My husband and I went to Burlington for the third time in 6 years, it was Valentines weekend and also my husbands birthday so we had a double celebration.
On previous years we have had a nice sea view and room and this was what I expected, however the room must have been for a single person as it was the smallest on level 4 and we could not walk around the bed without knocking our legs on something.
The renovated bath and shower room were really nice but no heating in the bathroom as we were told it had been disconnected because it was a health and safety hazard (a radiator in a newly renovated bathroom a hazard?), anyway it was far too cold to have a shower or bath in so a quick wash was all I had, all the rooms on 4th floor were freezing and most of the residents there requested additional heating, it was nice but still the bathroom was cold especially on a windy wet day.
Don't go for room 414.
The food although it was good and served up by a very busy lady, took a long time to arrive because she had more tables than most (more staff please)

On a fairer note the food was acceptable and the entertainment was good although even if we got to the meal table at 6-30 and went straight to the entertainment hall there were no tables available in the main room.
Maybe you could put a row of tables down the middle like most Shearings do. Mark, the entertainer was a treasure, he was there on the two previous occasions and has always been the main reason for our visit as there is entertainment every night if not by professionals by him and he is just as good if not better.

All in all the staff were friendly and helpful and tried to assist when possible but if it had not have been for Mark our holiday would have been ruined by a room that was too small and a VERY cold bathroom.

My friends and I have just returned from a 5 day holiday at the Burlington Hotel in Eastbourne. This is a Shearings Hotel which is situated right opposite the pier. Town centre is only a short walk around the corner.
On our arrival there had been a mix up with our rooms but this was immediately sorted out and the rooms we had were excellent. This hotel has been refurbished and we could not fault the cleanliness of the hotel, food was good and plenty of choice all served by a very friendly and courteous waiter - Daniel. All other staff were equally pleasant and helpful.
The entertainment was a bit mixed. Unfortunately Mark (resident compare I think) was only there 2 nights as he had to go into hospital. Whilst he was there we had a quiz and bingo each evening along with an artist. On the remaining days there was no bingo - shame as top payout on previous evenings was £100!! Surely with the current use of bingo machines a replacement could have been found to run the bingo.
The only drawback we seem to find with Shearings coach trips is that you either get a driver who knows everything about where we are visiting or there are those who dont know a thing and dont seem to want to try and find out which, on occasions, leaves passengers not knowing where they are visiting or anything about the area. Unfortunately we had a driver from the latter. Definitely makes a difference to the holiday when it is made interesting for everyone.
We have now been on many Shearings Holidays all over the country, good and bad and would definitely say that this is the best hotel we have been to and would definitely return again.

We stayed for four nights as part of a Shearings' holiday deal. The hotel looks superb, right on the seafront near the pier. Luggage handled for us, delivered to the room. Ah, the room! Good points - very clean, plenty of hot water, clean & comfortable bedding. Rather on the small side but there was space to move round without being attacked by the furniture.
No so good points - the room was stiflingly hot! Yes, I know that some degree of warmth was welcome in mid-February, but this was silly: strange, too! The radiator was turned off and there were no exposed hot water pipes in the bedroom. The sash window was tightly closed. We called for help and a friendly handyman arrived with a jemmy and levered the window open. We slept with the window wide open for the rest of our stay. While we're discussing the window our view was restricted to a sombre black fire escape and its club of raucous seagulls. When the seagulls were off-duty a regiment of pigeons took over, shouting their heads off. All the birds were well fed and left copious droppings on our window ledge.
Meals were good - mainly. Breakfast was a little weak: we enjoy a continental coffee & croissant suits us well - but wasn't possible for some reason. Perhaps a serving table could be provided for those of us with modest tastes? Self-service would be fine. A warm basket of croissants and a pot of really excellent strong coffee? Please? Then no more waiting for 30 minutes for that essential first coffee of the day!
Lunch was fine - a selection of sandwiches, no problem.
Dinner was a surprise: change of menu every night; choice of meat/chicken/fish/veggie main course, decent starters, reasonable pudds. Far better than we expected. Wine a little overpriced - and, sadly, the wine-waiter missed us 2 nights out of four.
Our copy of the Guardian arrived on time, the packed lunch on our departure morning was good quality and, compared with Motorway diners, great value.
Would we go again? Certainly, but not to room 327!

Have to say that this type of hotel is why people love staying in the likes of Ibis/Premier Inn etc. At least with them you know what you're getting!

