We stayed here for 4 days having stayed at another hotel on the other side of the island for 4 days. Great location only minutes into the capital St Peters Port yet on a quiet street.
Beautiful hotel oozing luxury well worth paying that little extra for the sumptious surroundings this hotel offers from the exquisite decor inside the hotel to the beautful gardens and pool area. We stayed in the newly refurbished Herme Suite which had a balcony with magnificent views of the Island. Truly a luxurious room more than enough storage and extra's like the beautiful aroma of Oriental Lillies which we passed on the way to and from our Suite that made this a truly memorable stay. Extremley friendly and attentive staff. I would recommend staying here to anyone.

Enchanting hotel with excellent facilities conveniently located in St. Peter Port. Very courteous, friendly staff all paying extra attention to refer to you by name. One of the waiters even tracked us down in the garden having breakfast on Sunday morning to deliver our newspaper. Very nice atmosphere in the bar and choice of dining in The Brasserie or the small intimate fine dining Governors Restaurant which only accommodates 14 diners so be sure to pre-book your table. We also enjoyed a tour of Victor Hugo's house - guided tours only but worth it - house closes 4pm. Also enjoyed a delicious meal at La Nautique, up a side street at Quayside - fabulous menu. Again, very busy so pre-book in advance.

Just spent a 10-day break at the OGH. We had a balcony with wonderful views over Herm and Sark, although the stalactite/stalagmite that was being formed from the above room spoiled things a touch as did the fact that the air-con in the room was either all or nothing. However these small gripes are just that and did not detract from our stay. The food in the Brasserie was of a very good standard and the service always excellent. No matter how rude and awkward some diners seemed to be, the staff were always happy to oblige and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel as an excellent place to stay, relax and explore from.

We have stayed in many classic American beach resorts that cost $500 to $1000 a day. The Old Government House is a reminder of what service used to be like for the resort traveler. The front staff was very attentive to our needs. Special mention for Donotas, who made us feel like family. The restaurant offers local food that is very well prepared. The breakfast buffet was full of delicious and healthy fruits, cereals and pastries. The formal tea was a delight. Do splurge on the picnic lunch package – ours consisted of a lovely insulated backpack filled with scrumptious goodies. We took our picnic to Moulin Huet Bay – it made for a magical sunset! The room service (24 hours) was very fast and convenient. The housekeeping staff kept our room in superb order and quickly responded to our requests. All this service and just a 1-minute walk to the heart of St. Peter Port. We highly recommend The Old Government House!

OGH is the pinnacle of Hospitality on this beautiful Island ! All aspects of our stay was perfect. The staff are amazing and the rooms exquisitely done. If you are looking for that perfect place to unwind and be rejuvenated then I highly recommend the OGH. The Spa is truly a treat and once again the attentiveness of the staff and the excellent products offered completely blew us away. OGH is a gem and we can't wait to go back !

Just returned from a 3 night break and took advantage of the 3 nights for 2 offer on house suites - WOW had a fantastic room with a large balcony and luxury bathroom with views over to Herm. We booked direct with the hotel and the staff were fantastic giving great advice about the features of the rooms, pay the extra for a balcony if you can, it is so worth it!

Harry and his staff went out of their way to make our stay extra special and a special mention to Harry in particular who was so very welcoming to his hotel. We have stayed in some 5* hotels around the world but have never before enjoyed such wonderful customer service. The food in the brasserie was very good and excellent value for money. We are already planning our return.

This is my 3rd trip to the OGH and we are never disappointed. As always the staff are really friendly and make you feel very welcome. The rooms have recently been upgraded which was overdue but appreciated. The quality of the interior decorations are very high and the small touches on the accessories eg towels etc are what you would expect of a 5 star hotel. A bit disapointed that the shower cubicles had been removed and replaced by a shower attachment over the bath. The splash screen in the bath meant that you had to lean right round to reach the taps. May be tough for someone older. The food as always is excellent and served well. There is a great choice on the menu for both breakfast and dinner. Haven't eaten at the Governors restaurant yet but will do some day. It's a great hotel with super staff who know how to look after you!

