The Grand is a beautiful hotel both inside and out. It oozes old world glamour with a service level which is second to none. From the moment we stopped the car at the door the relaxation began, the car was emptied, bags were taken to our suite, car was parked all done whilst we were having tea and pastries in the lounge.
Attention to detail is excellent. We felt very welcomed by all the staff. Dinner in both restaurants was very good, we had the tasting menu in the Mirabelle restaurant it was divine and a fab experience. Service was sublime.

I had the 1 hour Grand facial in the spa, it was lovely, so relaxing and my skin felt so good. We will definitely return to the Grand.

All the staff were fantastic and very helpful. The room was a bit small.
Breakfast was good and the hotel in general beautiful.
Our main memory is of the staff and that will bring us back to the hotel again.
Thank you.

This is a proper old-fashioned (in a nice way) grand hotel, with helpful and friendly staff and cooked breakfast.

We stayed here last Saturday to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday.
Firstly, I cannot praise the Staff here enough. I travel all over the world on business and the staff at the Grand are second to none. On arrival our ar was taken and parked for us and our luggage taken straight to our room. The young lady on reception was very pleasant and efficient checking us in, even asking if we would like someone to direct us to our room.
The Deluxe room itself, 203 on the second floor was very well appointed with all you would expect for £240 per night. The one big downside was the view - it can only be described as shocking!! The room overlooked an open air internal space which resembled a Victorian Prison; filthy walls & windows, peeling paint and ironwork so corroded and rusty i'm surprised as an Engineer, it hadn't fallen off. I wish now we had paid bit extra for a "side sea view"
Anyway onwards! We booked a table in the Garden restaurant where again, the service was first class. However, I can only describe the food we had as slightly above average for a 5 star establishment. We both had Lobster and I had the scallops starter all from the a la carte menu and charged extra. We both had a pleasant sweet and coffee and the total bill including drinks was £162.
I have paid a similar amount in other hotels and the food blew my socks off; sadly, the Gardens offerings did not Just to be clear, our drinks for the evening were two glasses of Rose for my wife and I had two bottles of Becks Blue. For those not in the know, Becks Blue is a non-alcoholic beer which costs £3.50 for six bottles in Sainsburys and Tescos. At the Grand it is £5.15 per bottle; a little steep methinks for something that doesn't even get you drunk!
After a decent night sleep, we went down to the Garden again for breakfast and credit where its due, it was absolutely first class!! The choice and quality was excellent and all of the cooked ingredients were prepared perfectly. Also, the toast was amazing. How can toast be amazing you may ask but this was - lovely and crisp on the outside with just the right degree of moistness inside.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Grand and would definitely stay there again, only next time we would pay the extra for a "side sea view" and would eat out in the evening. We wouldnt want to miss that great breakfast though!!!

The Grand Hotel made us an offer we could not "refuse". A really good rate, even though we finished up in the" servants quarters", up in the "gods" still very comfortable, it is a lovely place to stay.

Have outlined my feelings about the Garden Restaurant below, I rather minded that we had to go out to each because of the Grand Hotel's strange charging system in the restaurant, we could have afforded it but we both felt that the charging for the food was unjust and unfair. The food was neuvo cuisine, not to everyone's taste.

From the moment you arrive, greeted by the doorman to the time you leave, the service is absolutely impeccable and definitely one of the highest recommendations from me out of the many hotels I've stayed in. Every single member of the team, whether front desk, restaurant, room service, housekeeping etc, was FANTASTIC and an absolute accolade to the whole experience of staying at the Grand. I love the old-fashioned aspect of the hotel's charm and its endearing qualities. If there were any negatives it is that some of the rooms are quite tired and need refurbishing/updating, especially to a 5 star standard, without losing the charm and dignity of its charm. I will definitely return for another stay in the future. I had a most enjoyable three days stay (initially 2 but I extended for a third). Thank you to all the staff who looked after me. Loved it.

Stayed for my husband's 50th. Lovely hotel have stayed before however felt the room looked a bit shabby this time for the price and quality that should be offered. Marks on the carpet were not very nice ;( Room service food was pretty awful but I got a refund so thats all good. Staff were lovely and helpful. Its a very old fashioned hotel so not for anyone wanting a modern feel but the staff are all very friendly and out to help. I would stay again.

