Stayed at the Burlington hotel from the 27th of March to the 30th of March it was a shearings trip and we had a superior room number 116',on the first floor. The room was ok but floorboards were very noisy and no air all in there as you could not open a window. When I booked over the telephone I was told this was the only room available at a cost of £465 pounds witch I think was simply not worth that much money. I noticed in the dining hall there were many tables empty I wonder if there were cheaper rooms available but I can't obviously prove that. I feel let down and expected a better room for that price.,yours truly p white

My neighbours gave me a £100 voucher for my birthday and asked me to come and join them at the Burlington at Eastbourne. I was not sure being early in the year but I was pleasantly surprised, I had also mentioned it to my friend Ann and she also came along. The hotel is just diagonal of the Eastbourne Pier although it was party burnt last year, work is in progress and one can go on to the pier. The deal was 4 nights half board, Every night dancing, 3 nights bingo and a quiz and every night some kind of good entertainment. Mark did the bingo, the quiz, sung, told jokes and danced with the ladys. The rooms are clean and I was lucky to be at the back and had a good sleep. The Dining Room Manager Moses works very hard and is very helpful and helps out where ever he is needed. He brought my friend John nearly 90 and registered blind to the table, Mariann our Hungarian Waitress was fast, friendly and a treasure, she is a great asset to the hotel and one is lucky if one gets on to her station. My friend Ann liked it so much she stayed on for the weekend, there are also some free excursion to Brighton and other places, there is also a local bus stop across the hotel which takes one in 40 minutes to Brighton, pensioners of course can go free. On the Gala night there is an extra course and dinners also include a coffee which can be collected from the café, there is free Wifi on the ground floor except the restaurant, on the day of the gala night there are 4 free drinks which van be used all day, alcoholic as well as soft drinks. On one evening a lady comes and sells jewellery mostly made by her, very beautiful and not expensive, I bought some and gave it as presents and as my friend was there for the weekend I asked her to get me some more as they are displayed there and can be purchased from reception.

We have enjoyed a number of holidays at this hotel between Set and March over the past few years. The rooms were comfortable, however if you we staying on the top floors with sea views the wind got through the window frames and the room would be quite cold. The service was good and the food selection quite good though sometimes the vegetables a touch overooked. Having said this we still like to holiday there for the convenience to the amenities, shops and local area. A major draw back are the two rather small lifts that are hardly adequate for a hotel a of this size

This was my 8th visit and the 1st this year, not a lot has changed since my last review.
Again my friends and I had a great weekend, all staff very helpful, my daughter and husband had to stay at the Majestic as this hotel was full, but they were allowed to have their evening meal with us which was nice. and Mark Snow is a brilliant host, we do enjoy the evening entertainment,
But I must say that the food this time was disappointing, new chef maybe ? He doesn't seem to know that roast potatoes should be browned and that cauliflower does need to be cooked, we couldn't even cut it as is was practically raw, and our breakfasts were cool not hot, we did tell the waitress at the time of these things. Mostly ok food but have had better every other time we have visited,
But still for a budget weekend away in a great location would recommend it still.

On first going to my room I thought another Bay Hotel. Room clean but tired. The carpet was worn. The hand basin in the bathroom mismatched and grout in the shower needing attention. But the hotel was updating room's in the hotel. I could live with the room at the price it cost me. I was on a sheerings 5 day break. But outside of the room the hotel was wonderful. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The food fantastic as was the entertainment and coffee shop. I was meeting up with a friend from another part of the country. Sitting us together for meals was not a problem after we explained that we wanted to sit together. Well done The Burlington and Sheerings this was one of your better breaks.

I am on a short break with my elderly father and have enjoyed the most fabulous short break, which was fantastic value for money. Each year I visit this hotel the experience gets better. The food is piping hot with a great choice and all the staff from, reception to waiters to cleaners just cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. I have already booked our next break before we leave. Counting the days until the next fabulous experience. This hotel is magnificent during any season. Keep up the good work.

Just back from a 3-night stay at Shearing's hotel. Excellent position on seafront opposite the pier. Comfortable and welcoming with good food and friendly staff. Mainly elderly guests. Near shops, Buses to Brighton and Hastings stop close by. Recommended. Good value.

Excellent room food and entertainment and staff. Especially Mark Snow who's warm personality makes the holiday for many. Ideal location opposite Pier and close to shops. South Downs and beautiful country side nearby.

