Didn't stay, attended a wedding reception. For a 5 star hotel it's a bit shabby. Staff great.

Stunning Hotel . We stayed in Room 119 which has a lovely sea view. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were lovely. Very comfortable throughout. Close to shops and the port. Perfect for a few nights away. Looking forward to our next stay all ready . .

Had a lovely stay again at this hotel approximately 48 years after the last one.
The atmosphere, rooms and staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. Alessandro the Restaurant Manager is real credit to the hotel, not only is he on top of the breakfast and restaurant service he helped my elderly father and I carry our luggage to reception when he saw us struggling.
We enjoyed the Festive Afternoon tea in the lounge on our first day, which was an excellent standard and well worth the money in fact we enjoyed it so much we were still sat there 4 hours later and the staff were still very attentive.
Sadly there was one little niggle that spoilt the experience which was the room allocation. My father and I had 2 separate rooms which were on separate floor. When we asked to change so we could be nearer to each other the reception staff were very accommodating and arranged for us to be next to each other. However what they didn’t explain was that the room was above the function room which was holding a Christmas party the first night and a wedding reception the second night of our stay. As much as I love party music to be able to clearly hear the songs and party goers word for word was a bit too much. This was brought to the attention of the reception staff the next day who advised that we should have been told that functions were happening when we booked with the tour operator. That really was irrelevant as although the room we changed to was more convenient, she could have advised of the function and perhaps given us the choice to stay put. Having said all that I did ask for ear plugs which they didn’t have but did offer cotton wool as an alternative but that didn’t work.
In summary if you want a decent sleep check where your room is located, bring earplugs or avoid the Christmas party season, as for everything else I couldn’t find a fault and hope to return in the future.

Just spent 4 nights at this superb hotel, fantastic atmosphere good location, rooms were amazing and spotlessly clean, food was excellent with plenty of choice, all the staff made you feel really welcome and nothing was to much trouble for them. Allesandro in the restaurant was very accommodating and professional at all times and it was nice chatting to Andrew at the front door most days but didn’t manage to say goodbye when we left ! Would not hesitate to return to this wonderful hotel.

We had afternoon tea this afternoon. The service was excellent as were the tea, sandwiches, scones & cakes. I especially want to thank the Chef for providing one of us with a Diabetic afternoon tea. I would not have expected anyone to be able to produce such an excellent low sugar afternoon menu. Excellent value, lovely setting and a great start to early Christmas celebrations. A very special thanks to the Chef.

The OGH is the best hotel in the Channel Islands. We stay two or three times a year. Last week we were in the Sark Suite; it was gorgeous.

We visited as two couples on 16 to 20 November 2023 on a Travelzoo deal. We were warmly greeted by reception staff and shown around the hotel before being shown to our rooms. The hotel itself is classic in style, reminiscent of days gone by, which may not suit those with a contemporary preference, but we really liked the character and plush decor. The rooms themselves (203/204) gave an overall impression of luxury although they are small. The bathroom was extremely compact but had everything you would need, but there is only sufficient space for one person at a time! The bed was very comfortable and we were rarely disturbed by any noise. The housekeeping service was very good and there was a turn-down service each evening which included some small treats - a nice touch.
We ate in both the Brasserie and South African curry restaurants and enjoyed the meals in each. We particularly liked the traditional and classic and intimate ambience in the curry restaurant, which was reminiscent of an old gentleman's club!
The breakfasts were very good and provided everything you could reasonably want and I am sure they would have done their best to provide anything that was not on the menu.
We really enjoyed the afternoon tea which was served on beautiful bone china crockery.
What made our stay so enjoyable was the exceptional service. All the staff, without exception, were courteous, polite and accommodating and took an interest in the guests. There was great attention to detail in respect of everything, for example, crisp white linen napkins and changing cups when asking for more tea/coffee.
Whilst all the staff were excellent we were particularly impressed with Tandayi in the restaurant. She was attentive without being overbearing, was interested in what we were doing and nothing was ever too much trouble. All of these things made our stay that much more enjoyable.
We also ate at the sister hotel, The Duke of Richmond, which was also very enjoyable with similarly excellent service from Bobby, the restaurant manager.

Checked into our room which was very brown, patterned and small. Looked in the bathroom( horrid blue tiling) to find that it had had a leak and the ceiling was very stained. Asked to move. We were shown4 more rooms, first had a fire exit going straight psst the window, 2nd had a humming sound from the kitchen extractor, was told it goes off at 10pm- not for us, 3rd had a very low ceiling so claustraphobic, 4th we took as it was all getting pretty much of the same, brown. The staff are absolutely lovely all trained to look after you. Gorind was charming and helpful and all staff are a credit to the red carnation group. However if you want brown patterned rooms that have seen better days for a high price then come here. If not, there is better on the island. Also whilst I was there, they had a roof leaking, due to heavy rain, onto the marble stairs leading to the toilets from the bar. Very dangerous and staff had to close this area off after I had brought it to their attention. Sadly I won't be returning to this hotel, as I want accommodation that is better than this. They are on the island as I have stayed in them. Guernsey is a beautiful place with fabulous restaurants and this hotel is supposed to be the best on the island. It isnt

We had a one to one cocktail masterclass at the OGH. Malcolm, our host, was fantastic, knowledgeable and fun. Definitely one to recommend and we look forward to enjoying another of the experiences they offer at the hotel. Thank you very much.

