Great weekend made special by the facilities and Andi the most efficient and pleasant House Manager I have come across.
Magnificent views from the room made better by wakening to with sunrise over Herm & Sark. The Whatever/Whenever button on the phone sums it up...they deliver on this.

To all the staff at the Old Government House.
In the first instance, I would like to offer my apologies for not writing this review upon my return from a most relaxing short vacation at the Old Government House in Guernsey. I am certain, we all are aware of the pressures of work and how this dictates time and this is no different. It goes without stating the obvious that our stay at the Old Government House was one of total relaxation and enjoyment.

On arriving at the Old Government House we were met by Andi, the front of house manager and several staff who were there to greet us. Immediately, as the doors were open from a taxi, staff were there to assist with our luggage after a rather bumpy flight to Guernsey. The luggage was then transported as if magically to our room. Andi, welcomed us to the hotel and following the normal completion of all the forms we were shown to our room by a very pleasant and kind gentleman by the name of Vincent. The room was exceptional with a view over St Peter Port harbour that was truly inspirational. Andi, the front of house manager, was very perceptive and realised that this occasion, of my birthday, was quite special and therefore the room was equally distinctive.

The room, which had a balcony enabled a panoramic view over the harbour which in the evening incorporated the amazing lights on the Castle Cornet, making the feeling of being somewhere really exclusive, even better. As this was a short break we, unfortunately, could only stay three nights, hence the reason for staying in St Peter Port as we would be near all the amenities that the capital had to offer. The situation of the Old Government House makes it absolutely perfect for this short break with the shops only a very short walk away as soon as you exit the hotel. The Old Government House, itself, is absolutely amazing, from the point you enter the main door all the staff are so welcoming, there is a general feel of great cohesion. All the staff in the Old Government House appeared to work so well together and the staff that we met were just exceptional, with a lead such as Andi, a perfect role model to follow.

I do not feel it is necessary to write anything about the room we stayed in except we were in awe of the space and view. The website for the Old Government House includes many pictures of the variety of rooms available, of which all are impeccable and to see them first hand is a delight. It must be said however, that this is the centre of St Peter Port and as such can be quite noisy. Our room on this occasion and at this time of year was amazingly quiet and helped with the relaxation that was required. It would go without writing that in a hotel such as this one you would expect the food to be impeccable. Both my wife and I found the food to be quite exquisite and certainly enough, quantity wise, to satisfy the heartiest of people. The carefully selected culinary cuisine is a credit to the chef and the staff who prepare this. The presentation of all the food was exceptional and something to be marvelled over. It was not only the presentation of the food, but it was also the way that this was served at the table. There was great care and sensitivity to ensure that the whole dining experience was something of a gastronomic delight, quite extraordinarily wonderful. This includes, the selection of food for breakfast, evening meals and room service, all of which both my wife and I were overwhelmed with by the quality and presentation.

On the first evening we had room service, again, impeccable. On the two evenings we ate in the hotel there was a pianist, Paul Tongs, who played some of the most amazing accompaniment to set the scene for a really relaxing evening of gourmet dishes and magical musical entertainment, this made our stay at the Old Government House even more special than what it was. Even the staff in the Spa, after I had talked with them, were able to work their magic on my wife’s hands, massaging these and painting the nails with care and precision. It cannot go without writing, this short break at the Old Government House was an incredibly memorable time made even more unsurpassed by the staff in the hotel. Gabrielle, Sharon and Sharon’s husband, whose name eludes me at this moment in time, my apologies, were just three of the people along with Vincent, who made our stay particularly welcoming. With Andi as a lead and the role model she is, it is not surprising that all the staff working in the Old Government House are as sensitive and caring as they are. It is as if everyone who is a guest in the hotel is welcomed and treated with individual care and expertise. Thank you for making our short break with you the exceptional time it was. Your time and attention to detail is unrivalled, thank you.

Had a wonderful overnight stay at this hotel. We were given a free upgrade on our room which was beautiful. Our three course meal was great too. We also made use of the spa facilities too. A great relaxing stay!

The OGH is a sister hotel to the Duke of Richmond. It's conveniently located in the centre of St Peter Port and everything is within walking distance. It has a very traditional feel to the decor a bit like being transported into a Miss Marple novel. The room was good and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast service could have been a little quicker which is why I have deducted a point off the rating. Worth staying.

40th Anniversaryweekend. From the moment we walked through the door our stay became magical.
Andi greeted us at reception and gave us keys to our superb, perfectly clean king size bedroom. She looked after us beautifully throughout our stay.
Later during the stay we met Garath the assistant manager who made us very welcome and ensured our stay had everything we could have hoped for.
We had room service with perfect sandwiches, we had afternoon tea also superb.
A great breakfast and on our anniversary a complementary glass of champagne .
We had dinner in the Brasserie which actually is a very nice restaurant and the meal was absolutely fantastic. My wife thought it one of the nicest she had ever ate.
Spa visit had all we needed.
We Then met the manager Mr Andrew Chantrell and told him how we felt about our stay and we were once again treated like VIP's. All round brilliant weekend.would highly, highly recommend and we would love to come during the summer to take advantage of the alfresco dining and pool. Not only the Best in Guernsey but I would suggest one of the best anywhere. Wrighty57

The room the food the staff, everything was just for the guest's enjoyment. I could not fault it in any way. It was a little expensive for 3 of us with dinner, bed and breakfast and one being a child but we definitely got value for money.

Very nice location and lovely place. Although decoration was not my style, it was very comfortable and very well maintained.

