Popping the Question ...

A lady came to us after her new fiancée proposed to her while abroad. It is more and more common for us to speak to couples when deciding on an engagement ring rather than a Gent deciding the design by himself.

He had popped the question with a costume ring, of course by the time they came back from holiday the lady was already in love with her ring and didn’t want to part with it.

When they popped in to discuss the possibility of a new ring it was clear that she didn’t want to stray too far away from her original ring in terms of design. In came our CAD system. We took photos of her existing ring meaning she could continue to wear it while the design process took place.

We explained that with our Computer Aided Design, (CAD) process we could copy the exact ring or make slight modifications if needed. The customer could view the ring before it was made via specialised renders so that she could tweak the design if needed. As a free process this is a wonderful tool for us to use and not need to charge the customer. In turn it illuminates any dread from both parties that the desired piece isn’t quite right once it’s made.

Our process started with the CAD visuals and adding only details she would know, like a heart under the centre setting only visible if she ever took off the ring. We then sourced her stones, the diamonds were fairly straight forward, and they stood in place of the Cubic Zirconia’s of the original ring, making it very sparkly indeed. The centre stone was trickier. In the original, polished blue glass gave the look of a topaz centre stone but it was an unusual colour, we sourced a number of stones for our customer to view and choose her favourite. Once this was finalised we were able to push on with the more technical side of the designs making sure the stones fitted etc.

The final product was beautiful, a little more unusual than a conventional engagement ring with a blue topaz centre stone and surrounding diamonds. It is stunning!

There’s nothing wrong with being different and here we like a challenge.
The whole process took around 5-6 weeks and our customer was delighted with the results. We now know she has a ring for life and look forward to providing her with a custom designed wedding band too!
