Bolton Council aims to improve the town's waste recycling rates with the launch of the 'Right stuff, Right bin' campaign on Tuesday, April 22.

The campaign, which is funded by Recycle for Greater Manchester, will be rolled out to a recycling collection round in the Halliwell area of Bolton over the next eight weeks in a bid to improve the area's recycling rates. If the campaign proves to be successful it may be expanded to further areas of Bolton.

The 'Right stuff, Right bin' campaign involves educating residents about what can and can't go in the recycling bins.

A large number of residents are recycling correctly, but there is still some confusion around therecycling of some items.

Bolton Council wants to ensure that residents understand that items such as yoghurt pots, margarine tubs, plastic food trays and carrier bags cannot be recycled and should go in the grey bin.

Residents living in the campaign area will either be left a green 'thank you' tag on bins that contain the correct items for recycling or a red 'wrong stuff, wrong bin' tag.

If they have put incorrect items in the recycling bins, these bins will not be collected, however the tag will include a reminder of which items can go in your bin for next time.

The campaign message to 'recycle right' will be backed up by leaflets, posters and a team visiting houses on the chosen bin collection round.

A roadshow hosted by Key 103 will take place at Morrisons, Chorley Old Road on Thursday, April 24, and residents are encouraged to come along if they need any recycling help or advice.

Councillor Elaine Sherrington, Cabinet Member for Waste, Recycling and Housing at Bolton Council, said: "A large number of people in the borough already work hard at recycling most of their waste. However, some people still struggle to identify the correct items for each bin and this could be for a number of reasons.

"It is always good to try new ideas to raise the level of recycling, which in turn saves the town money. I hope people will get involved with this new initiative which should make a difference."