We booked a "Classic Double" room through booking.com - unfortunatelly, the room didn't actually match (or come close to) any pictures on the booking.com website ... or the hotels own website (Classic rooms weren't even featured on the Hotels website) probably because no matter how professional a photo was taken it couldn't make the room we had look good (we had room 107).

The bedding was torn, the curtains didn't fit the windows properly and let though loads of light, the two windows (actually double doors) in the room didn't close properly and left large gaps around the bottom and betwen them which had to be stuffed with toilet paper (because the tape the hotel had put over some of the gaps had dried up and fallen off long ago).

Full English Breakfast is included (they have it listed as full English anyway) - it consists of an egg, small (extremely overcooked) sausage, a small rasher of bacon, around two TEASPOONS of baked beans and a greasy hash brown about half the thickness of the ones you usually buy frozen (and there's toast and tea or coffee too).

The hotel is owned by Shearings (the coach holiday people) so they happily dump seniors there over night before taking them off somewhere else the following day - that is about this hotels level. Saying all of the above though - I do have to commend ALL of the staff we came into contact with - they are very helpful and friendly.

We only booked the one night and it wasn't expensive .... but for out of season Eastbourne, the price was on par with other hotels around the same area which looked a lot nicer - come on Shearings/Bay Hotels - we appreciate it's an old building but do up the Classic rooms to a decent standard or at least list/show them on your website so people can make choices before arrival.

Just stayed at the Burlington on a 5 day holiday with National Holidays. Our rooms was for 3 people (family room) very large room with single beds, and a adjoining single room. We had a sea view overlooking the pier. Lovely clean room, lots of hot water, tea & coffee making facilities . The food was good, and we had a nice waiter ( Francisco from Italy) entertainment could have been better. We was on the 2nd floor so could walk up the steps, but we had a friend less mobile who was on the 4th floor, and the lifts were always broken. Lifts certainly need attention. On the morning we were leaving we had to bring our cases down, while shearings got there cases brought down by the hotel staff who used the larger lift. There was only the small lift working which only takes 2 people and 2 cases. Everyone went in for breakfast at the same time, and the staff was over worked. Some coaches were leaving later than ours so it would have been better if the later coaches went in for breakfast 15 minutes later.
Good value for what we paid, and would recommend to friends.

I stayed at the Burlington for four nights with Shearings Holidays. My room was lovely, nice big, comfy bed and sea views from the side windows. Lots of hot water in the bathroom. The food was OK-- and sometimes the waiters were rushed, so the service could be erratic.
It was a short walk to the beach and the town shops.
The big let down was the lifts. They had two very small lifts to serve the customers and the staff and one of them was constantly breaking down. My room was on the 4th floor and I have mobility problems, so walking up was not an option. Please get new lifts installed or get a service lift for staff.

Stayed three nights / four days on a "Party Weekend" break.

Have to say that we had a very nice break and the BASIC price was excellent value for money. Good food, plenty of it and also well presented...plus, Dan, our waiter in the restaurant, was just great. Very good evening entertainment too. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

On the negative side.....we stayed in room 112 on the first floor, for which we had to pay an extra charge, as it was supposed to be an "upgrade". In fact, this room has no heating at all in the bathroom ! It also had a VERY poor radiator in the main bedroom, which gave out very little heat, so the room was always very chilly ! The bathroom heater apparently hasn't been working for some time and is not scheduled to be fixed until the summer months, when it's due to be drained and serviced ! Not sure when the main bedroom heater will be fixed, but with the current cold weather, it was extremely cold in there ! After a couple of days, we ultimately had to ask for a heater to be brought up to the room.

WHY was we charged for an upgrade, when it was known that the heating in room 112 wasn't working ?????

4 days surprise break for my wife, on her birthday, and my daughter.
On Tuesday afternoon Shearings told us that our allocated room was not available and we had been allocated a twin room and a single room and not a family room. My daughter cannot be left alone at night resulting in my wife and I not sharing the same bed for the first time in 43 years.
The hotel itself was very good and all the staff very friendly. Both rooms were clean and tidy although the twin did have an old fashion TV. The bath with shower would be difficult to use because of the high sides if you had mobility problems
The dining room was light and airy with plenty of space in between tables ( not always the same case in some hotels where you are packed in like sardines.
The food in general was good, sometimes not as hot as it should be, may be because the plates were cold. Soups/dishes always hot and very good.
Entertainment was standard fair but having seen Bobby Bennet's act before, including same jokes and routine was a let down.
Mark on the other hand was very good, certainly different to anyone we have seen.
Overall a nice break for the monies payed

