This hotel is very good and the service from the staff is second to none. The food was amazing apert from the hung curd I had to try it but I would pick something else. The room was great clean spacious and we had everything we needed. On one day they did forget to clean the room and replace the coffee and biscuits but it was resolved when we went to reception. Go early for breakfast on one day it was very buisy and we used an overflow area, these table are too small and too low you can't get your legs under the table so to eat is very difficult. The louge area is great for a paper read after breakfast on some people used this for creamed teas.

Beautiful hotel with old world charm. Some excellent members of staff but on occasions we had to wait a long time for service. Two nights running we had 45 minute wait for drinks before dinner. It may be because the start of the season so new staff, but with £10 per day extra tip per room plus service charge for food and drinks it did fall short on several occasions including forgetting towels in the room, replacing water with already opened bottles and getting a couple of orders wrong on food. Nothing that couldn't be easily resolved but with the additional service charges it felt like they set themselves up for exemplary service which sometimes fell short.
Central location with lovely views though be warned it's up one of the many steep hills so those struggling with mobility might find access hard at times.

I recently had the absolute pleasure of spending my Easter holiday at the Old Government House Hotel in Guernsey, and honestly, where do I even begin?

From the moment you arrive, you are wrapped in the warmest welcome imaginable. The hotel exudes a timeless opulence and splendour that instantly transports you to a more elegant era—yet everything feels fresh, vibrant, and full of life.

As the island’s only five-star hotel, it has achieved this status for a very good reason. Every detail reflects quality, care, and a genuine commitment to excellence. If you are accustomed to five-star hotels, your expectations will not only be met but exceeded. And if you’ve never experienced a five-star stay before, this is the perfect place to begin—you will be truly blown away by just how welcoming and special it feels.

The staff are simply sensational. Every interaction feels genuine, thoughtful, and delivered with care. There’s a real sense of pride and team spirit running throughout the hotel, clearly inspired by the very inspirational leadership. It’s rare to see such consistency in service, and it makes all the difference. Many of the team members bring an added warmth and richness to the experience, contributing to a wonderfully welcoming and distinctive atmosphere.

The dining experiences are, quite simply, exceptional. Afternoon tea was an absolute highlight—elegant, indulgent, and beautifully presented. Each meal we enjoyed was crafted with love and attention to detail, easily among the finest food you’re likely to taste.

A special mention must go to the sensational curry restaurant. The flavours were extraordinary, with dishes created from specially selected spices that delivered something truly unique. If you’ve never tried an African-inspired curry before, now is the time—this was a culinary experience to remember. The décor adds to the magic, with a striking and immersive theme that brings a real sense of theatre and adventure to the evening.

What really stands out is the atmosphere. Whether you’re a local islander looking for the perfect staycation or travelling from further afield, this hotel offers something incredibly special. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s an experience that lifts your spirits and leaves you feeling genuinely better about the world.

After staying at the Old Government House Hotel, I can wholeheartedly say: it really is that good. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The Old Government House & Spa is a five-star palace of indulgence disguised as a hotel. Walking in feels like you’ve accidentally wandered onto a royal movie set, complete with chandeliers that could signal passing ships if they wanted to.
The spa is next-level relaxing—so relaxing that I briefly considered canceling all my future plans just to live there permanently. Treatments are divine, and the staff have the magical ability to make you feel like a VIP even if your last “luxury” was a slightly fancy takeaway.
Rooms are gorgeous, with beds so comfy they should come with a warning: may cause extended napping and existential questioning of normal life. Dining is equally spectacular; every bite tastes like it’s been blessed by a chef with a PhD in Deliciousness.
Overall, The Old Government House & Spa earns five stars and a standing ovation. Come for the luxury, stay for the bliss, leave only when your muscles and soul approve.

A recent four night stay. Hotel was lovely. Staff were exceptionally good; both helpful and informative. In particular dining room & reception staff were to be commended. Despite an upgrade our room was particularly small. We would visit again. Thank you.

An amazing experience at the Old Government Hotel. It certainly lived up to its reputation. We were surprised to be upgraded to a sea view Queen room and the service from every member of staff was the best we’ve ever experienced. Breakfast was exceptional and by far the best we have experienced. Valet service for the car was pure luxury.
Huge thanks to all the team.
I would just comment that we are probably on a tighter budget than most and jumped at a Travelzoo offer at this fabulous hotel. Making sure we stuck to budget, we enjoyed the two wonderful meals within the deal but was a little shocked at the drinks bill plus service charge and also the checking out system of adding £10 per night for the room. Table water wasn’t offered and we are not used to paying £6 for a bottle of still water. I appreciate we could have refused the service charge but it would have seemed very rude to do so, after the wonderful service and experience we had. I only mention it in case others are in a similar position and take advantage of the travelzoo deal. The additional costs probably added an additional £60-£70 on the overall holiday. However, taking this into account, we will never forget the wonderful time we had and only raise this in case others need to take the additional expense into their costings for the travel zoo deal.

