We recently visited Guernsey for the first time, staying nine nights, at the OGH Hotel.

Firstly, all the staff were fantastic. Everyone was cheerful, professional with a high level of customer service. We did find, on the odd occasion, in the bar area, that they were overstretched which led to a long wait to order a drink or food, but we could see that they were working flat out. The valet parking is a nice touch and our room was cleaned and tidied thoroughly every day. On returning to the hotel each time we had been out, we were always greeted warmly.

Our king room had a very comfortable super king bed, was a good size overall and was well equipped. We were at the back of the hotel overlooking the kitchen area which, although slightly disappointing, was understandable as we hadn’t booked ‘a view’. There was a background hum from outside fans, but we didn’t really notice this after the first day or so.

What we did feel, however, was that the room, being in this position in the hotel, should have been decorated in brighter colours or light, neutral tones, as those king rooms shown on the website are. Ours was all dark browns and dark beiges, with heavy brown curtains, making it feel unwelcoming and without a lot of natural light due to its position and net curtain over the bottom half of the window. It just didn’t make us feel 5 star and ‘uplifted’ each time we entered it, which was a shame.

Breakfast in the Brasserie, which was light and airy, was excellent, with a wide choice, particularly of cooked options. We also ate several times in the bar area, the Olive Grove and the Brasserie, in the evening, and the food was very good.

The pool area is sheltered with comfortable sun loungers, although these did get full, on occasion, as our weather was hot and sunny.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the hotel clearly has a large, returning customer base, but it didn’t quite feel 5 star for us, mainly due to our room.

Moving forward, I think thought needs to be given to how the hotel maintains the ‘old world, traditional charm and decor’ that many of the returning guests obviously love, balanced with making it feel fresher, lighter, brighter and updated in some areas.

We returned to OGH for our 40 th wedding anniversary having spent our honeymoon in Guernsey.
We enjoyed 5 super relaxing days at this special hotel where we were warmly welcomed with some fizz and a dear little anniversary cake plate. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff from start to finish .
All staff work hard to allow you to feel pampered and valued and importantly to feel relaxed .
Our breakfasts and dinners were all absolutely delicious and we enjoyed our room with a view of the pool and out to the island of Herm .
Special thanks go to Tanusha and Pamela in the breakfast area and Zana in the Governor’s restaurant.
We felt this hotel has kept up its charm and character and continues to retain its 5 star qualities . Our room was kept spotlessly clean and the monogrammed bedding was superb!
We hope to be back for future celebrations ..
OGH has a special place in our hearts . Thank you to everyone.

This was our second holiday at the OGH to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Indeed, we noticed that there were a lot of Returners like us. The location is perfect for the town and its attractions, the bus station, and the ferry port that services all the Channel Islands. Upon arriving at the hotel, one is immediately greeted and looked after, and this attentiveness continued for the whole of our stay. All the staff were friendly, welcoming, and genuine, and provided exceptional service. Everyone remembered our names and the attention to detail was incredible. The atmosphere was one of joining a big family of staff and guests, where everything was possible. We felt like real VIPs throughout our stay. Our room was spacious, serviced daily, clean and tidy, and we enjoyed balcony seats with sea views of Herm and Sark, and the price was extremely competitive. The hotel has a beautiful warm outside pool and spacious area with sunbeds, chairs and tables, and pool facilities. It has made good use of the space available and there is a lovely olive terrace, garden and outside bar area. There is also an extensive spa and gym, which residents can use. The hotel is beautifully decorated and faithful to its heritage with lots of antiques, artwork, and moments of history shared throughout its lounges, public areas and guest rooms. As expected, the food was of a very high standard and quality, and well presented. Anyone who has a special diet is catered for. Our wedding anniversary dinner in Le Brasserie was exquisite. Both bars were well stocked, with lots of choice, and there are plenty of different areas to sit. The hotel offers several excursions and we booked 2 of them. We enjoyed an amazing Sunset, Fizz and Chips at Cabo Bay, attended to by the hotel butler and head concierge. It was simply a special and divine experience which will stay with us forever, and the sunset was spectacular too! We also booked the Sark Experience where we had our own private horse and carriage with a local guide for the day and this enabled us to visit most places on the island. We also had a huge Afternoon Tea at OGH which took us all afternoon to devour. Delicious! This hotel definitely lives up to its 5-star status. We will be back soon!

