Not really 5 star. Entrance misleading we drove and could not park, the very small lay by area would have blocked several cars behind on anns place, only single carriage way we drove off & promptly got lost. The room allocated,107, was not 5 star, the route from the lift was down a long corridor and then from a corner accessed via a tortuous spiral stairway further& two steps to the door. My wife is not disabled but with a heart condition found this, as the week went on a problem. No where on the website is it flagged that some areas were difficult to access, even I found it somewhat intimidating. We never thought for one minute that we should have flagged this up when booking & not to the extent of requesting a " disabled " room. The room itself by 5 star standards poor huge heavy sofa type furniture directly in front of the bay window and in front a large heavy type of coffee table marked and stained to a large extent. Early morning calls missed on three occasions. Incredibly the evening Brasserie menus were the same every day & told that they never change, 5 star never! The staff however were excellent apart from one incidence on reception who could obviously understand our taxi booking request. Particularly of note were concierge Roberto & Langa Breakfasts were a highlight good choices and could not be faulted and of course the excellent Allessandro who is a great asset to the OGH. Another couple we befriended had similar views & even described much of the adornments as (Tat ) Would we recommend most definitely not, stay again no, we have visited Guernsey many times & had far better hotels at a fraction of the cost at OGH, this was pushing the boat out for a special occasion so bitterly disillusioned and upset. G A & A Ward 20th to 27th June room 107.

Our stay at OGH last weekend was fabulous. The service and quality of the food was excellent and in particular we would like to mention Andrew who couldn’t do enough to help us and even fitted in a last minute 2 hour tour of the island on Sunday morning before we flew back in the afternoon.
Kris was very helpful on the front desk sorting dinner arrangements and Mario was amazing in the bar with his service and a smile !
An amazing team all round - the 6 of us had a great time and we will be returning.

On arrival I was very disappointed with our room. It was very small and the air-conditioning did not work. The window didn’t open very far and outside the window was scaffolding and building rubbish. It was unbearably hot. There was a wobbly table in the small bay window with tea and coffee making facilities but you had to move the kettle to the dressing table to plug it in. All a bit shabby for a 5 star. However, I rang reception and we were moved to another room immediately. The concierge that helped us needs a special mention as he was so helpful with information about local tours and buses and nothing was ever too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent. We stayed for 3 nights. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and food was lovely. Service was excellent. We also ate at the curry club and although it was ok, I would not eat there again. My lamb curry tasted lovely but some of the meat was tough. I did question the 5 stars at times as some of the furnishings are a bit tired and the initial experience of being allocated a poor room didn’t help. Thank you to all the staff who clearly help make this hotel special.

My newly wed husband and I had a wonderful celebration of canapés with friends and family. We were situated in the beautiful Olive Grove restaurant overlooking St Peter Port. We were blessed with sunny weather and the food and staff could not have been nicer. The organisation was excellent and we were promised an event room if the weather was inclement. It was all a huge surprise for my family and friends as they were unaware of us getting married that morning and the staff kept the secret perfectly. In particular, although we would like to thank everyone involved, we would like to thank (Prince) Andrew for his kindness shown to my mum who had difficulty parking her car and Martin, and Thobani for their jolly banter throughout the cocktails and canapés. Many thanks again OGH you did us proud.

We attended the cocktail-making class at (I believe in George's bar) for a birthday celebration, and it was a fantastic experience! Shaminee, our instructor, was absolutely superb. She not only taught us how to make delicious cocktails but also made the entire experience incredibly enjoyable and fun. Her knowledge and enthusiasm truly made the class special. The cocktails were also absolutely delicious! We tried to replicate Shaminee's cocktail making but she's in a class of her own. We were also served snacks for the class which were also stunning! The salmon and the crab were so fresh and tasty!
Shaminee is a real asset to the hotel, providing excellent customer service and personalising the experience for each of us. The hotel itself is beautiful, and although we didn't stay overnight, the ambiance and the exceptional service from the staff made a strong impression. I would love to return and stay in the future based on what I saw.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to have a great time while learning something new!

