Do you go to business networking meetings?
Whether the answer is yes or no if you own a business whether it is a one-man-band cottage industry or you employ a couple of hundred staff if you haven't been along to a Hertford Business Buzz networking meeting yet then you and your business are missing out.
It's the easiest type of networking you can do as there is no pressure at all, so no 60 second pitch, no membership, no responsibility to give referrals – nothing except a group of friendly people who enjoy chatting with other like-minded business people about the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of owning and running a business.
Some people come to find people who can assist in various aspects of their own business or home-life, eg. Maybe you want to book a holiday but just don't have the time so finding a travel counsellor who can relieve you of that task is just what you need. Or maybe you've been struggling with dealing with a difficult member of staff and don't know what to do next so a chat with an HR consultant would help enormously. In both cases a low-key, no commitment chat over a coffee at a Business Buzz meeting could solve your problems in one easy move.
Other people come along to give their business a boost, in fact most people who go networking are looking to build their business by getting more clients. Business Buzz meetings are a great way of getting the name of your business out there without it costing an arm and a leg, in fact it's cheap as chips! At the Hertford Business Buzz we usually have on average about 30 people come each month so that's quite a few people to discuss your business with and more importantly, learn about other people's businesses.
One tip I would give if you're new to networking is don't be a 'card-thruster'! Lets call our card thruster Nigel (no connection to anyone we know called Nigel by the way). Nigel desperately wants to get more work/clients and so each person he meets he shoves his business card under his poor unsuspecting victim's nose and starts going on and on about his business. If you want to scare people off then that's the best way to do it but if you want anyone to take an interest in your business then you must first take an interest in theirs by listening and learning about other peoples businesses, then they in turn will ask you about yours and they won't run away telling everyone to avoid Nigel!
If you fancy dipping your toe in business networking with a friendly team supporting you until you find your feet then come along to a Hertford Business Buzz meeting where my co-host David and I (Jan) will be very pleased to meet you. We will introduce you to some interesting people and you'll find yourself included in a warm and relaxed group of business people like the lovely HR expert, Matt Pinto Chilcott from Consensus HR or the upbeat and ever smiling Dean Waters from the Hertfordshire Mercury or the hugely popular mobile beauty therapist Jane DeVera Lee or perhaps John Wagstaff who is extremely knowledgeable from Longmores Solicitors.
All these people and many many more come along to the Hertford Business Buzz to share ideas, meet new people and catch up with old friends and acquaintances, whatever their reasons they enjoy coming, it's easy, it's low-cost networking and business gets done.
To make it even easier for you just turn up and tell us you saw an offer in thebestof Hertford and Ware newsletter for a voucher and this will give you or a guest entry FREE OF CHARGE to one of the Hertford Business Buzz meetings, the only restriction is that it is for two people and one of you must be coming for the first time. It's up to you to work out which of you comes in for free!