My husband and I with family and friends (party of eight) spent four days and three nights at the Burlington Hotel over the New Year, and what a good time was had by all!
This hotel matched all our needs, superb location, being right on the seafront and very close to all the shops etc, the rooms were perfectly adequate for what we paid. Couldn't fault the food and the staff were brilliant,.
The only complaint I would have is because the hotel was full there was not enough room for everyone to watch the entertainment, so we stayed in the little cafe bar and made our own, but considering we had paid for entertainment this was really not good enough.
This is the third Shearings Festive New Year Break we have all done and find this is the same regarding the entertainment in all of the hotels we have stayed, but it has not put us off going again.
We had a lovely walk along the prom on News Years day and spent an hour listening to a rock band playing in the Bandstand, it was great watching people dressed to the hilt to keep out the cold, having a dance, young and old alike, brilliant.
If anyone is thinking of doing this trip, I would highly recommend this hotel and Eastbourne itself.

I was a little apprehensive about the bedroom as we chose to book a standard room but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was very comfortable and spacious, the beds were comfortable too. The service in the restaurant was very efficient and the food was tasty. I would recommend this hotel.

As both nervous travellers, i was so worried about the accommodation in particular. But this hotel exceeded all expectations. We had a twin room with a sea view. It was warm with very comfortable beds and low to the ground as requested. The food was excellent. I have severe food allergies and the menu for me had to be adapted quite a lot. This did not present any problems and the chef was superb. I could have anything i wanted with no qualms. One of the waitresses - Mariann was the best i have met in a very long time. Even though she was rushed off her feet she always managed to keep smiling. Although we did not manage to see the entertainment, the programme was good and varied. My husband has Alzheimers and as such needed to be seated in the restaurant by a window with the sea in sight - to keep him calm in a very crowded dining room. No problem, our allocated table was moved within minutes of arrival and again this did not present any problems. All staff were very polite, helpful and patient. We loved this hotel so much that the day we came home, we rang the hotel back and have booked again for 2016 - thanks Carla. Also thanks to Peter our driver - so very funny and again patient and very helpful.

This is our second time at the Burlington hotel Eastbourne and what a surprise when we arrived on our short weekend break with Shearings coach holidays.we was upgraded to a large sea view room 315 on the third floor which is easily reached by one of the two lifts.
The room was a bit tired but to complain about the beds were very comfortable and the room was nice and warm day and night.
The food at the hotel is as always very good and a wide selection for all different tastes the hotel does now offer meal extras at a small charge .
Entertainment is very good on all nights.
All the staff are very helpful and friendly and professional in their jobs and will go out of their way to sort out any problems if you manage to find any .
The trip out to Lewes was a nice experience but if you have health issues on climbing steep inclines Lewes could be a problem for you.
After Lewes we made our way to alfriston village its a very English style village.we would recommend the Burlington hotel to all .
Ps we had a lovely coach driver called sue and we all felt very safe.

We (my wife and I). We wanted a weekend away to bring in the new year that fell upon the burlington at Eastbourne (they were offering a party ). We arrived the 2nd of. January 2015} Friday night .our room was on the first floor (where I believe most of the others were as party was approx 80 of us) hotel is an old Victorian one but bought up to date where necessary-our room was right on the left side as you look from the front so we had great views of the grand parade with the pier almost opposite rooms simple decorated and simple furniture. But again great stuiation. So when it came to the bathroom or use of we did not complain because it was like stepping into a freezer lol. As the radiator was non existent so no baths then lol.(we did wash though hah) the food was plentiful and good quality no complaints here . now we come to what was on offer in the price

meant a trip out to two places (however the weather was sh--.) Sorry . the nights were good because Mark Snow (who this review is named after) was a great compare who made sure each one of us enjoyed what he had on offer -quiz-dancing-bingo-acts singing (by him) comedy great three days when we needed cheering up. To start 2015 well done Burlington and special thanks to mark snow whoo's mom and dad are pleased he is who he is (THIS MY IN JOKE MArk OK on this'd)

Lovely hotel in a great position on the prom. Nice large clean room well appointed. Tea coffee making facilities hairdryer etc. worth paying for the sea view. Only negative point the TV was ancient and only had 4 channels none of them very clear, needs replacing. Food also good but sometimes cold. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Bus stop virtually outside the hotel but shops just around the corner. Good hotel great value.

