Welcome to the Hertford blog.

At thebestof Hertford we get asked a lot to promote charity events that are going on in the local area.  We are always happy to help, but recently I met the chairman of a local charity I hadn’t heard of before.  I was lucky enough to watch motivational speaker, Michael McGrath speak at a local networking event a few weeks ago.  He is the chairman of the Muscle Warriors charity based down the road from Hertford in Buntingford.

Muscle Warriors is a unique charity that offers incredible support and experiences to children and young people with Muscular Dystrophy.  For those that don’t know what Muscular Dystrophy is, it refers to a group of muscle hereditary diseases that weaken the muscles that move the body.  Sufferers experience pain and loss of movement amongst numerous other symptoms which make muscular dystrophy an extremely terrible disease to live with.

Muscle Warriors aim to strive to offer young sufferers of the disease with an outlet to live their dreams and ambitions to the full.  Experiences cater to dreams such as race days, chances to meet football stars and appearances on Top Gear amongst dozens of others.

Chaired by motivational speaker and founder of the charity, Michael McGrath who himself suffers from the disease Muscle Warriors hold local fundraising events on a large scale, and they need your help!  What makes Michael a phenomenon is his incredible pole to pole challenge which he undertook in 2002 and 2004.  The famous pole to pole challenge is a gruelling task which sees participants trek to both the north and south poles.  Now, 7 years on from his amazing journey, he has plans to reach somewhere even more inaccessible.....space.  Yes even Michael McGrath has his own dreams and ambitions and his next challenge is to go on board the Virgin Galactic craft and go into sub orbit.  He said:

“Taking a berth with Virgin Galactic on board a suborbital space flight would not only be an incredible experience but it would also provide a unique message around inclusion as well as a platform to reinforce that inspirational can-do ethos that millions of disabled people on our planet subscribe to.”

If you want to be part of this incredible mission into outer space, as well as support an incredible charity contact Michael via his website by clicking here.

On a smaller, more local scale you can help by attending Muscle Warriors local events, the next being this coming bank holiday Monday on the 29th August at Hertford Cricket Club.  The day will see a charity cricket tournament take place with a fully licensed bar open all day and food available too.  There will be opportunities to support the charity by buying t-shirts and wristbands and entry is free with plenty of parking available too.  Gates open at 11am and the event runs until early evening.

Michael would love to see you there, and you can find out more via Muscle Warriors website by clicking here.