We chose the OGH because it was advertised as Guernsey's only 5star Hotel. We received a very warm welcome. We were slightly disappointed when told that although we had paid for an upgrade to a King room, that this had neither a balcony nor sea view. The first impression of the room was, that it was a little bit small for a 5star Hotel, but we soon got over that initial slight disappointment. Staff attention was excellent throughout the Hotel, from Reception to Concierge and Bar- and Restaurant Staff, everybody was warm, welcoming and helpful. We had Dinner twice at the Brasserie Hotel during our 5 night stay, the food was excellent, although the choice perhaps a bit limited, but nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our meals, inluding the breakfasts in the mornings. We also ate Dinner once at the Governor's room, which specializes in South African curries. Once again, the service was excellent and the food very good. Please also note, that the main High Street in St Peter Port and the Pier below is within easy walking distance. Overall, this was a memorable and very pleasant stay.

We visited the attractive historic Old Government House Hotel , St Peter Port, Guernsey for a 4 night birthday treat for at the end of May 2024.
Overall we had a very enjoyable stay, after initial blips!

We used a Travelzoo deal through Channel Islands Direct , which was not super cheap, especially having paid extra to upgrade to a kingsize room.
On the first day it felt at times that we were treated as second class citizens owing to being on a deal. .Notably our restaurant experience on the first night ,and also the quality of our room in comparison with those which we had seen on on the OGH website.

The safe in our room wasn’t working and it took a very long time to get it sorted and replaced on the first afternoon of our stay.

Positive Aspects

*Very warm welcome with Prosecco on arrival
*Attractive foyer
*Very friendly and generally competent staff in all areas/aspects of the hotel throughout our stay
*The reaction of duty manager Kris to our our complaints was extremely thorough and positive. He was first class throughout our stay
*On arrival we were given a tour of the hotel facilities
*Our luggage was collected from the taxi and taken to our room despite early arrival
*Told that our upgrade kingsize room had a sea view
*Very comfortable bed
*Lovely quality linen
*Breakfast service excellent and quality of food first class and very prompt on all days . Alessandro runs a very good morning restaurant team
*Striking green and white striped decor in the brasserie restaurant
*Afternoon tea was delicious and plentiful
*The restaurant staff appeared to have learned from the mistakes made at dinner on the first night
*Pool looked wonderful , but we didn’t get to use it owing to poor weather

Extra Note
For my birthday we ate at Le Nautique Restaurant and had a fabulous experience there

Negatives

*Room security safe broken and wasted a considerable time waiting for it to be replaced
*Although having paid for an upgrade we felt that despite being given a sea view , that the room and all furnishings were rather dull, shabby and worn - it all felt very beige and drab. Poor storage space and poor quality of drawers and bedside cabinets
Overall well below standard for a 5 star hotel room!
*Cracked basin in the bathroom
*Poor lock on balcony door
*Although we had a sea view we had an enormous flat roof obscuring our sea view
*Access to our room was difficult with only partial lift access
(We know that it is a very old characterful building but that is what we found )

*Everything about dinner on the first night was appalling .
We were given wrong menus, no drinks order was taken, butter was put on the table but no bread was given as they had run out , despite the table next to us being given rolls .
We were totally ignored.
Staff seemed very pressured and unable to cope. No one explained what was happening
We finally left the restaurant after waiting nearly an hour for someone to take an order
My husband complained straight away to the restaurant manager and then to the duty manager, Kris . He went out of his way to appease our concerns . Thereafter there were no further restaurant issues

I can honestly say I don’t think I have ever been so blown away by such impeccable service in an incredibly wonderful hotel. Ricardo and his team are faultless - the service is impeccable, friendly and nothing is too much, nothing. Every fine detail is taken care of and the hotel owners should be incredibly proud of the incredible staff management and team at this hotel. The food was utterly delicious and the rooms were spotless and cosy. We unfortunately had a medicine emergency during our stay which meant I was in hospital for a whole morning - Riccardo and his team were just amazing - I’m teary writing this. I had to leave my 10 month old son with with father at the hotel during my hospital visit and Riccardo and his team all made sure my father had huge help with the baby and even looked after him so my father could have some breakfast. Riccardo even picked me up from hospital.
Honestly, if you want 10* service in a beautiful hotel then don’t hesitate to book - cannot recommend this beautiful hotel more.

