The longest EVER tennis match?

Welcome to the Hertford blog.

We received a message via our Facebook page yesterday from someone who wants to give her colleague, Dave Madell as much support as possible in his heroic money raising event for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research.

Here’s Dave’s description of his quirky and fun idea:

“A couple of years ago Wimbledon staged its longest ever singles match when John Isner from America was drawn against Nicolas Mahut of France. Over 3 days (due to weather & time constraints) the match actually lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes, with Isner winning 70-68 in the destructive 5th & last set.

My aim is to "last" as long as they did, and playing continuously for that same length of time, but to teach the lazy so-called athletes how it's done I aim to do it all in one day. The idea is to mix up those that play, and make it eligible to all ages and all standards (I am hardly a great player myself so that isn't an issue).

People can come and watch and grab a drink and a snack, or join in! 20 minute sessions are available, we need people to sign up asap. If you would like to play, please go to the Legends website:

If you would like to sponsor him please use the Just Giving link www.justgiving.com/legendstennis

The event takes place on 11th November at Haileybury School.