From the moment we first arrived, we were transported back to when hospitality at five star level was an art form.

All of the staff here are devoted to ensuring their guest's stay is both perfect and memorable.

The properties decor and ambience simply oozes luxury.

The decor throughout is simply extraordinary. Carpeting everywhere is deep and soft. Walls are not papered but covered in fabrics. Good taste and care is in evidence everywhere. There are magnificent oil paintings, excellent prints, interesting posters and amazing guilded mirrors.

Beds are perfect, bathrooms marble, the very finest monogrammed bedding, and thick and fluffy monogrammed towels.

Two fine restaurants, a spa, and an outside complete the package.

That and the location, five minutes walk from St Peter Port's central shopping area.

We wanted to go somewhere memorable for our honeymoon and definitely made the right choice! From the moment we walked in to the establishment we were made to feel special. Govind gave us a terrific tour of the premises and ensured we started our break with a glass of champagne.
All the hotel staff were friendly and went out their way to be helpful and to ensure our stay was a happy one.
Our room was comfortable, the breakfast was tremendous (we didn't need much lunch!), and we can attest that both the brasserie and curry room served excellent food.
We were within 5 minutes walk of the High Street and 10 minutes from the esplanade. Though not cheap, if you're looking for a 5-star experience then you will not be disappointed!
We would like to thank everyone who looked after us!

Just returned from a lovely stay in Guernsey to celebrate our Golden Wedding. We stayed at the Old Government House or as all the islanders call it The OGH. It is a lovely high quality hotel, we wanted everything to be great for our special occasion and it was. Best of all were the staff who were all so helpful and friendly nothing was any trouble for them. We were given a glass of bubbly on arrival and a cake they made on our anniversary day. Memorable meal in the lovely restaurant made it a time to recall with much happiness. We can really recommend The OGH for anyone wanting a lovely relaxing break in such a beautiful setting, so thanks again to all the wonderful staff well done.

This hotel is 5 stars and felt it. The service was impeccable but really friendly. Everyone was great but the chap on reception (Tom, I think) made us feel both at home and like nothing was too much trouble from minute one. He was great. We soon met Noks when we had curry. Again gave you the all the service you could ask for but was personalble. She would ask after each course if the food was enjoyable. Noks, your service with a smile was enjoyable. Malcolm in the bar was also brilliant. He really knows how to make a cocktail. We did the cocktail making course and that was great way to find out the basics so I can experiement. Again he was super friendly. The food was brilliant the curry was great, the afternoon tea was wonderful, the breakfast was lovely. Litterally no complaints, it was all enjoyable. The room has excellent air con, the pool was really relaxing and the kiddies pool.was great for lounging in. Honestly it was about as good a as gets. OGH is not a cheap place to stay. But feels costly rather than expensive. By that I mean it was worth the money. I would absolutely return.

OGH is a real find. Staff are super professional and nothing is too much trouble with Guest Services Manager, Govind Prathap and Restaurant Manager Alessandro being absolutely on top of their game.
Quite the best Lobster Thermidor I have ever tasted.
Comfortable beds and well fitted bathrooms.
Return visit already in the diary.
Highly recommended.

Just returned from 4 nights at this nice hotel. The USP of this hotel is their staff and their attention to detail is outstanding. The restaurant serves food of the highest quality with service to match. Where we struggle to offer equal praise is on a few fronts. The room we had (201) was very tired and needs some attention. The carpet had some very dodgy stains and the windows were very difficult to open or shut particularly in the toilet where we couldn’t shut the upper part of the window. The walk-in shower was reasonably ok but my wife who has mobility problems due to MS found it very difficult to get in and out due to a large step. When we book a hotel we always insist on a ground level wet room/shower and we thought we made this known prior to arrival. The hotel offers a nice turn down service but that never happened on our final night! Finally, always check with this hotel if they’re hosting a wedding reception as the priority seemed to lean towards the wedding as opposed to residents, we we’re actually asked to leave the garden to make way for pre-wedding drinks for the wedding party! To be fair to the manager, he notified us of increased noise until midnight and get to breakfast early to avoid having to wait at peak times. The irony of this notification is that we couldn’t avoid the loud music as we couldn’t shut the window; see early references!

Finally, when we arrived at the airport and picked a taxi from the rank the price was always metered and the charge was perfectly acceptable. When we booked a taxi for the return trip to the airport through the OGH reception after leaving the hotel the meter was turned off and the cost was double to that of our inward journey! Our advice is tread carefully and agree costs before leaving. We felt we were well and truly shafted!!

We hope you find these points constructive and are expressed with honesty.

High Wycombe, Bucks.