Extremely clean (they even disinfected the TV remote!) and they have lots of details to pamper you in the room, including great bathroom amenities.

Breakfast was very good and the restaurant in general was good.

I definitely recommend this hotel.

This location is a return for our dear friend, who celebrated a milestone birthday during our stay. From the moment we arrived, through every moment of our stay, service was exquisite.

The hotel accomodated us for large gatherings, a fabulous birthday dinner, a even more fabulous wine testing paring and whiskey tasking from the famous David (top notch!!)

The hotel property was gorgeously decorated for Christmas and with the outmost attention to detail. The room was beautiful with great bathroom amenities. Very lovely.

Great memorable stay!!

Breakfast was very good with a great range of food to choose from, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for any of the staff .
There is no doubt that the OGH is the best hotel in Guernsey and would recommend anyone to stay here, definitely 5*

A beautiful hotel with lovely rooms, great food and service. It's a shame I was there for only one night, however it's a place I'd definitely I'd like to go back to, however I'd try and arrange for better weather - it was December though.

We chose the OGH for our first ever Christmas away and were very pleased with choice.

We had a sea view king room with a balcony overlooking the rooftops and harbour. The balcony was enclosed, with an electric window which could be lowered to open it. With the very mild weather we were able to enjoy the open balcony for the great views.

The room was very comfortable, clean and well appointed with tea/coffee. The bathroom was small but adequate, although it was tricky to run a bath rather than a shower as you needed to reach a long way round the shower screen. Lovely toiletries.

The public areas were beautifully decorated for Christmas and the service from all staff we encountered was excellent. We arrived Christmas Eve and very much enjoyed the set menu dinner in the brasserie, which is quite small and intimate. Lunch on Christmas Day was served in the much larger function room next door. We were delighted to be given a table in the main window overlooking the sea view. The food was again good, but I was a bit disappointed that one of the two choices for a starter course had also been on the Christmas Eve dinner menu. Similarly the veloute served as an amuse bouche reappeared in another dish later in the meal. We also found the beef a little bland and unseasoned, but overall the meal was very enjoyable. Service was excellent - the staff remembered the wine we had enjoyed the previous evening. The meal was very leisurely and we were too full to visit the evening buffet included on the Christmas package!

Breakfast was excellent, particularly the fresh fruit selection.

The hotel offers valet parking, which is great as the front entrance is on a narrow street. It's a short walk to the shops and restaurants as well as the seafront. We hired a car to explore the island a little, but the hotel's Christmas package included a car to and from the airport if required. Another nice touch was a Christmas stocking hung on our door for Christmas morning with some small gifts and sweets.

We visited the small spa area which has a sauna, steam room and two jacuzzis - we had it to ourselves, which was lovely. We also booked a massage each and were very pleased with them.

Overall we very much enjoyed the atmosphere and quality of service at the OGH and we would definitely return.

Thank you so much to the head chef and his team for making our staff party so special. We learnt so much and had a great deal of fun. Excellent tuition and service. I really didn't have to organise much at all except make sure that we all turned up. We all left with a bag of secret spice mix and a curry recipe to take home. I tried mine today - Turkey curry. Although I'm afraid I loaded the leftovers onto a homemade pizza and smothered it in cheese! Oopsy but yum!

Stayed for a week and the food, ambience and staff were wonderful. Really well decorated and comfortable in both the guest suites and lounges. The Dining room looks over the port and it is lovely to have breakfast on the lawns.

Very old hotel building in very good decorative order. Rooms are very comfortable and staff are helpful. Great views out to sea as well. Very good location for the town and businesses so you typically won't need a taxi but note that if you cannot walk far or climb hills you may want to stay elsewhere as there is a reasonably steep hill to walk up to reach the hotel.

Arrived here for the staff party about 120 peoples. Staff were friendly and polite. Room was well decorated and plenty of room to move about not squashed. Food was good overall main meal was hot and the roast potatoes were crispy. Some of the starters looked small a beetroot salad had a slice of beetroot and a small piece of goats cheese teaspoon size. Dessert was good and mince pies were served warm. Very good bar service from the Lithuanian bartender who brought the wine from the bar to our table.

The OGH has been refurbished to a very high standard and in many ways gives the impression of being a very up market home, which in many ways it is.
The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
The rooms are very well appointed and spotless.
In the centre of St Peter Port an ideal location with fabulous views of the harbour.
An easy 5 minute walk to the high street and a variety of good restaurants. Le petit Bistro I thoroughly recommend. French cuisine, with French style and grace.
OGH, Well done and thank you.

We arrived at 10am and had the most amazing stay. Car parked, room upgrade, and truly spoiled, everyone felt special. The whole experience was most pleasurable and we look forward to our next visit.Being in the heart of St Peter Port it was the perfect setting for a walking weekend around the capital of Guernsey with spectacular views over the islands of Herm and Sark.

First time on Guerney and sadly it was only for two nights. The hotel was excellent, the staff, the food and our room could not be faulted. As a person who loves fruit to have eleven different types of fruit for breakfast was heaven. On the first night we ate in The Brasserie and the food was superb. The second night we ate at the sister hotel The Duke of Richmond and the food was also superb.

The staff couldn't do enough for us and made us very welcome. We will definitely be returning for another relaxing break.

We stayed here to celebrate a 50th Birthday, there was a good priced package for dinner, bed & breakfast. They made a birthday cake and were very attentive to our wishes. We had a room upgrade to a lovely King Room with fabulous views over town and harbour. Dinner in the Brasserie was good and the whole experience left us feeling well looked after.
