Commercial insurance: what are the options for your business?

If you use a van or truck in your business, you will need a specific type of policy, and not one that's covered by your regular car insurance.

So, who needs commercial vehicle insurance?

If you have a company-owned or leased vehicle, you will need to have commercial insurance. This could be a food truck, lorry or van. Likewise, if you privately own a vehicle that’s also used for commercial purposes; maybe you make deliveries, transport paying customers or move goods from one place to another.

However, there are occasions when commercial insurance isn’t necessary. This would be if you use your own car for business. Maybe you’re visiting customers, making sales visits (and that could include carrying samples of goods) or travelling to work to multiple locations. You might just need business insurance.

And if you use your vehicle to commute to your office, then your standard car insurance will be fine (but don’t forget to mention your commute to your insurance broker)