From the time we stepped over the threshold into the reception and were welcomed with smiles and a glass of chilled Prosecco, to our departure espressos ,we were treated with warmth ,kindness and generosity . Others have written about the quality of the hospitality , the sumptuous breakfasts , comfortable bedrooms.(lavender pillows as requested , pure cotton linen and , yes, fluffy white towels and robes ). The well ordered teamwork in the restaurant created a relaxing calmness that is rare , as did the absence of intrusive background music ..No request was too much trouble.Truly the staff are delightful ; as an elderly couple we felt especially cared for -from housekeepers, restaurant staff to duty managers who took the time to chat to us . We were not able to thank the catering staff but our compliments on one of the best ever afternoon teas ! A happy experience of our first visit to Guernsey and to the memorable OGH .

Wow, wow, wow, we had a four night stay at the beginning of May and can only speak highly of this hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and a couple of tiny issues we had, were rectified immediately. Service in the bar and restaurant was great, staff in the restaurant helpful with local information and the food is so good. We had an afternoon tea, a lunch, breakfast everyday and also a taster of the lunchtime grill - all of the food is excellent, thanks to the chef and his team. Would recommend this hotel to everyone and would definitely like to return for another visit.

We were disappointed as our luxury Queen room was small and only had a double bed. We thought it was more a three star. There was a stain on the carpet and a gap around the bath overflow and the whole room was tired. we expressed our concerns at the time but were told that they were fully booked

Stayed one night here before going on to Sark. Wow! Amazing place. The service was exceptional. Roberto the customer relations manager was very friendly and showed us round the hotel on arrival and explained the services provided. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a refreshing warmth and welcoming atmosphere when we arrived.
The food was very good. We all had dinner in the restaurant that evening and couldn’t fault it.
Breakfast was plentiful with a vast range to cater for everyone’s taste buds.
The hotel was very clean, well maintained and managed. The weather was good and there is the benefit of an outside pool area.
We will definitely go back again when visiting back to Sark but will also stay a few more days at this hotel to feel the real benefits it has to offer.

5 days in Guernsey at the out standing Old Government House, we consider ourselves considerably well travelled, and the staff at the OGH were exceptional, there is a saying that people make places and this was one of those experiences,
Will definitely be back.

This beautiful hotel set in old buildings is a haven of peace and everything is perfect. First of all, the location, slightly set back but a stone's throw from the shopping streets and the port. Very quiet, with a small garden and a heated outdoor swimming pool which allows you to swim in the slightest ray of sunshine. Excellent breakfast, even the croissants are as good as in France. All the staff are friendly and available, with special thanks to Kris, who made our stay even more pleasant by finding solutions to our small problems.
Of course it's not cheap, but for us it was a special occasion and we didn't regret our choice.

this 5* hotel was booked for a 60th birthday surprise for myself and upon first entering we thought wow as the foyer is stunning but we encourred several issues with our first room 316 ,the classic double room was very small and tight for space on right side of bed only a tight small gap to get in and out of the bed but main issue was no hot water and smelly black water coming up thro bath plug hole when basin tap turned on ,this was swiftly reported and acted on and we were then put in a suite 322 which upon first entering at 11pm seemed lovely but in daylight lots of issues noticed .mouldy window frames and curtains, stains and dirty marks on fabric covered walls ,dusty skirting boards and ledges, chipped glass top on dressing table ,make up marks on dressing gown ,no soap in bathroom, lots of chipped and marked paintwork and a large glass droplet on dusty chandelier missing ,on a positive the bed was very comfortable .
The breakfast was lovely first morning and all the team helpful and friendly, 2nd morning not so good as we had minor issue with being greeted in a grumpy manner and getting a table and my breakfast overcooked ,I did get offerred another eventually but my husband had finished his so declined .the 3rd morning was better but the 4th service was very slow and had to chase up coffee and toast after 40 mins wait and it was no busier than previous mornings .
The large curtains in the brassiere are very stained as is the carpet in a couple of places .
When we left mid afternoon on Thursday as we said goodbye we hardly got a goodbye in return let alone a hope you enjoyed your stay have a safe trip !
None of these issues should be encountered in a 5* hotel especially at the prices ! There is also a 12.5% charge automatically placed on anything you purchase .
The hotel needs detailed inspection and work in places and whilst I appreciate this is an old building, if you claim to be 5* then the whole place needs to reflect that and be totally immacualate.
This has left us very disappointed and me in particular extremely deflated about what should have been an amazing experience for my birthday

We stayed for 4 nights on an excellent package including breakfast, a dinner and an afternoon tea. The hotel is brilliantly run, nicely situated, very calming and genteel. It forms a central part of the holiday, in a lovely town, on a lovely island.
