A lovely hotel in a great postition. It's right in town so great to wander down to the shops in the day and lots of restaurant choices close by at night. Beautiful conservatory area to eat in, great club sandwich and delicious afternoon tea! Service was occasionally slow but didn't bother us. It's one of the more expensive hotel but we thought it was worth it.

The staff make you feel "special" the minute you walk through the door. Everything is focussed on the guest's requirements and this is a refreshing almost unique experience these days.
Our experience could hardly have been bettered and it is one of the best Hotels I have stayed at in 50 years of regular travel !

The only slight criticism I could make was that the room was slightly small for a 5 day stay , but it was fully equipped, exceptionally clean and the Harbour view amply made up for this .

Food was excellent both in the Brassiere and the flag ship Governers restaurant and the breakfast was superb in all respects.

Came over for a long weekend with my wife and we were both thoroughly impressed with this beautiful hotel. Full of period character & charm, the OGH is well situated close to the heart of St Peter Port within short walking distance of the restaurants and shops, (a bit hilly but that's St Peter Port!) We were blessed with fine weather and the hotel pool was blissful.

Perhaps the most important feature though is the level of service from the staff - absolutely first class - and friendly with it. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway.

We had our honeymoon at the OGH recently, and had a fantastic stay.
We really enjoyed the nice touches - the Champaign and rose petal heart on the bed, on our first evening. It made it very special.
Also our room was excellent, with a lovely view over the sea across to Herm and a nice balcony to sit and enjoy it all.

The quality of the hotel and their staff is only matched by the quality of the guests while we were there. If you appreciate high quality food, service and ambiance, you will love this hotel. If you want fish & chips and a pint, and a cheap hotel - stay away. The staff are fantastic and they obviously have a very good head chef. For a dining treat, go for the 7 course meal with selected wines at least once during your stay. I'm beyond exerting myself in the gym, but really enjoyed the spa and the pool.
Excellent hotel - well done OGH.

Just returned from 4 days in Guernsey and had the good fortune to stay at the OGH.
If you are one for exceptional service and a fantastic all-round hotel, look no further.

We recently stayed in the OGH for three nights. We cannot speak highly enough of the whole experience. The staff cannot do enough for you and the hotel is very luxurious

This is a lovely hotel, like stepping back in time but still luxury. Lovely spa facilities (book in advance though) food is delicious, well presented and reasonably priced.
The room was a bit small but well formed, just a shame that our room overlooked the car park.
The staff were fabulous - no request too large or small and the valet parking was a nice extra touch.
Some great deals to be had when booking too.

I have stayed in many luxury hotels during my travels but never have I felt so valued and treated as a guest. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and pampered. The managers, who are clearly at the top of their game, went out of their way to accommodate us and the staff were genuinely concerned about our experience and comfort. The rooms are luxuriously decorated and impeccably kept and make the guest feel instantaneously relaxed. Dining at the hotel restaurant was fantastic and the overall ambience of the hotel made it a trip to remember. I wouldn't think twce about going back to this fabulous hotel!

Stayed at the Old Government House Hotel in May for 6 days, I would congratulate the staff on their professionalism and kindness to us on our stay. The Brassire was so welcoming and the staff made sure that your every wish was granted a very friendly atmosphere. The Spa is marvellous, great de stresser. The food in the restuarant was excellent and the attention to detail next to none. The room we stayed in was very spacious with a beautiful view over the bay. The buses to get around were fantastic and so much to see and do. Would definately return.

A lovely hotel in the centre of St Peter Port. We booked a 'king, sea view' room which was very nicely decorated. The view from our balcony over looked the whole of the harbour. The bathroom was adequate but on the small size. Breakfast was good but not excellent. The outdoor pool area was really good - the pool heated and a good size. The hotel location is excellent - close to the centre of St Peter Port - ideal for trying local restaurants (no trip to Guernsey is clomplete without a trip to Brown's restaruant in the Old Quarter, booking recommended). For us, this has been a perfect holiday ... the sun shone the whole time, we hired a tandem and cycled everywhere, food was great. The icing on the cake were the OGH staff - thoroughly professional, helpful and friendly. We thought you were great.

Lovely room with an extremely comfortable (and massive!) bed which was a real treat after a long flight from South Africa, via London to the channel Islands. Friendly and "down to earth" staff. Great spread at the buffet breakfast.

Having over thirty years of international travel and staying in several hundred hotels I found the Old Government House a perfect gem of a hotel with traditional old world charm so rarely found in the modern world.

The service was impeccable and no request to much trouble for the staff.

Food in both restaurants was superb - cooked, presented and served to the highest of standards and a gourmet meal in the Governor's fine dining restaurant is a treat not to be missed - ever!!

The Spa is superbly equipped and can cater to every need.

We shall definitely be staying again.

We were so impressed with this perfect gem of a hotel which we chose for our short honeymoon break. The service without exception was incredibly helpful. The food was outstanding, especially the surprise tasting menu in the Governor's Restaurant and the very fresh seafood. Our room was roomy, tastefully decorated and comfortable with a gorgeous bathroom and had views across the entire harbour and castle. The hotel is located minutes from the main shopping area of St Peter Port and the harbour and it was lovely to be able to go 'car-free' for a few days without feeling confined or isolated. There was plenty to see in the area and the concierge service arranged taxis and helped plan our sightseeing. We have nothing but praise for this hotel and look forward to returning again soon.