We much enjoyed our stay at OGH, a first. Our visit was partly inspired by the Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society book, to which we were introduced by two American friends with whom we will return to the Hotel next May, and partly the excuse for a recce for that 2011 visit.

All the Hotel staff looked after us very well and we thoroughly enjoyed the haute cuisine.

We were very impressed with the kindness, courtesy and genuinely friendly manner in which were treated by all members of the staff and management. Nothing was too much trouble, and the meals in the hotel were excellent. The location of the hotel was a bonus - within easy access to the harbour and town.
We will definitely return for a holiday break there - just to be looked after so efficiently whilst chilling out!

We had a great holiday. The hotel was very good with my toddler and older kids. Felt very at home and cared about. The decor is very clean and lovely old feel to it whilst still clean and fresh. The food, especially breakfast was delicious and the service was good too.

The Island just feels safe and this hotel is well located for visiting the small capital

What a terrific place. First impression created by welcoming, helpful front desk - and high quality, attentive service was maintained over the course of our stay. We sampled - and were impressed by: afternoon tea (great if you can have it outside), breakfast, and the superb degustation menu, with wine, in the Governor's (excellent food, unique setting, really good value). Very good gym and spa facilities (treatments get a 4 out of 5 from the other half, who sampled two for her birthday). We dad to wait a while to be served drinks on occasion (the bar is a bit removed from the indoor lounge) and our bathroom would probably benefit from a little modernising - but this is nitpicking (it would be 5 out of 5's across the board otherwise). If we come back to Guernsey, this is where we will stay.

We travelled with three children aged between 11 and 15. We were given two rooms, both recently redecorated and very elegant. We also brought our dog, who was allowed to stay in our bedroom and was treated with great tolerance. The hotel is wonderfully quiet at night thanks to thick carpets and padded silk walls and has a lovely garden with a swimming pool. There were several families staying with young children, who also appeared to be well looked after. The food was very good, if fairly pricey. Everywhere in Peter Port is within easy walking distance. Like Guernsey generally, there is a slightly anachronistic feel to the place in a good way.

Just returned from a 3 night break at the OGH as an extended family group over 4 generations from 8yrs to 80yrs. The whole experience from making the booking over the phone, to checking in, to departure was everything you would hope it to be from a luxury hotel. Without exception all staff were pleasant, curteous and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and any requests or observations made to them were actioned there and then without question or fuss. Given the hotel's diverse clientel, I think it is testament to the ethos and management of the OGH, that they seem able to create an atmosphere where everyone, whatever the group dymanics or reason for their visit, is made to feel comfortable and at ease. We had 3 rooms, all in the suite or refubished category, and if you are booking for a special occasion and want something luxurious I would definitely recommend splashing out if you can. They are beautiful. Requesting a room with a view and or balcony is also advisable. Food in the Hotel, whatever we ordered and wherever we chose to have it, was excellent as was the service. Lot's of nice little touches - complimentary sweetie jars for the children, evening turn down service, our rooms were generally serviced whilst we were having b'fast, boardgames in the lounge, complimentary papers, umberellas, chocolates........... As I had advised the front desk that we were there for a special occasion we were presented with complimentary champagne and fruit platter with handwritten card aknowledging the celebration. We didn't use the Spa, but it looked fab. No indoor pool, but outside pool was set at tropical temperature - my daughter swam in the rain!!
This Hotel could be perfect, whatever hotel experience you're looking for.

Stayed at this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary and were greeted with a bottle of champagne and fruit in our room. Beautiful decoration and attentive service was second to none. Ate in the Brasserie one evening and it was wonderful. All in all nothing was too much trouble for the staff in all areas of the otel and would love to stay there again.

We spent just three nights at the OGH after an absence of about fifteen years. The new owners have plainly spared little expense in rejuvenating this old gem. The public rooms are beautifully furnished and generate an air of calm. We dined out but noticed that the prices in the two-rosette restaurant are high. The brasserie prices looked much more manageable and, judging by the splendid breakfasts and lunchtime snacks, is of high standard. Our bedroom (312) was of the basic variety (there is a wide choice) and was small but splendidly fitted and furnished. The bathroom was brand-nrew and immacuilate. There's an excellent gym and spa. Kindly staff abound. We paid £480 for three nights and felt we had good value. Just one moan - the outdoor pool is small with too few loungers for the number of guests. We arrived at lunchtime on a lovely sunny day, just wanting to lie and read. There was a body or a towel on every lounger. The managements have promised to seek to address this.

