After more than 40 years of defending and supporting the rights of disabled people, an independent group of volunteers, The Eastbourne Access Group will become part of Possability People, a Sussex based charity that supports disabled people.
Possability People will take over the administration and on-going campaigns of the Access Group in Eastbourne and surrounding areas, whilst upholding the vision and principles encompassed in the Access Group's Charter of 2021.
Access is always the problem; disability isn't, and that is increasingly evident in this day and age where councils and their staff, with no effective training in disability discrimination and equality are implementing plans that ignore the rights of disabled people. By becoming part of Possability People, our vision is that the importance of including the needs of disabled people in plans for the town is done at the outset of planning, rather than as an afterthought or not at all. As it is said more and more: ‘nothing about us without us’.

Eastbourne Access Group have a long and successful history of making positive changes for disabled people in Eastbourne. They have a strong and well respected voice which always brings the needs of disabled people into sharp focus.
We hope that by providing support under the Possability People umbrella, we can amplify that voice so more people and organisations are aware of how crucial it is to involve and include disabled people in planning and delivering services which are truly accessible.
The Eastbourne Access Group 's A.G.M. is on Monday 21st November at 10.30a.m via Zoom. Disabled People, Carers and anyone with an interest in the barriers that continually confront disabled people living with physical, learning or mental health impairments are invited to join us.
