Bolton Hospice's 'Garden of Tranquility' has been awarded a Britain In Bloom Medal.

The garden was created through the fundraising efforts of local people offering donations and holding charity events. The garden was previously run down and through these fundraising effors was given a complete makeover with flower beds and pergolas giving a space of calm and tranquility within the hospice grounds.

A potting shed was also added to the garden and raised flower beds to enable those in wheelchairs to be able to participate in building the garden and sow flowers, plants and vegetables.

The garden was given a Silver Gilt Medal by Britain In Bloom and has a regular team of volunteers who keep it looking its best.

The garden provides a perfect outlook for the inpatient bedrooms and also a place for patients, visitors and staff to sit and enjoy.

In 2012 Bolton Hospice will launch an Open Gardens Scheme which will ask local people to open their gardens, allotments or woodlands to raise money for the charity.
