We had a pleasant stay. The hotel is, indeed, and very traditional and classic. The staff is superior. Some rooms and hallways are a little ragged and there are creaky floors and occasional strange noises but this is also to be expected in an older hotel. Breakfast is excellent and can be served al a carte, buffet or room service - your choice. Need to mention the staff again. Every single person we interacted with was friendly, responsive and wonderful. Congrats.

Room very hot? Very disappointing spa. Looks tired and in need of updating. Treatment room cold and un inviting. Bar staff very attentive along with doorman. When asked about desserts Staff replied baked alaska made her sick (probably not words l would use to recommend a dessert)

I booked this luxury hotel and spa break for my Mum's birthday treat and I was happy to find a great package deal online for a room including breakfast, evening meal, spa treatment, use of the facilities and also allowed me to bring my pet labrador! The Grand Hotel is set in a beautiful location within easy access to the beach, pubs, shops and the pier in Eastbourne.

Our unexpected stay at this lovely hotel was a delight. The friendly and helpful staff are exceptional and our little dog was made to feel very welcome. Having been 'put up' at short notice, we shall definitely be returning.

Great place with old world charm! The views from the room were amazing. There was a slight problem with initial cleanliness but the staff fixed this quickly and were very efficient. All in a great place for a quick trip out from London

The atmosphere, comfortable surroundings, view from the room and friendly staff all combine to provide a very enjoyable and relaxing experience. For those who value the sea view it is important to realise that the extent of the view can vary from room to room. Breakfast in the Garden Restaurant and dinner in the Mirabelle were very enjoyable occasions, enhanced by staff who were very helpful yet not intrusive. The quality of the food was excellent and the hotel seemed to exude an atmosphere of tranquillity and comfort. Step outside the hotel to benefit from the proximity of the sea front and bracing walks or the more challenging stroll to Beachy Head and Birling Gap. We are looking forward to our next visit.

2nd visit to hotel with my son during half term. Good offer as my son went free as he is 12. Arrival good and managed to park car easily. Bags taken to room and although room was basic it was very nice. Couple small cans of drink, luxury toiletries and a good selection of tea/coffee. I would have liked another bath robe as only one in the room and there was 2 of us staying. The swimming pool is good size and with the jacuzzi and sauna is a nice area to relax. You can relax on the loungers and order drinks if you wish. The lockers take £1 so you can lock away your belongings. The breakfast was very nice with a good selection. Staff attentive. Decor is very opulent. Location is great as opposite the sea so if you can affordable a sea facing room it would be perfect. I look forward to staying again

Just returned from a family weekend away at The Grand.....

The Pros;
Eastbourne is fab for a family weekend away. Hotel location is superb. Hotel facilities are good. Reception and Front of House staff are all really lovely, especially with the children - which is very much appreciated. Leisure facility is looking a bit tired - but still a nice treat and great that it welcomes kids. Hotel is clean and generally well maintained. Breakfast was lovely - although I’m not sure why fried eggs need to be ordered separately, which is just a faff really!

The Cons;
Dining options were very limited for us. The Family Dining option (where food is included for kids and adults pay) was mediocre. I felt so sorry for our children, who like to eat nice food but were left with over cooked fish goujons, chips, sausage and pasta (all of which looked to have been hanging around the buffet for some time). They ended up eating my meal....whilst I ate theirs!

Finally - the drinks are ridiculously expensive!!!!! £18 for a cocktail and £78 for a mediocre bottle of Shiraz. We live in London and don’t mind paying for good food / wine. But in the end we just felt we were getting taken advantage of - so on the second night we cancelled our table bookings (Family Dining for the kids and baby-sitter/Mirabelle for us) and headed out into Eastbourne for a much more enjoyable family experience!

As a group of 7, we chose to stay at The Grand Hotel, to celebrate the upcoming wedding of our friend and old Eastbournonian. As mentioned in many reviews, the concierge were outstanding. Check in was smooth and our first impressions of this delightful old building were wonderful. Many of us had treatments booked at the Spa, so as a group we headed down to the indoor pool and "health suite". What a disappointment. Lounging chairs insufficient in numbers by miles and very tired, mouldy and rotten walls, door frames and equipment. Only two jets of the Jacuzzi working. Very weird yellow, cigarette burn looking stains in the steam room which also came with horrid smell of drains. The bedroom I shared with the bride to be was tired and dark, the carpet worn. We didnt try and open the filthy dirty window, but as it looked over mould and what amounted to an ashtray, we decided to keep the curtains closed in the end. Inadequate lighting too!. We ate at the Mirabelle Restaurant where service impeccable; it really is a credit to the hotel. Breakfast in the Garden Room good but we waited 25 minutes to be brought a coffee. You could do so so much better.