Been to the Burlington twice, both times for the Airshow, Although most of the guests are over 70, we found them all very pleasant, A big hotel but not lacking service, its clean, bright and spacious, the restaurant is well serviced, food is very good and service is better than average, plenty of choice, The basic rooms are basic but well kept, clean and have everything you could wish for, although not many have sea views, but we don't spend that long in there. Entertainment was provided each evening, the cabaret evenings were very good. overall a good hotel, good amenities, with a very good price, Would definitely return.

my mum and dad went on a 5 day break here when my father took ill - paramedics came and took him to eastbourne hospital. the following week my father was still in hospital - myself and my mother needed somewhere to stay as we lived 200 miles away so we chose the burlington as my mum knew this hotel and knew the surrounding area.
the burlington were excellent in supporting us - they understood our circumstances and gave us a very good deal with regards to the room, meals and price. they didnt have to do this but they did which is a very rare thing these days.
thankyou burlington hotel - you took alot of the stress away.

Three night stay at this Hotel ,don't really know how to describe it ,So first of all ll Reception staff were a little dismissive of us had to wait until they had finished their conversation until they acknowledged us.,But have to say that all other staff were lovely.Fransisco our waiter was excellent ,room was kept lovely and clean and bar staff were very pleasant. Room was lovely sea view, clean,, lovely bed ,large bathroom all clean BUT huge crack in bathroom sink, told reception who said Housekeeping hadn,t noticed anything, strange because it was about 8" long both ways.Toilet roll holder was hanging loosely on wall.Food was edible, not particularly inspiring but OK.Floor boards in room above us were horrendous ,creaked all the time ,don't think people above us slept very much seemed to be walking about all night which meant we didn,t get any sleep either.Asked to be moved but told hotel was full.Entertainment was,old school, not for us, but found pub on corner so went there.Think if you are looking for a little break with some good food and good cabaret then maybe this is not for you.If you are looking for cheap and cheerful then this is the hotel.

Lovely hotel right on the front overlooking the sea and the pier. The room was very spacious as was the bathroom. Beds very comfortable with lovely crisp white linen. Plenty of towels in bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities in room although they did not provide any biscuits! Hairdryer also provided. Could do with a towel rail nearer to the sink and the toilet roll holder needed to be closer to the toilet! Restaurant very clean and inviting. The food was excellent with a good choice. Evening entertainment was very good and the lounge and seating areas were comfortable. One of the lifts only holds 2 people but there is another one which accommodates 5 people. The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful.

This was a Shearings 5 day break. Like a lot of old hotels, they have seen better days.
The Restaurant, bar and entertainment area's were clean and well decorated.
Our room was a little 'tired', but it was clean, plenty of tea and coffee available and a TV. The bathroom also was clean, but tired.
The food was tasty and sufficient. The service was excellent.
For the price, this was excellent value.
Just one complaint - smokers congregated outside at the main entrance causing congestion and the inevitable smell.

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights at the Burlington Hotel and although we were much later arriving than anticipated due to problems with trains, there was a hot meal available for us in the Dining Room which was much appreciated.

The Burlington Hotel is an impressive building "from the outside". The reception and lounge areas are very welcoming. Our room was 417 on the 4th floor and was adequately furnished with an excellent seaview. However, as with most of the hotel there is room for some redecoration. In the corridor the carpet was stained at the edges and repainting is required in most areas. This is a listed building and redecoration and refurbishment is an ongoing problem and we do accept this. The staff were all very friendly and the food although basic was well cooked and presented although the breakfast was a little disappointing.

Special thanks again to the Manager for enabling us to stay for an extra night when a booking error had occurred on our part although this was due to a misinterpretation of the booking arrangements we had made. We enjoyed our stay nevertheless.

Four night stay, half board with Shearings. We paid extra for sea view double room.
Easy check in, Luggage taken to room by staff. Two lifts, one holds 4 people the other only 2. Room 407 is huge and has a great sea view. It is tired and could really do with a refurbishment. The carpet is stained, windows mouldy and tv old with a few basic channels. Wooden coat hangers provided and the sachets of coffee & tea nice top brands. A couple of plug sockets so no fighting when charging phones. Tiled bathroom with shower over bath. Cracked tile and no bathroom window blinds. Plenty of hot water, powerful shower. I reported drooping shower head and it was fixed straight away. We are tall and prefer bath sheets. Only small bath towels provided but changed daily. Two small bars of soap and shaver socket provided. Bed was clean but springs could be felt in the mattress. The temperature was comfortable & we both slept well. A room was getting a refirb next to ours so the hotel is improving and modernising.
We had quick friendly service from the staff and really enjoyed lovely three course meals every night. We both have big appetites and did not feel hungry. We both had full English with poached eggs, fruit juice, coffee, prunes and grapefruit. A nice pot of tea for him and a nice pot of coffee for me. Toast, jam & marmalade every morning. See my photos.
Being under 50 the entertainment was not to our taste and we were unable to get a seat in the busy entertainment area anyway. We only enjoyed drinks at the hotel when we could use our 8 free drinks vouchers. Other nights we avoided the high prices at the bar by visiting Lloyds & Wetherspoons a short walk away. Other nights we bought alcohol from the local supermarket and watched the rubbish tv in our room.
A bus stop is just down the road opposite the pier so we had a lovely day trip into Hastings.
Lots of grey hair customers and young European staff.
Our cases were taken down to coach on day of departure but had to be out side room door for 7am.
We enjoyed our stay and will return hopefully to a refurbished room.

