I would highly recommend this hotel,we came from a residential care home with deaf and disabled people. The party consisted of 15 residents and 8 staff, On a T&T weekend. All the staff were amazing and did all they could and more to make their holiday extra special. I would like to take the opportunity to mention Matt Kingsland for being so accommodating and caring towards are residents. We have been on numerous T&T holidays and nothing compares to this.we look forward to spending many more...!!

Really enjoyed our trip to the Burlington. I rang up to request a 1st Floor room as I have health issues and had read the lift was always busy. This was accomodated as well has requesting a newly decorated room which are lovely. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic please give our special thanks to Rebecca. The driver Tony 2 teds was also excellent he is funny and knowledgable. The trips were good enjoyed Brighton and the Pavillion. The only disappointing thing was the entertainment and the lack of space to accomodate everyone in the evening. Jac was rubbish, he shouted in the microphone there was not enough good music but other than that really enjoyed our stay. Would definately recommend it to friends and family and would return but hope that there is different compare.

First of all I have to say this hotel is fantastic value for money. The holiday started with our wonderful coach driver Tony, who made us laugh, was helpful and knowledgable of the local area.

The management of Burlington have got it bang on target for service which was reflected by the smiles on everyones faces. The staff were friendly and would go out of their way enough to help you.

The rooms were cleaned daily. Fresh towels and items for the tea tray were well supplied. The rooms decor was a little dated which I thought added character to the place. The beds were comfortable and the room was warm and cosy.

The meals were hot and plentiful and as for our waitress; she was efficient and helpful.
Mark the entertainment compare was just perfect for this job. The bar staff looked as though they were genuinely happy in their job, they really made our Tinsel and Turkey, 'New Year's Eve' Party go with a bang. The effort the staff made enabled the night to be spectacular.
If there was only one little quip, it was that there was not enough seating for the entertainment. Having said that the hotel was to full capacity, so what do you expect?

I cannot thank staff enough for their individual effort. It goes without saying we will definately be staying at the Burlington when we next visit Eastbourne.

Just came back from an enjoyable Turkey and Tinsel weekend. First time we have been on one of these, and glad we went as we really enjoyed ourselves. As always staff are very friendly and helpful, was put in room 101 and asked to be moved the next day and receptionist accomodated us. The reason, the room was fine clean and adequate, but the music from the entertainment was too loud, not complaining about entertainment but wife has illness which she needs earlier nights than most people. In future will request room away from said area. The food as always was plentiful and waitress Maria coped admirably. For the price paid very good value for money. Would always recommend a front bedroom as the views are fantastic. We like the area as it's relatively flat which is good for people with mobility problems.

Just got back from Tinsel and Turkey 4 days. Very cheap break for a rest. All of the staff work extremely hard and are very friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we had a lovely sea view. The food was o.k as well. We only watched one evenings entertainment but that was good and everyone said that they all enjoyed the other evenings. Went to Brighton and Hastings for the day, it only took just over half an hour to drive and the people who went by the local bus said it took just over an hour. The clientele are mainly on the older age group but everyone really enjoyed themselves by the look of it and put us "youngsters" to shame with their energy.Brllliant value for money and a lovely break.

Just come back from a turkey and tinsel week, had a realy good time first time at the Burlington, thinking of going back in the summer. The staff are very pleasent and helpfull especially our server Rebecca always served you with a smile on her face and nothing was any trouble for her. Food was very good, plenty of it and a good choice of meals. room was small but big enough for what you use it for sleeping. One more thing Wi-Fi please.

Our 4-night break at the Burlington in Eastbourne was most agreeable. My wife and I have visited many Shearings hotels and found this one of equally excellent value. Our room was spacious, clean and well presented, affording much storage space. Beds comfortable and lighting good. One downside - TV somewhat antediluvian and temperamental, offering only the 5 basic channels. Breakfast excellent and plentiful, dinner likewise, cheerfully served, always hot, by most pleasant and obliging staff. Room servicing most efficient. Location in Eastbourne practical, opposite the pier, with a useful bus-stop over the road. Reception staff well organised, helpful and efficient. All-in-all a pleasant stay. Would happily recommend or return.

One recommendation to the management, could they please consider Wi-Fi, if not in the rooms then at least in the reception/bar areas? I believe most Shearings hotels have some, if limited, facilty for internet access

My Wife and I went with friends to the Burlington and to be honest we did not expect much for the money we paid, however we were all very surprised by the hotel and its staff, all very friendly and worked really hard to make our stay an enjoyable one.
If you go thinking its the Ritz you may be dissapointed but if you want a super value break you can't go wrong.