I have long wanted to stay at the Grand. I love a big old English seaside hotel. With this in mind my husband booked me a belated birthday weekend.
When he phoned the Grand they were very helpful and recommended one of the penthouses which he booked. He also arranged for the Friday tour and cream tea and the murder mystery dinner on the Saturday. ( all over the phone).
Saturday afternoon we went for a drink in the bar before getting ready. Picking up a flyer we saw that it was black tie and cocktail dress. Despite phone calls to check our menu choices and 2 or 3 calls about room choice etc this had never been mentioned. It isn't on the poster advertising the event and to find it on the What's on at the Grand you had to download a separate leaflet. Nothing remotely obvious.
We had assumed smart casual and my husband had packed jeans. We live over a 100 miles away.
The receptionists reaction "Oh......". As always seems to be the case there was No one with authority to arrange refund or offer a solution.
It was agreed that we could have our meal in the restaurant with a £20 credit for wine. ( the price for a 3 course meal in the restaurant is £25 per person. We had paid £35 for the mystery evening).
However the restaurant was closed as they had 2 functions so we ate in solitary splendiditude. We still had to have our choices from the murder mystery evening meal which in no way matched the quality of what the restaurant offers. My main course of a pork and pepper stew was actually inedible.
What I will say is that I don't know how much they pay Rita in the restaurant but it's not enough! She did everything in her power to make our evening enjoyable with her warmth and friendliness and trying ( albeit failing) getting the kitchen to do us a better meal.
Feeling a bit isolated we repaired to the bar to finish our wine. Unfortunately Keppels bar was closed to residents for a private function but we were able to use the bar at reception and watch everyone in their finery.
Not the evening my husband had planned for us.
As well as the lovely Rita I would also like to compliment Catalina at breakfast who was also very friendly and welcoming.

Quality guaranteed. Sometimes over priced but not so much as to deter another visit. High quality food without fussy, pretentious, presentation. Great staff. Spacious accommodation. Location is perfect for walks along the seafront.

The staff here were all courteous, friendly and helpful although there needs to be more to avoid the amount of apologies that had to be offered by Reception and Restaurant Greeters (every morning) for the wait that I and others had to endure.
Breakfast was, as usual, very good for choice and quality.
The general décor of the hotel is getting tired and Room 304 in particular has sash windows that are rotting and the entire room was, again, what one can only describe as tired.
This hotel needs renaming as The 'Used To Be Grand' Eastbourne and it is a real shame that a hotel that is part of the Elite Hotels group is being allowed to deteriorate in this way.
The Grand Eastbourne used to be just that, Grand, but not anymore.
The only saving grace is that it is a Dog Friendly Hotel, and therefore falls into a category that I need to use. However, that is no justification for allowing this magnificent hotel to decline the way it is.

I took my daughter for her birthday. We got an upgrade on our room which was wonderful. The service from all the service was very good. My daughter has a facial at the spa which she loved. Everything was perfect and we would definitely go back.

We had a very enjoyable short stay at the Grand. The hotel is very impressive with a mixture of old world charm and modern facilities. Our room was large, very clean and well equipped. Breakfast was excellent with lots to choose from. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Although we had not prebooked parking, we were able park in the hotel car park each day.

Stayed as family this time round and the service was up to it's usual impeccable standard. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave the wonderful staff spoil you. The location and facilities of the hotel are amazing and this really is a throwback to traditional five star luxury but with all the mod cons! Will definitely be back soon.

Stayed here on a business seminar. Room was decent enough and clean. Toiletries from Molton Brown was a night touch. Means and service were good and the staff were always polite and attentive. Booked parking of which a blackboard is placed in front of your space so no one nicks it before you get there. Another nice touch. One day I nipped out and someone did take it but the car park attendant was very apologetic and found me something else suitable.

What a lovely place with genuinely nice, polite, well-trained staff. From arrival to departure I have been impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone who works here. I was travelling alone on a 2-day break for a well-deserved rest which was booked for me by my husband.

The room I was assigned was spacious and spotless. The beds are soft which is normally an issue for me but I slept soundly in crisp, comfortable sheets. Unfortunately I had to be moved for my 2nd night owing to the unacceptable noise created by the people in the room above me - this was done quickly and efficiently by staff.

Dinner in the restaurant was ok - it didn't impress me as much as I had hoped but then room service on the 2nd night was delicious.

I would recommend this lovely hotel- so nice to see genuine hospitality and in a lovely setting.

I have tonight returned from a 3 day stay at this wonderful hotel in Eastbourne. I cannot praise the staff enough. I was a little nervous staying on my own. I need not have worried at all! From the welcome at the front desk from SARAH, until my farewell today, I felt totally “at home”. Everyone was cheerful and kind. They really appear to enjoy the hotel too: it has a unique and special history. Long may it continue. I will be back......
The room was spotless and large. The bed was super comfy, everything worked easily, (tv, kettle, heating, shower etc.), and housekeeping was efficient and unobtrusive.
Breakfast provided anything you could wish for and my porridge was perfect. The outdoor pool is heated. What a bonus it was open in October! Upgrade the indoor pool area and you will have the perfect retreat. This was the first of what I hope will be regular visits for me. Cannot wait to book again.

We enjoyed a lovely night away by the sea at the Grand. The hotel really lives up to its name and all the staff were really attentive and friendly. Our children (4 and 5) really enjoyed the outdoor and indoor pools but unfortunately we didn’t get to use the kids club. I booked direct with the hotel and saved a lot instead of booking sites by opting for an executive room with two fold down beds for the kids instead of the more expensive junior suite. We still had plenty of room. The food was fantastic , both the included early family evening meal in the garden restaurant and breakfast .Most clientele were generally elderly but still the staff welcomed everyone including our young children. We wished we hadn’t got work the next day and could stay a few more nights !
