Nice touch by the OGH last week, I received a room upgrade and a nice gift for International Women's Day. They even arranged a gift for my male colleague's daughter. When we got stuck for an additional night, thanks to the weather, they made sure we were well looked after and even provided a meeting room so we could work.

We had a four day stay here, arrived early on Friday before the room was ready but were made welcome with a coffee. Hotel offered valet parking and made everything about our trip so easy. The room was beautiful - understated elegance. We ate at the restaurant on two nights as the food and service were wonderful. Also tried the spa which again was great. Would definitely go back.

A bit disappointed in our room initially but ignored the invetable initial attempt to up sell. The room was small and a bit cramped but had all the amenities expected...we thought. In evening we tried the TV and it wouldn't work, we went for a drink and the duty manager said he'd 'fixed it and left it on' should have realised that meant...I've fiddled with it and managed to get it going but it's not fixed...don't switch it off ...as you won't be able to turn it on again! The bed was very hard.
Anyway, the service was excellent, the food, cocktails etc were not cheap obviously, but again excellent.
Next evening same scenario with TV..we can't switch it on, the younger assistant manager also cannot switch it on (attempts require fiddling with a box in a cramped space behind tv.. which he knows, so clearly this is an ongoing issue)..this is not a 5 star room as it has a broken TV for a 3 night stay in somewhat rainy March, you get a working to in every basic hotel. For goodness sake OGH, buy an another telly for this room!!!
This member of staff sensibly and swiftly found us a different room, which had a TV (and more comfortable bed) but this was much more of a palaver than it would have been to move on our first night, which clearly should have been done.
So full marks to the young dark haired, very hard working, assistant who sorted us out but low marks for putting us in a poor room with broken TV when the hotel was not even that busy....
Apart from that faultless service and lovely food so have still scored service as excellent, and would recommend!

The room was ok, but nothing special, I was expecting something larger and a bit more impressive for the money.
Breakfast was pretty small, and the service seemed to take forever.

I wanted this hotel to be amazing, but it didn't do anything to wow me.

We recently stayed for 3 nights as a quiet getaway and the hotel far exceeded our expectations. The staff went way beyond what was expected with great attention to detail. The food was excellent. The suite we had was excellent with great views, albeit a little tired..
We will certainly return soon.
Most visitor attractions are not open till after Easter but we still found lots to do.

We arrived very early and staff were preparing our room well in advance of the usual check in time. We were greeted by very friendly front-of-house staff and invited to take tea in the lounge whilst we waited. During our three night stay, we ate in the Brasserie, enjoyed Afternoon Tea, used the gym, sauna etc and had a spa treatment. The staff were proud of their hotel and nothing was too much trouble, willing to go above and beyond to ensure our stay was the best it could be. We highly recommend the OGH.

Charming room. before the trip the staff asked me what i w would need in the room, neck support pillow, etc + an executive car transfer from the airport. dedicated staff help me to find my place of meeting arranging taxi for me, suggesting places to visit. here you are not a room number! i forgot the cable of my computer's hard disk and they kindly mail it to my home.

I travelled back to Guernsey for a long overdue reunion with my very good friends. I decided to book my friend and I into OGH as this place held a certain nostalgia for us. Upon arrival the room was not ready, it was mid morning so I was surprised, but I took a seat as requested, I was pretty much the only patron and no one came to offer me a drink or give me an update on the room. I had to chase several times for either, one of the biggest challenges was to find someone.

The room was ok but not the standard I would expect. I used the spa which was good, the lady who did my treatments was very good. The service we had from their long serving head of customer relations was excellent as we always remembered. It was tennerfest (an excellent time to sample the delicious fayre that the island has to offer) the menu offered by OGH was rather below par, particularly when compared to the other exciting menus on offer across the island.

I must admit that breakfast was excellent and some of the staff, those who typically had worked on cruise ships prior to taking the position, performed well.

The location is really great, being a short walk from the hotel into St Peter Port. The grounds are beautiful and on a summers day sitting outside is simply marvellous.

Red Carnation have really done nothing to enhance this property and if anything the soul of the place seems to have been a casualty of their renovation. I'll be returning to Guernsey but sadly not to the OGH.

I use they hotel regularly for business; it works well. The food (breakfast) is excellent, the staff pleasant and the rooms - if not the largest in the business - are very well appointed and full of charm. I like the place because it combines a sense of history with the practicalities of 21st business life.

