Lavenham gets set to welcome sights and sounds of Rio

An Olympic-inspired carnival will be bringing Rio to the historic streets of Lavenham during the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The annual Lavenham Carnival will this year be celebrating the sights and sounds of Brazil with a host of entertainment for all the family.

The Tropicalia Samba dancers and drummers will be bringing a Brazilian flavour alongside comedienne entertainer ‘Garden Veranda’ – who last year wowed the crowds with her Une Femme Exposee show.

The Rare Breeds Motor Show, samba workshops and a children’s activity tent are also carnival attractions when it returns on Sunday 28th August.

The entertainment commences on the evening of Saturday 27th August with a ‘Club Carnival’ music night courtesy of the Azwun band, trombonist T-Bone and DJ Richie Rich in a specially-erected marquee on the Recreation Ground.

Organiser Annie Eves-Boland said: “The Olympics is a wonderful celebration of sporting achievement and Rio is an explosion of sight and sound.

“We want to celebrate both at this year’s Carnival which will have something for all the family. We are working hard to ensure this year’s event is the best Lavenham Carnival to date.”

Other entertainment and activities include, land zorbing, archery, bungee trampolining, bumper boats/Cars, a peddling pineapple car, an inflatable assault course and various stalls and local food and drink stands.

The Carnival will be supporting the Lavenham Community Council, which is currently fundraising for a new pre-school building.

Admission to the Carnival on Sunday 28th August is £5 per adult with free admission for Under-16s. Entrance Programmes are available from local businesses in advance or at the gates on the day.

Tickets for Club Carnival on Saturday 27th August are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for Under-16s and are available at Sparling and Faiers Bakery, No. 10, The Butchers, The Cock Horse and the village’s British Legion club.

Tickets will also be available on the night.