I can't praise the OGH highly enough. We found the the hotel to be perfect in every way and it far exceeded our expectations. The room was beautifully furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean and the special cakes/decorated plates that were made for my husband's birthday and retirement celebrations were a lovely surprise for him. The food was delicious, especially the extensive breakfast. We also enjoyed using the beautiful spa. But what made our stay extra special was the outstanding service we received from every single member of staff. They were extremely polite and friendly and we were surprised they even recognised us and addressed us by name when they saw us. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them and they made us feel like royalty for a few days :) Particular thanks go to Andrew, The General Manager, who came down to welcome us and made sure our requests were carried out. They have a very good team working there with highly qualified skills and they are a credit to the hotel. They made my husband's special occasion one we will never forget and we hope to return one day.

This hotel boasts it is the only 5 star hotel in Guernsey. The food is inded good and the staff (most of whom seem to be South African) are helpful and friendly. The room we had (an upgrade to get a king size bed) was pathetically small and we struggled to find space to get our two suitcases open. Heaven alone knows what the 'standard' room size is. Great location near the centre of town and valet parking (but allow 15 minutes for them to retrieve your car).

This is a lovely hotel.
We were greeted with a glass of prosecco and advised we had been upgraded to a King room.
The food was excellent we ate in The Brasserie and the Curry room both meals were first class.
The breakfast had an unbelievable choice and everything was delicious.
The staff throughout were courteous and helpful
I would definately recommend this hotel and hope to return.

Wow what a stay from the moment we entered the hotel until the moment we left there has not been one person who did not make us feel welcome appreciated and valued your staff truly are a credit to you and your business

I haven’t unfortunately managed to remember everyone we came into contact with so I will just add the specific names of Sindi & kris on reception
Josh & Roberto
Pamela and so many others in the restaurants and bars

I honestly wish I had written everybody’s name down because our heartfelt thanks go out to them all for making our stay so very memorable

I hope you pass these thoughts onto your staff who as I’ve stated truly are a credit to you

The OGH is an exceptional hotel experience with superb staff that pay attention to details! Prior to arrival I completed a preference survey & staff accommodated everything beyond expectations! Kris knew us the moment we checked in & Roberto gave us pro travel tips (we will be reaching out)! Jeffery is a master bartender & made us feel at home. Zama took care of us during on of the best Indian meals ever! Our room was beautifully appointed with a spectacular view of the water & oh my the bathroom! A true luxury experience. Before we left Kris gave us a copy of our favorite movie- The Gurnsey Potato Peel Soc!

Big fan of Sunday lunch here. Never as busy as it deserves to be, perhaps only because there’s a bit of a shortage of parking nearby. Anyway, the food is great and the staff are lovely. It’s all very civilised. Easy 5* from me.

Perfect location. It was a very quiet Wednesday lunchtime in February so difficult to comment on the atmosphere. Good value for a 5 star hotel. Service was friendly and staff were very helpful. We even had a tour of the whiskey room! A very enjoyable experience.

Our stay at the OGH was exceptional. We were greeted by Kris, by our names and shown to our room and were made to feel very welcome. The first day we were there we toured around Guernsey and enjoyed our time walking. We had a great time at cocktail hour and our dinner at the hotel. However, our 2nd day got complicated when my husband had an accident while we were on a tour. This is when the well trained and exceptional staff at OGH showed us how exceptional they really were. While I went to the ER with my husband, the staff worked with our friends to get us new flights off the island and home (USA). We got served coffee and then since our new flights were so early in the morning they prepared us breakfast boxes to take along the next morning, along with hot coffee and cappuccinno's. You always know how good a team is when there is an issue to solve, and this team rose to the occasion. We want to thank Kris and his front desk team and Pamela and Byron in the restaurant for looking after us. This is an exceptional team and hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Guernsey.

Wonderful location and hotel. The staff are fantastic and provide the right level of service where required. The rooms are a bit small, and traditionally decorated, but this is in keeping with the overall design.
Food service is fantastic across the various restaurants. It is expensive, though, and there is a question whether it's right for you.
Highly recommended and will be returning

Family members and I had a great stay at this hotel. Rooms and decor are brilliant, as expected, I suppose. The bed was extremely comfortable.
But it was the staff that make this hotel special - the receptionists are knowledgable and friendly. The restaurant personnel are extremely attentive. The young chap/bellboy at reception couldn’t be more helpful if he tried!
The location is great.
We had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel and would not hesitate to go back.