The old country manor feeling in the heart of St. Peter Port is attractive but the real plus for me is the personal touch from each and every team member! They are polite, friendly, helpful and they really care. I'm sure they get good training but they all have natural ability and are genuinely great people. The food and wine (I always stick with the Finlayson's) is fantastic with a great choice of starters, mains and deserts (the honeycomb ice-cream a personal favourite). The rooms are large, extremely comfortable and top quality beds and bedding ensuring a dreamy sleep. Great gym too. Currently in a sister hotel in London (Chesterfield in Mayfair) and like the OGH and the Duke of Richmond in Guernsey, the service is perfect and a reflection on how well the Red Carnation group choose great people across their locations! Thank you.

Visited the hotel twice for drinks. Harry's Bar is the place to be. A good view looking out over St Peter Port. An excellent offer of wines, spirits and other beverages. The drinks are served in quality glass ware by attentive but not intrusive staff with the drinks accompanied by nibbles that you don't see in too many places. The furnishings are comfortable and add to the over all enjoyment. The hotel was having refurbishments but there was no obvious discomfort

The new head chef Simon Mackenzie has made strides to put the OGH restaurant back on the map. We were treated to a true gastronomic feast when we visited and the chef even came to introduce himself to our guest

Gone are the horrid pink and green tablecloths and replaced with white linen ..... a small change but it now has a fresh look and the restaurant is undergoing some other changes soon so that should be nice

The service was great, the food was fantastic and our guest was extremely impressed with the choice of menu .... which we left to the chef so each course was a surprise

You will not be disappointed but best to book as it was pretty busy ..... and on a school night too!!!

Well done Simon.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a conference event over the weekend and we were accommodated at the OGH Hotel. The hotel is only a short stroll from the harbour and high street.
From the moment of arrival to departure you are enveloped in 5 star luxury. The room had a lovely view of the green and can only be described as a suite. Access to the room on the third floor ( the hotel is rather a warren of levels and wings) however was only via multiple stairs so some bedrooms are not suitable for those with accessibility issues. My hale and hearty self however was not daunted and the upper wing was very quiet. The beds are super king size with lovely monogrammed cotton linen sheets. The bathrooms are generous however the water pressure in the shower could have been stronger. This is a niggle but a powerful shower adds to real 5 star luxury experience. Service quality was excellent particularly in the restaurant with a real warmth and generosity displayed to guests. Food was scrumptious and very fresh. As a regular hotel stayer I have no hesitation in giving this a 5 star but my only negative from the whole experience was the opening and closing times of the Gym and Spa on a Saturday and Sunday (9am-6pm). As a business user I would have liked to have done a workout either early or late and when I did go down at 5pm was constantly reminded about closure as being prior to 6pm to give time to undertake close down activities. On Sunday morning I had to go out for a run along the harbour as the Gym was not available which was lovely but it would have been even better if I could have had access to the spa after before breakfast. Opening times and the questionable need for full-time staffing supervision in the spa for guests and members at weekends may be an area to review in this 5 star hotel. Apart from that and a set of mislaid glasses in my room/restaurant I cannot praise this lovely hotel enough.

Well ! This is an amazing traditional hotel that oozes charm and sophistication and that almost has it all! fabulous rooms, great location, service, attention to detail, fantastic food, on site spa and the best reception staff ever, where nothing is too much trouble.
Stayed for one night and upgraded to a sea view room with a balcony and well worth every penny, what an amazing view! We had treatments in the spa and the service was spot on. We opted for dinner in the Brassiere and this was not disappointing as the food was to die for and I have to say I am extremely fussy, so my complements go to the excellent chef.
Overall a fabulous hotel which I have given five stars to, but be warned there is a down side as you need to pre book the restaurants and more specifically afternoon tea as they cater, it would seem at weekends mostly for outside cliental and therefore when you come down for a table you're pushed out of the comfortable lounge area, then out of the brassiere and eventually end up at the bar. Effectively from one room to another whilst they inform you that even though your hotel guests, you should of booked as they're are full up! You Walk past various areas with the tables beautifully set, with champagne glasses, all ready for tea and the most upsetting thing is there's hardly anyone at the tables, yet you're eventually found a little un-set table where you're made to feel very awkward and told that really you should've been there at all without a booking. Not really appropriate behaviour for a five star property that your a guest in and spent hundreds of pounds at the property in just the one night. Something I personally think that makes it all a little bit worse is that the gentleman serving us appeared to be in charge, so one would presume he was actually the restaurant manager and not a waiter so he should of known better!
Its a shame as if it was not for that I would of given the hotel perfect.

