Our MSFL team will be looking to build on last week’s impressive 5-1 league victory with Ashurst Wood II this week’s challengers visiting the sports park. The two sides met on the opening day of the season when Josh Kyte and Connor Sullivan scored in the first half which turned out to be enough to earn rangers a 2-0 win. Since that day, Ashurst Wood have suffered a further NINE straight defeats which has also seen them crash out of two cups at the hands of Bolney Rovers (2-1) and AFC Hurtspierpoint (6-0).

Their leagues form has been just as woeful with 2 more home defeats following on from the opening day when Rotherfield II (5-1) and Danehill (5-2) secured maximum points on their travels. Three straight away defeats soon followed when they travelled to DCK Copthorne IV (8-1), Copthorne IV (2-1) and Ansty Sports and Social II (7-1). They did manage to push Keymer close at Ashurst Wood Rec only for a late goal by a Keymer substitute denying them their first point of the season (2-1), while normal service was seemingly resumed a week later when they succumbed to a 9-1 defeat at Framfield and Blackboys United II. This week’s visitors sit at the bottom of the division 6 table with their form reading: P8 W0 D0 F8 A40 Pts0. Their top scorer is Russell Swingler who has netted three league goals so far this season.

After last weeks important league victory which secured a club record tenth straight win, Eastbourne Rangers ESFL side turn their attention to the Wisden Sports Challenge Cup quarter final this week when they welcome fellow division 2 outfit Wittersham to the sports park. The two sides locked horns in the league at the end of September where goals from Sean Hardie, Jamie Strong and a brace from Ben Jesson gave rangers a deserved 4-2 victory in a feisty affair.

Since then, Wittersham have had a mixed bag of results which has seen them pick up 6 points from a possible 12 which sees them sit third in the league table. Their current league form reads: P8 W4 D1 L3 F27 A22 Pts13 and their top scorer is player manager Lee Keeler on 4 goals.

Two successive league defeats saw Wittersham lose 4-2 at Herstmonceux, while 2 weeks later their visit to Pebsham Sibex was unrewarding when the home side recorded a surprise 6-2 victory. Wittersham then secured 2 home wins in the league beating Catsfield (4-1) and Northiam (3-1). These league wins sandwiched a heavy defeat for this weeks visitors at the hands on division threes AFC Hastings with AFC recording a decent 8-1 victory in the Hastings FA Junior Cup.

Wittersham made it through to the quarter final of the Wisden Sports Challenge cup but needed extra time to see off a plucky Northiam side 3-1 when the score was level 1-1 after 90 minutes.

This quarter final will definitely go ahead no matter the weather as the management team have booked the 3G at the sports park as back up should the grass pitches be unfit for use.

Good luck to both teams, all support for both games very welcome.