First the good points, the location is perfect right on the sea front. Parking was excellent right at the front of the hotel entrance. The first impression you get is what a great building a very attractive historic style but in very good condition. When you enter the hotel the interior is equally impressive full of style immaculately clean and oozing class this goes for all the area's we went to. The staff were first class very polite helpful and professional. We ate in the Mirabelle Restaurant the food was worthy of five stars and so was the service, great waiters, great food. We made use of the pool area although a little small for the size of the hotel it was fine.
Now for the sour note, our room. I picked this hotel after looking at the web site, I showed my wife pictures of the type of room I had booked, she agreed the rooms looked lovely. When I opened the door to our room I saw the look of disappointment on my wife's face, I was stunned. It says on the web site the rooms average 30 square metres in size, this room was well under 20 sq mts I would estimate around 15 no more. It was tiny the bed was a small double (4ft 6in). The TV was smaller than my lap top and their was no satellite channels. There was not a safe in the room so we had no where to put valuable's like money, jewellery and my I pad. There was no ironing board or iron in the room and no air conditioning. Pictures on the web site show a deluxe room with inside view (not sea view) with three windows letting in plenty of light. the bed shown is at least King size, not a small double. To be honest I have stayed in 3 star hotels with far superior facilities and much bigger rooms. Showing pictures like this on the web site amounts to deception on a massive scale and should not be allowed. The room I had was No 111 the listed full price for this room is up to £280, had I been charged this amount I would have refused to pay and left the hotel, I actually would have been disappointed at paying around £80 for a room of this quality. My honest opinion of this hotel is it has 5 star public areas and 3 star rooms at best. What I will say is the room was like the rest of the hotel spotlessly clean and well looked after. I don't think I would return to stay at the hotel for fear of the room I may be dumped in.

Refurbished room, with all you could want, spotlessly clean and fantastic sea view. Lots of choice of food at breakfast. Efficient and cheerful staff who care about giving excellent service. Enjoyed the leisure club and outdoor pool, very clean and warm! We had a great weekend and would love to return.

We had a 2 night stay. Staff were extremely accommodating and could not do enough for us. Our room was a good size but felt "tired". Bed was softer than we like but ok.
Not cheap....but you get what you pay for I guess.

Amazing hotel! Staff were very polite and breakfast was very nice with lots of choice! The hotel is really grand and very impressed. Bar area is also really nice and so many cocktails. They were on the expensive side but worth it. Rooms are spacious and equipped with lots of tea/ coffee. Went for my birthday and loved it.

Upon arrival, we received a friendly greeting and our car was parked for us and our bags were taken to our room. I had pre-booked a disabled parking bay. Lovely greeting from the check-in staff and simple check-in procedure. This certainly is a "Grand Hotel" of massive proportions, and is beautifully kept. Our room on the first floor was large, clean and nicely furnished, including two high backed armchairs, a Flat screen TV, Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary spring water and a tower fan, if needed. The extra large super king sized bed later proved to be superbly comfortable. With regard to the breakfasts ... the selection offered was catering for everyone's taste. All selections were buffet style, generous and delicious. Service was cool, calm and efficient. Everything about this hotel is about guest satisfaction from the moment of arrival until checkout. Yes, we will be back and next time will sample the delights of the restaurant.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the grand hotel,it was for a works social/evening event, the overall look of the hotel is wonderful, but she is looking a bit tired here and there! Our room was ooverlooking the inner courtyard, let's just say the view wasn't the best, as ther wasn't one,and it looked very dirty out there too.The room was spotlessly clean, but really hot!The food we recieved throughout our stay was ok,not what I would call five star, have had better at lower star hotels, overall a nice stay, but very pricey for what you get,but the staff are lovely and welcoming.

This is just a first class hotel in every way. It is truly grand, the rooms are large, clean and very well appointed but what makes the Grand is the staff who are just superb.

Breakfast was excellent along with the service. We could not fault the Grand and will most definitely return, thank you so very much.

My wife and I and two friends stayed at The grand hotel again. We could not fault the service, food and presentation. From the minute you arrive the staff make you very welcome.

We stayed in two of the redecorated rooms and my only adverse comment is that the bed side lights and table lamp now have low energy bulbs fitted which makes the room darker at night so you cannot read. Hopefully, brighter bulbs may be fitted.