So on Saturday 25th July I went all out to surprise Jo my girlfriend and I have to say a MASSIVE thank you to Andrew & the team at the OGH for the most romantic and wonderful evening.

Jo was collected by the concierge at the airport with no idea what was going on. On arrival at the hotel she was greeted at reception with a glass of Prosecco. Jo was taken to the Herm Suite which is just amazing, words cannot do it justice.

I left a card for her to celebrate our 5yr anniversary along with her favourite flowers, some clothes and a few other surprises. In the card was a note that I was in the bar so after Jo got ready she came down where I was waiting with a bottle of Prosecco and a chain and pendent as an anniversary present.

We then went through to the Crown Bar for a gin experience which was the first we'd ever done and was great fun trying three types with a small curry in home made bread which was gorgeous.

We then went through to the Brasserie and had a fantastic meal and lovely service. We then retired to the room which had a romantic turn down with rose petals on the 4 post bed, Prosecco and chocolate covered strawberries on a plate piped with the word 'Love'. As Jo was looking at the dish I got down on one knee, pulled out a ring and asked the big question. Jo was so surprised I had to ask twice but we are pleased to announce we did indeed get engaged.

In the morning at breakfast the surprises continued as we were given two glasses of champagne and used the wonderful health suite.

The OGH team without exception were fantastic and those memories will be with us forever.

I have stayed here a number of times now, all for business. The staff are attentive as always, and the rooms are great. I think I have only had one 'ok' room.
The bar has a great selection of local, European, and far away drinks to choose from.
Its ideal for our trips to Guernsey due to its location between the town of St. Peter Port, and our office. The town itself is a very short walk down the hill, and there is a great selection of restaurants to pick from. In the busy season, I do recommend getting the hotel to book ahead for you.

From handing the car keys to the valet to park the car, to eating one of the most delightful meals we've had in ages, elegance is the word that comes to mind.

A compact yet lovely, comfortable, quiet room; a bathroom with a large bath (and flannels - great for a wet-shaver like me); real coffee and fresh milk on request from room service (just perfect); and an unexpectedly exciting dining experience.

The whole building oozes elegance and service. Delightful.

Great weekend made special by the facilities and Andi the most efficient and pleasant House Manager I have come across.
Magnificent views from the room made better by wakening to with sunrise over Herm & Sark. The Whatever/Whenever button on the phone sums it up...they deliver on this.

To all the staff at the Old Government House.
In the first instance, I would like to offer my apologies for not writing this review upon my return from a most relaxing short vacation at the Old Government House in Guernsey. I am certain, we all are aware of the pressures of work and how this dictates time and this is no different. It goes without stating the obvious that our stay at the Old Government House was one of total relaxation and enjoyment.

On arriving at the Old Government House we were met by Andi, the front of house manager and several staff who were there to greet us. Immediately, as the doors were open from a taxi, staff were there to assist with our luggage after a rather bumpy flight to Guernsey. The luggage was then transported as if magically to our room. Andi, welcomed us to the hotel and following the normal completion of all the forms we were shown to our room by a very pleasant and kind gentleman by the name of Vincent. The room was exceptional with a view over St Peter Port harbour that was truly inspirational. Andi, the front of house manager, was very perceptive and realised that this occasion, of my birthday, was quite special and therefore the room was equally distinctive.

The room, which had a balcony enabled a panoramic view over the harbour which in the evening incorporated the amazing lights on the Castle Cornet, making the feeling of being somewhere really exclusive, even better. As this was a short break we, unfortunately, could only stay three nights, hence the reason for staying in St Peter Port as we would be near all the amenities that the capital had to offer. The situation of the Old Government House makes it absolutely perfect for this short break with the shops only a very short walk away as soon as you exit the hotel. The Old Government House, itself, is absolutely amazing, from the point you enter the main door all the staff are so welcoming, there is a general feel of great cohesion. All the staff in the Old Government House appeared to work so well together and the staff that we met were just exceptional, with a lead such as Andi, a perfect role model to follow.

