This hotel is fantastic, and this is due to the well trained friendly staff. No request is to small and nothing is overlooked. The in-hotel restaurants are of the highest quality, especially the Indian, I don't think I have ever had better. Breakfast is a treat, a good selection of freshly prepared fare. The rooms are sumptuous and spotlessly clean, with high quality useful sized toiletries in the bathroom. A lovely touch is the 'turn down' and gift every evening. My mother is disabled and she found this hotel to be very accessible for an old building, and again, the staff were very helpful. There are a variety of public rooms and bars, very nicely furnished with comfortable seating, it has a country house (slightly colonial as well) feel about it. Don't miss out on a champagne cream tea. I will be highly recommending this hotel to my friends and family, not only will I be back, but I will also seek out other red carnation hotels to try. We enjoyed the gin experience on the first evening, a guided tour around 3 gins, accompanied by a delicious curry, the pairing worked well and I would recommend trying this experience for yourselves. The location of this hotel is excellent, quite central to St Peter Port, with valet parking. This hotel delivers a WOW factor.

An exceptionally well-appointed hotel in the centre of St Peter Port, within comfortable walking distance of all the amenities offered by the town.

The facilities and service are very high quality. The room we occupied was very comfortable, light and airy and had a panoramic view of St Peter Port harbour.

The catering is excellent: afternoon tea in the garden is generous and well presented; a wide choice of dishes, all well prepared and presented, is available for evening dinner, and breakfast is very satisfying.

Stellar performance by all the staff who are very helpful and very knowledgeable.

The OGH (as this hotel has become known) is truly worthy of its five star rating - note this is the only hotel in Guernsey to have been awarded this accolade.

Just returned from another very successful trip to OGH. We have been coming here since 1992. Not every year, but there has never been an instance where we were disappointed. That's itself says a great deal about the staff at OGH.

It could probably do with some updating at some point, but we would rather a hotel be little tired and have a great welcome and service.

From the moment you walk into reception, most times Harry the Guest Manager, being there to give you a warm welcome, to the receptionists who are cheerful and helpful.

The pool is like being in a warm bath, so even on cooler days it's great to be in there. We could not think of anything we did not enjoy there.

A special mention to Ken who manages the restaurants perfectly. He is so good at customer service. These things really matter, and sadly there are many hotels that do not have good management to train staff correctly. We so love Guernsey, and can't wait to return. Ŵe can even take our two dogs. They would not be banished to the rooms but can enjoy the hotel. Of course they would behave as well as children would!

On our return, we received a postcard from OGH, welcoming us back. Yes we will be back.

I and my colleague visited Guernsey again recently, in my case 36th years and my colleague 28 years of visiting Guernsey and stayed at the O.G.H as usual. As normal we made our hotel arrangements initially through General Manage,r Andrew Chantrell and asked for and received the rooms we had requested at a reduced cost - no doubt as we are 'old stagers'. From then the arrangements we made were perfectly adhered to and it was great to see some of the staff again who have been at the O.G.H. for many years including Harry Seepaul, Client Services Director and Ken, Restaurant Manager, to name a few. This speaks volumes in itself because the hotel & restaurant business has a well known regular turn over of staff, so obviously they must be contented in their lot. The service was as usual friendly, efficient and caring without being over fussy, from the kind and courteous lady Receptionists and beyond. We were well looked after and in a personal kind of way. God willing we will return next year at least once.

This was a return visit to the OGH and we'll definitely be back again.

The service is truly 5 star (Harry Seepaul is fantastic - every hotel should have one!). The weather may have been awful, but that's when you appreciate a good hotel with great food.

Returned again this year after such an enjoyable visit last year. The OGH is a fabulous hotel with the highest of standards throughout and you could not wish for more luxury.
It was rather touching to be recognized by some of the staff including the colourful in-house pianist!

It is great credit to Mrs B Tollman for what she has achieved with the ongoing support of her managers and staff.

This is the only 5-star hotel in Guernsey. The ethos is one of customer care with attention to detail apparent from the moment you walk in. The room we had was quite small and on the top floor but was perfectly adequate for a night's stay; the views were superb over St. Peter Port and towards the other Channel Islands. We chose not to eat in the restaurant but had a light snack in one of the bars; the food there was excellent and there was plenty of it. Whilst there, we got talking to one of the waiters who was a very polite and well presented young man. The bar also had a professional pianist/vocalist playing who kept guests entertained all evening. What you're paying for at the OGH is quality of service - it's not Guernsey's biggest or cheapest hotel, there's only an outside pool and the parking is a bit cramped but this is all made up for by the unhurried, friendly nature of the staff and their 'nothing's-too-much-trouble' attitude. We will definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

Firstly the wow factor. As part of our Silver Wedding celebrations we treated ourselves to a little bit of luxury. The staff were very courteous and attentive, anticipating every whim. The room was a little small but OK for our requirements. Nicely appointed & yes our door key didn't work if you kept it next to your phone, just keep it somewhere else. Turn down service was lovely with home made biscuits on you return after dinner. Staff were friendly and wanting to please.