I feel that this hotel should be thought of as a grand old lady who nevertheless is extremely sprightly and is not ready to meet her maker for a long time yet. I say this as a result of adverse comments made by other reviewers who are unhappy with the bedroom fixtures and fittings and the general décor. When all said and done, the hotel was built in 1875 for a completely different market. A refurbishment in a more contemporary, clean and modern style would, in my mind, spoil the whole ambience. The décor should not come as a shock to anyone as the hotel’s own photographs make it quite clear how it is furnished. In any case whether you like the furnishings or not you must admit how comfortable the chairs are in the lounges and the restaurants.
As many others have said it is the staff that make the difference. To drive up and in no time at all find that your entire luggage has been unloaded, your car parked for you, check in is complete and a porter is ready to show you to your room. That is magical. From then on there always seemed to a member of staff ready to help you regardless of where you are in the building. Another plus that is overlooked is the turn down service. My wife and I would go down to dinner with the sun streaming into our room but on our return the lights would be on, the beds turned down and the hospitality tray had been restocked and the crockery washed.
I suffer from Coeliac Disease and I have no choice but to stick to a strict gluten-free diet. The kitchen catered for me at every stage. In the lounge I could choose any sandwich I fancied and it would be made with gluten-free bread. Similarly in the restaurant most of the dishes were gluten-free or some that were not were altered accordingly. We dined in both restaurants and enjoyed the different styles immensely.
Comment has also been made concerning the breakfast buffet. As far as cooked food is concerned, you do not have to use the buffet unless you are in a hurry. You can order exactly what you would like and it will be cooked freshly for you. Why anyone would order poached eggs and then use the buffet instead of ordering everything in one go seems a bit odd. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the fresh figs.
We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning.

A fine hotel, beautiful public rooms. Excellent staff, very helpful. Lovely position, parking available on site. Very good bar meal. Lovely breakfast. Poor dinner on the first night, much better on the second night. Indoor swimming pool. Outdoor heated swimming pool. Both most welcome.

I have stayed twice at this iconic Seafront Hotel. Once on business and once private, so I have experienced the busy September period as well as the calm January side of the hotel.

The staff and service is excellent and you get the real feeling of a traditional British seaside hotel. Service, staff and food are all 5 star but bare in mind that the hotel is traditional British and not to be compared with a modern 5 star luxury hotel experience in central London. The hotel has character and charm and we had a great experience here. Dinner was amazing in the Garden restaurant. The hotel also have great meeting facilities with a great beautiful ballroom for weddings or meetings. The Spa was a bit tired and could use a renovation but they do have a outdoor pool too.

The location is just perfect and if you are looking for a typical luxury English experience - this is it. Eastbound town is also a very cute with a very busy bandstand in the summer months with live music. During the winter months the town is very quiet.

Came here for breakfast. We waited for 15 minutes but no one came to offer us a menu or take our order. We got our own menu, but still weren't approached! I have been here before and the service is usually excellent so this time it was disappointing. I'd recommend coming here on sunny days as the terrace is peaceful and you do feel as though you're on holiday. However, this time we visited, we walked out as we got bored of waiting indefinitely to be served!

I live close to Eastbourne, so often pass this iconic seafront hotel, but have never been inside. The opportunity arose when we went to celebrate an important family birthday with a large group of relatives. We stayed for two nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
It was a wonderful experience. Dinner on the first night was in the Mirabelle restaurant, the food was fantastic and the service was faultless. The second night we went to the garden restaurant and the service wasn't so good, but we were in no rush so it didn't matter. The food was worth waiting for...
We had a lovely room, large bright and comfortable at back of the hotel. (My mother was able to have a disabled room on the ground floor.)
I just loved the building, it really is grand. A beautiful interior with lovely leaded light windows. I remember many years ago they used to do tours of the building, and i really wish i had been, i would love to see more of it. Will they ever do that again, i wonder? If they do, i will be first in the queue!

Just a 1 night stay at this magnificent hotel. Everything was perfect, the suite with sea views was very comfortable complete with Nespresso coffee machine and Moulton & Brown toiletries. We had the 7 course taster menu with wines chosen by the sommelier to complement the food, the food combinations were sometimes not obvious but absolutely delicious all the same, the meal was rounded off with a personalised birthday cake & candle. The staff and service levels were first class and the whole experience was wholly memorable, the hotel is rightly called "Grand"

My 3 yr old Son wanted to go on holiday for my Husband was away for work on Easter. We booked last min and were thoroughly welcomed by each and every staff at The Grand. The room was fabulous and there's so much to see and do walking distance to the Hotel. Turn down service for kids (milk and cookie) and even kiddy bathrobes was fabulous. There was a play room which my son enjoyed. One of those places where i would love to take the train to and spend a night.