First thing to say is the staff are, almost without exception, terrific. My 3 rating is about the state of what claims to be a 5 star hotel. This is an old-fashioned hotel that is showing its age. We stayed in a seaview room with balcony. Seaview was there, but also view of a large flat roof. The room itself we found noisy - banging doors, one night a dog barking in the next door room. Around the hotel some carpets look worn; looking around the main restaurant, sills were dirty, the underside of chairs covered in dust. For a 5 star hotel today they may qualify on facilities but not on attention to detail and the right level of facilities cleaning and maintenance.

This is the only 5 star rated hotel on Guernsey. It is well deserved, as the location is great (in the
middle of town), the views over the harbour are amazing, the rooms are very comfortable, the food is exceptional but above all, the staff are superb! Nothing is too much trouble for them! Always smiling and very helpful!

We love this hotel. Although we had pre-
booked to stay in another hotel in St Peter Port, this was our go to place every evening. The Staff greeted us like old friends , especially Ryan the barman and the Piano player . The ambience was warm and friendly. Next time we come to Guernsey we will definitely book to stay here. Thank you all at Old Govt House hotel for helping to make our visit to the beautiful island of Guernsey so memorable

Lovely old hotel , packed with history and in a great location.
Food on the first night was really good but a little pricey , breakfast was also good on the first morning , however breakfast on the second morning was very much not up to standard , when the waitress removed my half eaten plate she asked if it was good , I replied just OK , and she smiled and removed my plate , was she listening , I don't think so . apart from that the staff were really professional , almost faultless . Room was ok , but very small but everything we needed

From start to finish of your stay you will be treated the most delightful welcome and excellent service levels

If you are travelling with a car the valet service will park it for you in their hotel car park

Your car is available to you through out the day on request from reception by the valet service. No charge is applied for this service.

Rooms are tastefully decorated in the style that you would expect from a five star establishment

The hotel is situated on a hillside from which you can view excellent views over St Peter Port

The hotel has various restaurants and bars to choose from. the Brasserie offers daily meal service from breakfast until including a dinner service in the evening. The hotel also has an Indian restaurant which has a usual six tables in a small cosy room. Booking a table is advised as the food is prepared and served to a highly desirable taste sensation.

To sum up if you are looking for something special and exceptional service look no further.

A special mention from myself and I go out to an excellent member of the restaurant team. Pamela is an asset to this hotel. She has a great talent of delivering a great customer service. She was a delight to speak with and deserves a mention.

We had a superb stay at the Old Government Hotel and a special THANK YOU to Kris for all your help and organisation before we'd even arrived!
The service we received from every member of staff throughout our stay was the best we’ve ever experienced. They couldn't do enough for you and were so friendly and kind.

Breakfast was incredible, such a fantastic array of hot and cold food, either cooked to order or buffet style continental breakfast.

Our room - on the second floor - was massive and so quiet. The bed was also huge, and SO comfy! We slept really well and nice to have a 'pillow menu'!
And such a selection of teas, coffees and hot chocolate in the room. They have UHT milk as standard, but you can call room service to have fresh milk.

Of course, we just HAD to test out the (heated) swimming pool. It was just perfect. We would have liked to have tried the whirlpools, but they were closed for cleaning.
The hotel is in a central location, it takes about 3 minutes to walk into the High Street (downhill)! A bit more legwork required to get back to the hotel, quite a few steep roads to get back!

I spotted a brilliant Travelzoo offer at this fabulous hotel, this is somewhere I had wanted to visit for SO long. As part of the deal, we enjoyed the two delicious meals in the hotel, one in the Brasserie restaurant, and the other in the Curry House.
Just a word of warning - We were a little surprised at the drinks bill plus service charge and also when we checked out, there was a £10.00 per night for the room on the invoice.
We weren't offered tap water when dining in the Curry House on our first night, but thought paying £6.00 for a bottle of still water was a little steep (the same bottles of water are handed out free in your room).
I do appreciate we could have refused the service charge but feel it may have seemed a bit rude. Especially as the service and our stay was so amazing.
I just wanted to mention it in case others are contemplating taking advantage of the Travelzoo deal, just be prepared to spend a little more. The additional costs probably added an additional £65.00-£75.00 on the overall holiday.

However, we had a fantastic stay and we would love to visit again.

This hotel is very good and the service from the staff is second to none. The food was amazing apert from the hung curd I had to try it but I would pick something else. The room was great clean spacious and we had everything we needed. On one day they did forget to clean the room and replace the coffee and biscuits but it was resolved when we went to reception. Go early for breakfast on one day it was very buisy and we used an overflow area, these table are too small and too low you can't get your legs under the table so to eat is very difficult. The louge area is great for a paper read after breakfast on some people used this for creamed teas.