The room had air-conditioning but on the 1st night of our stay the hotel had wedding guests staying and so the air-conditioning was overloaded. We were incredibly hot and my husband in particular got virtually no sleep. The management did sort this problem out for subsequent nights.

The 'help yourself' breakfast had some excellent choices: cereals, gently poached fruits in syrups, greek yoghurt, fresh soft fruits, honey, and they didn't mind if you went back for seconds. However the cooked breakfast lacked quality. If you'd paid separately for it it was £25, but for 4 items!! Bacon & black pudding was good, the egg was OK (but apart from burning it how can that be done badly) but the sausage was awful. Cooked fine but of sub-standard quality, you know they type with cheap fillers and unmentionable origins. Sorry but I am used to our local butcher's 100% pork sausages at home and from a 5 star establishment I expected the same quality.

Dinner was as expected for 5 star until the presentation of the main menu. Very little choice for someone who hates fish. 4 choices (2 being very similar) if you don't count the 2 veggie options. No poultry, no game. Come on!! My husband and I both chose the 'hand chopped 8oz sirloin' We were asked how we like it cook, rare or medium rare. When the main arrived both thought we had been given the wrong plates. It was presented like a burger !! with the cheese topping!! The waitress pointed out that it was hand chopped but excuse me for mis-understanding, the enjoyment in a sirloin steak is in the texture of a piece of meat, not it being cut into 3mm size pieces. When it said hand chopped I assumed it meant bite sized pieces. And why did they give us steak knives? This bad experience puts a dampener on the special anniversary.
The dessert was very sublime but was served with a common or garden digestive biscuit, would have been much better without or perhaps with a homemade shortbread biscuit.

The wine was absolutely divine, I know my wines and knew it would be exceptional but I didn't appreciate the waitress pointing out the high price in a tone that suggested I may like to choose again because it may not be able to afford it. That aside, I am still enjoying the wine and will do for some time to come.

Would I visit again. Yes, but if they serve me with a burger when I order steak again I will send it back.

Nice place, beautifully finished, if you like the club/country style. Helpful staff, beautiful lobby and bar area, nice rooms, comfy bed, and lovely restaurant. It's not too stuffy, to boot. My room had a view of the sea (just) and was light and airy, so presumably there are other such rooms at the front of the hotel. Recommended.

Great hotel in a lovely location . We were there with a guide dog in training and they couldn't have been more helpful .
Lots of different places to eat, drink or just relax. A hotel full of little corners of ambience.
The pool is lovely too ; a great temperature.
We had breakfast out on the terrace one morning which is delightful;unfortunately we weren't so lucky with the weather so only managed one breakfast Al fresco.
We tried all the restaurants attached to the hotel and can heartily recommend all of them .All quite different but equally delicious.
We are looking forward to returning.

The quality of service is amazing. Without exception every member of the hotel staff we met were friendly, courteous and above all eager to please. If you transplanted the staff to any other average hotel it would transform the experience to an enjoyable one.

The OGH is in a great location and just a two minute walk to the main shopping street.

Breakfast was good and the one meal we took in the Brasserie was excellent. All extras like teas, coffees and alcoholic drinks were surprisingly reasonable; £2.50 for a pot of tea.

It's a quirky building with multiple extensions over time which makes it more interesting than a modern box hotel. The furnishings are traditionally elegant and comfortable. Other reviews have mentioned that the hotel is a bit worn in places. We had one of the suites and the walls are covered in fabric which had dark patches caused by the air conditioning vents. It's hard not to notice this when you first walk in but the other qualities of the hotel and service soon make this superficial and irrelevant.

We found the bed a bit firm but housekeeping added a mattress topper and it was comfy thereafter.

It's a nice hotel in a town with limited accommodation options. That may be why it is expensive. The staff are excellent though and work hard to ensure top quality service. Reception, porter and concierge were top drawer. They offer free valet parking & good advice about places to eat in town.
Hotel rooms are fine but they are small (& not cheap).
Also they have a nice bar & good views

My wife and I stayed for a couple of nights in mid-summer. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, to the point that they had gone out and purchased a box of Maltesers at my request so they were on the bed when we arrived.