I do not feel it is necessary to write anything about the room we stayed in except we were in awe of the space and view. The website for the Old Government House includes many pictures of the variety of rooms available, of which all are impeccable and to see them first hand is a delight. It must be said however, that this is the centre of St Peter Port and as such can be quite noisy. Our room on this occasion and at this time of year was amazingly quiet and helped with the relaxation that was required. It would go without writing that in a hotel such as this one you would expect the food to be impeccable. Both my wife and I found the food to be quite exquisite and certainly enough, quantity wise, to satisfy the heartiest of people. The carefully selected culinary cuisine is a credit to the chef and the staff who prepare this. The presentation of all the food was exceptional and something to be marvelled over. It was not only the presentation of the food, but it was also the way that this was served at the table. There was great care and sensitivity to ensure that the whole dining experience was something of a gastronomic delight, quite extraordinarily wonderful. This includes, the selection of food for breakfast, evening meals and room service, all of which both my wife and I were overwhelmed with by the quality and presentation.

On the first evening we had room service, again, impeccable. On the two evenings we ate in the hotel there was a pianist, Paul Tongs, who played some of the most amazing accompaniment to set the scene for a really relaxing evening of gourmet dishes and magical musical entertainment, this made our stay at the Old Government House even more special than what it was. Even the staff in the Spa, after I had talked with them, were able to work their magic on my wife’s hands, massaging these and painting the nails with care and precision. It cannot go without writing, this short break at the Old Government House was an incredibly memorable time made even more unsurpassed by the staff in the hotel. Gabrielle, Sharon and Sharon’s husband, whose name eludes me at this moment in time, my apologies, were just three of the people along with Vincent, who made our stay particularly welcoming. With Andi as a lead and the role model she is, it is not surprising that all the staff working in the Old Government House are as sensitive and caring as they are. It is as if everyone who is a guest in the hotel is welcomed and treated with individual care and expertise. Thank you for making our short break with you the exceptional time it was. Your time and attention to detail is unrivalled, thank you.

Had a wonderful overnight stay at this hotel. We were given a free upgrade on our room which was beautiful. Our three course meal was great too. We also made use of the spa facilities too. A great relaxing stay!

The OGH is a sister hotel to the Duke of Richmond. It's conveniently located in the centre of St Peter Port and everything is within walking distance. It has a very traditional feel to the decor a bit like being transported into a Miss Marple novel. The room was good and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast service could have been a little quicker which is why I have deducted a point off the rating. Worth staying.

40th Anniversaryweekend. From the moment we walked through the door our stay became magical.
Andi greeted us at reception and gave us keys to our superb, perfectly clean king size bedroom. She looked after us beautifully throughout our stay.
Later during the stay we met Garath the assistant manager who made us very welcome and ensured our stay had everything we could have hoped for.
We had room service with perfect sandwiches, we had afternoon tea also superb.
A great breakfast and on our anniversary a complementary glass of champagne .
We had dinner in the Brasserie which actually is a very nice restaurant and the meal was absolutely fantastic. My wife thought it one of the nicest she had ever ate.
Spa visit had all we needed.
We Then met the manager Mr Andrew Chantrell and told him how we felt about our stay and we were once again treated like VIP's. All round brilliant weekend.would highly, highly recommend and we would love to come during the summer to take advantage of the alfresco dining and pool. Not only the Best in Guernsey but I would suggest one of the best anywhere. Wrighty57

The room the food the staff, everything was just for the guest's enjoyment. I could not fault it in any way. It was a little expensive for 3 of us with dinner, bed and breakfast and one being a child but we definitely got value for money.

Very nice location and lovely place. Although decoration was not my style, it was very comfortable and very well maintained.

Extremely clean (they even disinfected the TV remote!) and they have lots of details to pamper you in the room, including great bathroom amenities.

Breakfast was very good and the restaurant in general was good.

I definitely recommend this hotel.

This location is a return for our dear friend, who celebrated a milestone birthday during our stay. From the moment we arrived, through every moment of our stay, service was exquisite.

The hotel accomodated us for large gatherings, a fabulous birthday dinner, a even more fabulous wine testing paring and whiskey tasking from the famous David (top notch!!)

The hotel property was gorgeously decorated for Christmas and with the outmost attention to detail. The room was beautiful with great bathroom amenities. Very lovely.

Great memorable stay!!