What a lovely atmosphere in this place. It reminds me of the Goodwood in Singapore. Time has stopped and we're back in a gentler era. We only had lunch. The food was good - I had a simple salad, but such as it was, it was well prepared and well presented. Waiters were elegant, helpful and seemed to be happy, with cheery smiles as they passed each other - seemed like the working atmosphere was as good behind the scenes. Our table overlooked the gardens, which were pretty and tranquil. I fully intend to go back and stay in the hotel.

This hotel is in a wonderful location. The suite that we had was amazing. The room service was exceptional. The staff in this hotel are something we have never come across before. Nothing is to small or large and they are so friendly & very efficient. The restaurants are very good which reflects on the chef. We look forward to another visit in the summer months.

One of two recent stays at OGH. Traditional, clean, small rooms, front desk staff very friendly and helpful - porters young, enthusiastic and a tad overzealous. Ater at the Bistro, good, interesting menu. Location without peer for St Peter Port town.

I booked one night at The Old Government House as I had to go to Guernsey on business. The cheapest I could find for a standard room with breakfast was £125 so went with it. On arrival we were taken to our room which was pokey and certainly not what I expected for the night. I looked at an upgraded room for an extra £50 a night which was somewhat better but ended up paying an additional £70 for a decent room - at this time of year in Guernsey when the hotel had 12 rooms empty was on the excessive side. The location of the hotel is very good being just a five minute walk from the town centre of St Peter Port. Parking is not so good as there is a small car park at the back of the hotel which they say is valet parking but it was easier to park it myself. The public rooms are very nice, elegant and inviting and a glass of wine was reasonable at £4 or £16 a bottle. Breakfast was excellent and served in a nice conservatory. Check in was a dither and as I wanted to change my room it took about 10 minutes to find one available. The young Concierge was charming and really put himself out to help. The staff overall were very obliging and attentive. The upgraded room we had was spacious with a very large bed and lots of wardrobe space but strangely enough no shelves. There are tea/coffee making facilities and they will provide fresh milk free of charge. The bathroom was not so great and had a very small shower cubicle and looked more dated that the bedroom itself - possibly a cheap makeover when the bedroom was decorated. There was no fridge in the room and annoyingly for a 4* hotel, no in room safe. There is free internet access through the television but it was not the easiest to use. All in all, it was a pleasant overnight stay in a very nice hotel but on the expensive side for what it is. A colleague of mine stayed at the St. Pierre Park which is newly refurbished and he got a double room including breakfast and car hire for just over £80. We called in there for a coffee and it is very smart indeed so on reflection , I think he got the better deal and I would try the St. Pierre Park if I have to return to Guernsey.

Excellent service from staff. Helpful but unobtrusive. Room well furnished with comfortable beds and good views over the harbour to Herm and Sark. The Governors restaurant was really excellent - food of very good quality. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and the hotel provided complimentary champagne.

At a special rate of ca. € 170 including breakfast and dinner (off season) I received excellent value. The hotel is an intimate gem in the center of Guernsey, exuding old world charm with a typical British note. The service was very good (pre-arrival and post-stay questionnaires by e-mail), the food also (for British standards). With some outside heaters and blankets provided in the garden restaurant, even cigar smokers would find a perfect environment.

We have spent 5 days in the hotel. The hotel itself was ok although I would not stay there again. It was reasonably clean but the staff was mostly unhappy looking and not very friendly. The reception did not seem to know anything in St Peter's Port which is very strange considering the size of the place and had to call the taxi company to find out where some of the major streets were. The bistro is a different story. Almost all of the staff looked and served like it was there first day in the business. We had breakfast there every morning and every time they would forget toast, coffee, black pudding in the English breakfast etc. We heard at least one complaint from other people every morning. It was even worse at dinner time. We tried to dine there once and that was more than enough to realize that the place was quite bad. I ordered lobster and avocado salad which was about 13 pounds and there was no avocado there. They only told me about this after I asked where avocado was. After another 10 min of waiting I was informed that they didn't have one. Another unpleasant thing was staff's judging comments on clients' food choice; also, we had to ask for milk for our coffee several times and to wait for it for about 10 min; etc. Generally, the bistro was not a pleasant place to be because of the staff. They did have a new bistro manager who had only just started and was at least making an effort to chat with people so things might improve. All in all, I guess the major problem we had with the hotel and the bistro was the staff and their skills (or a lack thereof in most cases).

We recently stayed in the Old Government House Hotel, recommended to us by a friend. From arriving to leaving the staff were very amiable and eager to please. A car parking facitlity was availble at no extra cost and our stay was made enjoyable by the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The room itself, which although there was no sea view, was pleasant, clean and catered for all needs including an umbrella! The bistro was light and airy with views of the port whereas the restaurant was more intimate with fewer tables. The only down side was the temperature in the restaurant, this was a little on the warm side and would have been better for diners if the air con was on, even if only for a short time.
Although we didn't swim in the pool, the area looked clean and inviting as was the remainder of the gardens with places to sit and enjoy the view or have a drink.
In summary, the hotel is ideal for a comfortable and central stay in Guernsey with friendly staff who want to make your stay memorable.