This was a wonderful hotel to stay in - nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were all extremely courteous and went the extra mile on everything. Even though the hotel is more for adults than children, the hotel spa was luxurious and welcomed well-behaved children and the staff were wonderful with our 9 and 11 year old boys. The outdoor swimming pool was cold but set in lovely gardens. Parking was very tight around the back of the hotel but it was in a fantastic location in the heart of St Peter Port. In our eyes, this hotel totally deserves 5 stars.

I can only say what a wonderful weekend we had. Your staff are truly second to none.

We dined in both restaurants and both were lovely.

Well done to you and your staff and we have recommended you to all our friends and family.

We most certainly will not be staying anywhere else when we come back to Guernsey. This was my first time to Guernsey and I loved it.

Spa was lovely, pool area relaxing and really everything was perfect .

Pleasant and friendly staff, well trained, lovely garden for breakfast, with great views to Herm, nice Brasserie for dinner (didn't make Governors- saving up), heated outdoor pool with comfy loungers, fine Spa room and steamroom/gym/sauna, close to town for shopping and further good restaurants plus all the transport you could want for sightseeing! Just like to say what a wonderful time we had on our recent stay at the OGH. The staff were wonderfully attentive. We arrived in the morning , knowing that we would be too early to book into our suite. No problem! We were taken care of. Harry - Guest Relations took us for morning coffee and stayed to chat a while. We had chosen to stay at the OGH for our 35th Wedding Anniversary and the staff in every department of the Hotel made our stay extremely memorable. Nothing was too much trouble and always came with a smile. We will certainly stay there on our next visit.

Although we had stopped at other Red Carnation hotels before, we had never stopped at the Old Government House in Guernsey. It was an absolute delight and we will readily go back as soon as possible to ensure the excellent standards they have set are being maintained!

We travelled with my 82 year old mother who had one of the refurbished King rooms and we had a suite. My wife loved the room quality and the attentive service of all of the staff. Rarely do you find a hotel where all the staff (without exception) are so obliging and helpful.

We will unreservedly not hesitate to recommend the Old Government House to our friends and business colleagues.

Tagged a stay in this hotel on the end of a trip to see my sister. Had had a bit of a torrid time on Guernsey with rubbish weather and shredding two tyres on the granite which seems to be lurking on every road!! Fancied a bit of pampering so thought a stay at the OGH hotel would help us go home on a high! When we arrived, the staff could not be more helpful. The Concierge staff were absolutely delightful and my two year old was spoilt rotten and frankly started to turn into a bit of a diva! The hotel itself is beautiful with a real old world charm. It was like stepping back in time and just what I needed after a stressful week. The food in the brasserie was great except we hadn't booked and so had to sit in the lounge area which took the gloss off of it a bit. The highlight for me though was probably the afternoon tea. Gorgeous little cakes and pastries served with a tea of your choice. The sun finally came out on our final day so we got to spend some time in the lovely warm pool and relax on the sun loungers.
The only thing I would do differently next time is maybe request a room that didn't overlook the town. It was quite noisy on the Saturday night with the late night drinkers and there were the crazy Guernsey 4am bin collections which woke us up on both nights!
All in all though we had a fabulous time and are looking forward to a future visit.

Just had a lovely 9 day break in this superb hotel. Excellent service in all counts from very friendly and efficient staff. Food was really good from breakfast to afternoon tea to dinner. Room was spaceous, clean and tastefully furnished with a huge double bed.
My wife and I were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary and we received a complimentary bottle of champagne with a plate of fresh fruit and chocolate sauce served to us in our room just after we had arrived. A lovely gesture.
If I have one critism it is the limited space round the pool although we always managed to get a sunbed to relax on with a nice cold beer from the bar and enjoy the late afternoon sun after a days sightseeing.
