What Does ‘Regulated’ Mean?

Knight Property Management is proud to be regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) – but what does this actually mean?

RICS is the global professional body promoting and enforcing the highest international standards in the valuation, management and development of land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. Put simply, RICS delivers a single, international standard that supports a safe and vibrant marketplace, for the benefit of all.

You can trace the history of RICS back to 1792 when the Surveyors Club was formed. The group had expanded to 49 members by 1868, when its first council and president were elected. Offices were then leased at 12 Great George Street, which remains the home of RICS.

Being incorporated by Royal Charter requires RICS to promote the usefulness of the profession for the advantage of the UK public. In practice, the Charter means that important changes to the RICS constitution have to be approved by members before being ratified by the Government, through the Privy Council.

Even in our modern and technology driven society, Royal Charters are seen as a “gold standard” of excellence and integrity.

Rightly proud of its reputation, RICS guards it fiercely, so clients who work with its registered professionals can have confidence in the quality and ethics of the services they receive.

Consumer protection and the development of the profession for the benefit of the public are very much at the core of RICS. These are the reasons why the body has retained its Royal Charter status for well over a century.

Today, RICS accredits 125,000 qualified and trainee professionals and any registered individual or firm is subject to its quality assurance. To ensure high standards are maintained across the industry members are internally monitored and inspected.

In a crowded and largely unregulated marketplace, Knight Property Management stands out by fully guaranteeing all its services and being a member of RICS. This is why our landlords and tenants use us with complete confidence.