My husband and I have just returned from a 4 day break at The Burlington Hotel in Eastbourne. We had a lovely time, the food was excellant and the staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel is quite old and has a lot of character, the downside to this is being disturbed by creaking floorboards from above whilst trying to sleep.
The entertainer calked Mark was brilliant, he played several waltz's for the older generation and they loved it. He even got them up to dance with him ( a really good sport). His quips and jokes were brilliant.
All in all I would stay at the Burlington again.

My friend and I have just come back from a 3 night Shearings trip to the Burlington and we will definitely be returning there. For what we paid it was excellent value for money. The hotel is located directly opposite the seafront and a nice short walk to the City center. The room was spacious, clean and warm, the restaurant food was nice with good service. What really made it for us was the staff and the great evening entertainment with Marky Mark Snow who was not only an excellent all round entertainer.but a really lovely guy too.The bar staff particularly Matt, was briliant, they also kept us entertained throughout the night whilst doing a great job. Yes, the drinks cost a little more than they would in a pub but to be expected in a hotel, also we didn't mind too much as we'd been given 4 free drinks vouchers each to use on the Saturday night...which brings me to Saturday nights singer, Scott Free, despite the name he was fantastic! What a voice! We wasn't expecting him to be that good so we were very pleasantly surprised as we love all the swing/Ratpack music. This was my first Shearings trip and based on this one, I will be booking more in the future.

Just spent 4 nights in room 443, its a huge twin bedded room with a huge bathroom. Basic, not luxury, it was very dusty but beds were made nicely each day. Its a quiet room. Food was varied, tasty and plentiful. Staff all very polite and helpful. Entertainment was ok but best was the organ player he was very funny. There are better hotels, they cost more, simple. You should enjoy yourself here.

Just left Eastbourne on a lovely sunny day.
Our second visit to the Burlington and wont be the last. All smoothly settled in as usual.I love travelling with Shearings as I know its such a help when your cases are taken up to your rooms. Our only issue is the noisy floorboards. We should have asked for a top floor.Food hot delicious and varied usual bay hotel menu.We were served by Daniel who was quick polite and always pleasant. Our room standard on 3rd floor clean tidy bathroom the same.Always warm.
Mark as entertaining as ever so funny and a one off.So overall lovely holiday and still the best in our book.

We paid £99 each for a weekend break, this included travel, BB&E plus a gala dinner on the Saturday and 4 free dinks the same evening, there was also free coffee after your evening meal in the snack bar.
We were at the back of the hotel, so no sea view, which you can upgrade to, but the room was clean, had been updated and had a shower over the bath, towels were changed daily. My three gripes were, the shower screen seemed a bit short for the shower and the carpet in the bedroom could have done with cleaning, it was badly stained in one or two areas, and price of drinks at the bar. £7.80 for a pint of John Smiths and a medium red wine. But overall, with pleasant staff, a great driver and entertainment, good value for money. Free wi fi in public areas but we were able to log on in our room.
We walked to the Lloyds bar in town on the Friday and Sunday evening, great crowd and cheap drinks. We also took the bus to Brighton on the Sunday, a lovely run out and lots to do when you get there.

We have just returned from a Shearings, 3 day bed, breakfast and evening meal self drive break at the Burlington Hotel. We could not fault the hotel in any way, the room was spacious and beds comfortable. We didn't pay for an upgrade so it looked over the car park which didn't bother us. Meals are excellent and entertainment is what you would expect. We were keep waiting for about half an hour one night because what we ordered was not cooked. It was on the menu. The only complaint we have is the price of the drinks. They are horrendous. For example: a small bottle of tonic water 125ml was £1.60, Bottle of water £2. A lot of the people who take these holidays are elderly and it feels to me like a rip off!!

We are younger retirees and we're able to walk up into the town (a short distance) and buy drinks at half the price. I appreciate there has to be a mark up for the hotel but in most cases it is 50% or more. How can this be right. My advice is if you like a drink, take yourself a bottle to keep in your room for a nightcap or day cap for that matter.
