Classic Noel Coward Comedy Returns to the Quay Theatre: Relative Values on Stage This November

Following the sold-out success of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, the Quay Theatre Sudbury is excited to welcome the return of Quay Productions and Pelham Elliott Productions with another thrilling theatrical offering. From the 14th to 16th November 2024, the stage will come alive with Relative Values, a sharp and witty comedy of manners written by the legendary playwright Noel Coward.

This time, the audience will find themselves immersed in the turbulent world of Marshwood House, where chaos ensues as Nigel, the Earl, brings home his bride-to-be, none other than the glamorous American movie star, Miranda Frayle. With a blend of humour, class tension, and unexpected arrivals, including Miranda’s former lover, Hollywood heartthrob Don Lucas, the plot thickens as Nigel’s mother, Felicity, grapples with the reality of her son’s unconventional choice. Add to the mix a disgruntled maid and a clever butler reminiscent of Jeeves, and you have the perfect recipe for an evening of uproarious laughter.

First performed in 1951, Relative Values delighted audiences with its quick-witted dialogue and Coward’s signature blend of charm and satire. Director Pelham Elliott, a Suffolk-based actor and writer, believes the play still resonates today, particularly in its portrayal of the collision between Hollywood glamour and the traditional English aristocracy. He notes how the characters’ carefully constructed public personas often crumble in the face of stark reality, producing both hilarity and insight.

This production is a fundraiser for The Quay Theatre, making it a fantastic opportunity to support a beloved local venue while enjoying top-quality theatre.

Tickets are available now! You can purchase them via the Quay Theatre website: www.quaysudbury.com or by contacting the Box Office on 01787 374745.

This promises to be another memorable event for Sudbury’s vibrant theatre scene—don’t miss your chance to be part of it!