Just returned from our second visit to this hotel. Once again , not disappointed.
We traveled with Shearings, as usual, we had a very good journey down and arrived 4.30- just in time for a walk along the promenade.
Our room , 443, was the biggest we have had with Shearings. Twin beds, small table, two chairs decent furniture. Did not choose a sea view this time. We were very satisfied indeed.
You can always rely on loads of hot water, plenty of drinks bits and pieces in the room, and, as it was January , warmth!!
The menus were the usual choices, sometimes could have been a bit hotter , but no matter. All OK. The staff are excellent. Friendly, obliging and smiling.
The hotel is in a great spot.Right across from the pier and the bus stop. Also 10 mins walk from town.
Whats not to like??
Try it, you won't be disappointed.

went on a Nation Holiday coach holiday with friends . The Burlington Hotel is on the sea front next to the pier, and near to the shops and bars.
Our room was clear and comfortable, water hot and the heating on.
The Meals where average, but breakfast was always cold.
The entertainment was poor, more for the over 70's.
But I would stay here again if I visited Eastbourne, as it is clean and friendly.

Overall very good. Lovely big room facing the sea, but bathroom needed a serious make over. Food, staff excellent. Ballroom and bar facilities lovely but a bit too much bingo and quiz in the evening. Good location near to pier on esplanade.

Went on Shearings coach holiday to this hotel, in November. Had a room overlooking bay. Room not bad, could do with refurb. but not complaining.
Food was very good,Mark works very hard in entertainment best we've seen for long time.
We met some nice ladies who sat on our table for meals, they lived local and were staying for weekend. Went on bus to Brighton and Bexhill, journey to Brighton took a long while, but didn't bother us we'd got all day.

It's always a gamble booking Christmas away and this was better than expected. The room was a bit dated, the TV was in an awkward place in the corner near the door, but otherwise very comfortable. I understand there is refurbishment going on, but obviously haven't reached the 4th floor yet. The town is also conveniently round the corner and we enjoyed a walk along the pier, which is still half open, despite the fire.

The staff were amazing and the food was even better, excellent service during meals. However, I think the hotel could do with a games room, i.e., pool/darts, as an alternative to bingo, as the entertainment was very limited - not everyone wants to play bingo every night!

Thanks to all the staff that made our Christmas special this year!

Spent new year at this hotel, hotel staff were fine, food was sometimes cold because of distance from kitchen. Ballroom was small so missed compere's jokes, just heard the laughter. Hotel was too big for me. Waited. 20mins to be served with included afternoon tea. Room was fine, a side sea view single. Hotel needs more directional signs

We paid £149 for the bus from Leicester, 3 nights in this hotel and a day trip to Brighton, we also got a ticket for 4 drinks included so was excellent value for money. This hotel is a lot nicer than a Britannia Hotel that we usually stay in for similar kind of money. It was very nice to have a seated dinner and breakfast and have tea served at the table. Made a pleasant change from barging against people at a buffet! The only thing I would change is have the toaster out in the restaurant. Bringing mixed to the table resulted in a lot of wastage, rather than you just choosing and toasting your own. I was quite surprised at charging extra for some what I consider basic breakfast items such as fried bread and black pudding but yet you can have a Kipper included in the price. That is my only criticism of the hotel and why I've not rated it excellent. I would work these things into the costs and charge extra for the Kippers.
The staff were very accommodating regarding my 15 month old baby. They let her have her dinner earlier (the restaurant didn't open until 6.30pm, but she goes to bed at 7.00pm.) And I was able to store milk in the fridge and get it any time I liked.
We had an older bedroom that hasn't been revamped but it was still a lovely spacious room. I haven't seen a large back TV for years, but I never switched it on. We were out all day and then played bingo or made use of the free wifi in the lounge in the evenings.
I would highly recommend this hotel. All the staff except on particular Barman were exceptional and provided great customer service. The General Manager should be proud of them all.

Just stayed 3 nights with National coaches, we got bed, breakfast and evening meal, transport a day trip to Brighton and 4 inclusives drinks a day for £149 pp so wasn't expecting too much, how wrong we were. Hotel was lovely and warm, bedroom was quite acceptable even though bathroom was small. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, when we arrived it was my 15 month old granddaughters dinner time and evening meal wasn't for another hour no problem though they provided home made chicken nuggets, chips and peas within 10 minutes when ask if she could have her dinner early. Inclusive drinks were all branded not house variety. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable break at a very reasonable price.