We stayed here for four days. Our room was just perfect with a beautiful view over St. Peter Port Harbour. We found it difficult to draw ourselves away from watching the ever changing actvities going on in the harbour. The room had every comfort and amenity that one would expect from a high end hotel. The staff were such friendly and helpful people many of whom were clearly passionate about providing the best service that they could for us, for example going out of their way to help us find local walks many of which they had tried themselves. The two resteraunts in the hotel were again exceptional, top class cuisine served by organised and very efficient staff. This hotel is well worth a visit.

The friendliness and commitment to providing good service from all the staff we came into contact with couldn't be faulted. The breakfasts and meals in The Brasserie restaurants were also first class. On this occasion we did not eat in the The Curry Room but it did look splendid and we would certainly eat there on another visit. The standard of housekeeping was also perfect and the room and bathroom was kept spotless. As this hotel is located in an old building the rooms tend to be very individual and it is worth ascertaining what you are actually booking. Our room was a King sea view (107) but was accessed along corridors and stairways away from lift access so may not be suitable for all. The decor also was a little underwhelming and could do with refurbishment for a 5* hotel. The thick net type curtains at the windows made the sea view impossible to see without somehow tying them back and I really think this is something the hotel should look at. But all in all a lovely stay and we would return.

We had a very relaxing stay at OGH Guernsey. The staff were very attentive, polite and helpful without being overbearing or intrusive. The food was excellent and service faultless. It was particularly impressive that we were welcomed by name wherever we went in the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were very willing to help. Truly special hotel on a pearl of an island. We will definitely return.

Thanks so much to the Old Government House hotel. Service was so wonderful: I was running the Guernsey Marathon and the room was fit for a Queen! When I When On arrival I got a personal call in my room from the Manager to ask if I had any special requests for the room or breakfast very polite and considerate. Another really lovely touch was a card from the hotel wishing me "Good Luck" in the marathon which I still have here at home ! Very sweet.

I could not believe it when I switched on the TV and it had my name personalised on the screen!! it had lots of movies available including latest releases and the sound and picture were like being at a movie in a big cinema.

The views form the Dining Room were exquisite and each room is full of beautiful regency style furniture. Truly a Royal experience ! There were beautiful quaint little dogs on the cushion covers too and lots of old fashioned sweets very gorgeous and newspapers to help yourself to in the breakfast room.

The breakfast room had everything on offer one could possibly imagine or desire a huge range from masses of cereals to pancakes and different eggs full English and anything one could wish for! There were piles of fresh fruit like blackberries and blueberries which I ate with cream at breakfast so healthy and yummy and what I most wanted.
Beautiful views of the coast from the bedrooms. Very central to St. Peter Port amenities but also a great view from the hill top.

I loved the artwork in the bedrooms, mine were Surrealist Dali style twinkly horses just perfect!!

The bubble bath and special gorgeous spa salts and I soaked in that for a long time.

What a wonderful hotel. Thankyou ! Staff always on hand and keen to help and show you to your room! Room service come round to arrange the room and bring papers in the evening. I felt like I was in an Agatha Christie novel or part of the Royal Family. This and one other hotel are my all time favourites.

Excellent service, wonderful food and overall an excellent break. If you have to find fault, the room was a little disappointing. You have to accept that it is not a " standard box" hotel and most of the rooms are individual. Staff are very attentive without being overpowering and condescending.

We came to Guernsey for a short 3 day break. We booked this hotel based on the reviews but did not expect it to necessarily be one of the main parts of the holiday. However, this hotel was so incredible that we very much enjoyed spending time there and taking in its beautiful surroundings. We tend to drop our bags and spend most of our holidays out and about exploring. On this occasion, we did not follow our pattern. Out of the three days we were in Guernsey we spent one whole day in the hotel - the morning and afternoon were spent by the pool and the evening in the garden and restaurant. The hotel, the building, the rooms, the restaurant, the bars, the garden, the pool are all incredible and drenched in history and class. I cannot end this review without saying an incredible thank you to all the staff. They made us feel very special and our visit was all the more incredible for it. We would highly recommend this hotel to everyone we know and we would only stay there on our return trip to Guernsey.

We stayed in a superior room with a sea view which was very luxurious with fab finishing touches. The breakfast was a very high standard and the service from the welcome at the reception to the restaurant and also from housekeeping was exceptional. It was my husbands birthday during our stay...we didn't tell anyone but when we returned to our room there was a small birthday cake waiting for him (the cards gave it away!!).