Beautiful hotel with old world charm. Some excellent members of staff but on occasions we had to wait a long time for service. Two nights running we had 45 minute wait for drinks before dinner. It may be because the start of the season so new staff, but with £10 per day extra tip per room plus service charge for food and drinks it did fall short on several occasions including forgetting towels in the room, replacing water with already opened bottles and getting a couple of orders wrong on food. Nothing that couldn't be easily resolved but with the additional service charges it felt like they set themselves up for exemplary service which sometimes fell short.
Central location with lovely views though be warned it's up one of the many steep hills so those struggling with mobility might find access hard at times.

I recently had the absolute pleasure of spending my Easter holiday at the Old Government House Hotel in Guernsey, and honestly, where do I even begin?

From the moment you arrive, you are wrapped in the warmest welcome imaginable. The hotel exudes a timeless opulence and splendour that instantly transports you to a more elegant era—yet everything feels fresh, vibrant, and full of life.

As the island’s only five-star hotel, it has achieved this status for a very good reason. Every detail reflects quality, care, and a genuine commitment to excellence. If you are accustomed to five-star hotels, your expectations will not only be met but exceeded. And if you’ve never experienced a five-star stay before, this is the perfect place to begin—you will be truly blown away by just how welcoming and special it feels.

The staff are simply sensational. Every interaction feels genuine, thoughtful, and delivered with care. There’s a real sense of pride and team spirit running throughout the hotel, clearly inspired by the very inspirational leadership. It’s rare to see such consistency in service, and it makes all the difference. Many of the team members bring an added warmth and richness to the experience, contributing to a wonderfully welcoming and distinctive atmosphere.

The dining experiences are, quite simply, exceptional. Afternoon tea was an absolute highlight—elegant, indulgent, and beautifully presented. Each meal we enjoyed was crafted with love and attention to detail, easily among the finest food you’re likely to taste.

A special mention must go to the sensational curry restaurant. The flavours were extraordinary, with dishes created from specially selected spices that delivered something truly unique. If you’ve never tried an African-inspired curry before, now is the time—this was a culinary experience to remember. The décor adds to the magic, with a striking and immersive theme that brings a real sense of theatre and adventure to the evening.

What really stands out is the atmosphere. Whether you’re a local islander looking for the perfect staycation or travelling from further afield, this hotel offers something incredibly special. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s an experience that lifts your spirits and leaves you feeling genuinely better about the world.

After staying at the Old Government House Hotel, I can wholeheartedly say: it really is that good. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The Old Government House & Spa is a five-star palace of indulgence disguised as a hotel. Walking in feels like you’ve accidentally wandered onto a royal movie set, complete with chandeliers that could signal passing ships if they wanted to.
The spa is next-level relaxing—so relaxing that I briefly considered canceling all my future plans just to live there permanently. Treatments are divine, and the staff have the magical ability to make you feel like a VIP even if your last “luxury” was a slightly fancy takeaway.
Rooms are gorgeous, with beds so comfy they should come with a warning: may cause extended napping and existential questioning of normal life. Dining is equally spectacular; every bite tastes like it’s been blessed by a chef with a PhD in Deliciousness.
Overall, The Old Government House & Spa earns five stars and a standing ovation. Come for the luxury, stay for the bliss, leave only when your muscles and soul approve.

A recent four night stay. Hotel was lovely. Staff were exceptionally good; both helpful and informative. In particular dining room & reception staff were to be commended. Despite an upgrade our room was particularly small. We would visit again. Thank you.

An amazing experience at the Old Government Hotel. It certainly lived up to its reputation. We were surprised to be upgraded to a sea view Queen room and the service from every member of staff was the best we’ve ever experienced. Breakfast was exceptional and by far the best we have experienced. Valet service for the car was pure luxury.
Huge thanks to all the team.
I would just comment that we are probably on a tighter budget than most and jumped at a Travelzoo offer at this fabulous hotel. Making sure we stuck to budget, we enjoyed the two wonderful meals within the deal but was a little shocked at the drinks bill plus service charge and also the checking out system of adding £10 per night for the room. Table water wasn’t offered and we are not used to paying £6 for a bottle of still water. I appreciate we could have refused the service charge but it would have seemed very rude to do so, after the wonderful service and experience we had. I only mention it in case others are in a similar position and take advantage of the travelzoo deal. The additional costs probably added an additional £60-£70 on the overall holiday. However, taking this into account, we will never forget the wonderful time we had and only raise this in case others need to take the additional expense into their costings for the travel zoo deal.