I booked by phone asking for a sea view to be told there was only one left but it was a "Premier Room"
That made my bill £906 instead of about £350, one wonders if she was a good salesgirl on commision
I requested we be near the lift as we are both in out 80s but on arrival found our room was actually the farthest away we could be, as was our seat in the dining room from the door.

The room had little more than a basic room except for an extra chair and a four poster bed.

The extra large tv that came with the room didn't work all week even though a so called engineer looked at it on the first morning and left saying it was now working, but before he got to the lift it had failed again ,but he was past two fire doors so I couldn't call him back.
I rang receptionand asked them to tell him but we never saw him again plus every time I reported it again each morning I was told he had repaired it and it was working and despite repeated requests no one would come to the room the confirm my complaint.

The bed mattress was sunk below a side bar making it difficult for my wife to get in and out which by the end of the week her legs were badly bruised under the back of her upper knees.
In my case I was lucky that by the end of the week I did not damage my nether regions.

Car parking {at £5 per day} needed someone to remove the chain to let me in and out
The rear door had a bell which never seemed to be answered until on the last day I found out when it was rung the door lock was released by reception, but they never told me and for most of the week I had walked all the way round to the front to ask them to open the chain some 100 yards and difficult for me to walk that distance.

Meals were just adequate, no more than that.

Entertainment was mediocre, with mostly the resident comedian / singer going on about his gender.

Bingo one eveing was called by a female and we had difficulty hearing her even after asking her to turn the sound up.

Drinks on "tab" were signed for, one evening I had a wine with my meal and later in the lounge was given a second tab with the same drink on it although I had signed for it in the dining room.
When questioned the waiter told me the first tab would be cancelled by the second.
Later in the week I had a drink in the lounge and was presented ith two tabs for the same drink
I was told one was for the bar and the other for reception.
On the final bill ALL the tabs were on it and had I not checked I would have been almost £10 out of pocket
It took almost an hour at reception to get this sorted when we needed to get on our way home.
At no time were we offered help with our luggage even though it was obvious my wife was disabled and unable to help me carry it.

I wrote to Shearing to complain and after about three weeks got a post card saying my letter was being attended too.
After another two weeks I rang them and asked if there was any progress to be told sharply that it would be another two weeks before they got round to it.

That is now almost four weeks ago so I don't live in hope of hearing more.

Just returned from a turkey and tinsel holiday with shearings at this hotel can't fault it. Its the second time at this hotel stayed there in the summer the staff here are the best I have come across, there were some new additions to the staff since the summer but this is only for the better Matthew S needs a special mention he is so nice with all the guests and works hard. Also another person who needs a mention is Mark who is the compare he made our evenings most enjoyable. Food good trips good. I took My Dad and Aunt they love it here so will be returning sometime next year.

Went on a Shearings coach weekend taking over from an even more elderly relative who was ill, and went with no expectations, so not surprised that I didn't rave about the hotel. Perfect location on the seafront opposite the pier, and only a comfortable walk(no slopes) from the town centre/shops/bars/restaurants etc. Rooms seem to vary - ours was spacious but basic and clean. Carpet worn, and gaps in window frame let in draught. En suite also clean, but without basic toiletries. Ceiling above the shower needs re-plastering. Plenty of hot water. Have read in other reviews that food was good, but for us that was far from true. Portions were small, veg bland and seemed to have spent too long in water. Traditional breakfast very basic. However, we accept that for the price charged, the kitchen must operate on a limited budget. One lady who had been before agreed that the food was mediocre, but said it had been much better on her previous visit. On the plus side, service was quick from very friendly staff. Staff throughout the hotel were very good and helpful. The entertainment seemed to go down well with most residents, and for clients who enjoy bingo, a quiz and an OK compere, it would be fine. Very good singer did one spot on our first night, but set a standard which could not be maintained. This is my personal review, and I would certainly not go back, but the hotel is set up to appeal to a certain market on a limited budget, and seems to do so quite well.

Location is brilliant (Eastbourne pier is just across the road, as is a beachside cafe with decking; shops and pubs just around the corner).
Staff are great, no matter how busy they are. (True of most Shearings / Bay / etc hotels we've stayed in)
Meals perfectly acceptable.
Rooms clean and tidy with en-suite and basic brewing up facilities. Beds reasonably comfy. Room sizes varied a lot. Ours was small but had everything we needed. Our friends' rooms just along the corridor were two or three times bigger. But that was pot luck. No views (apart from the back of the hotel) but we didn't request seaviews etc.
Entertainment most nights of our four-night stay was bingo, a quiz then a singer or entertainer or the hotel's resident compere/singer/entertainer who was very good. We soon learned to eat dinner early in order to get a seat for the bingo!
We go with friends or by ourselves on these holiday breaks. They're a great way of seeing different parts of the country either by self-drive or, on this occasion, by Shearings coach.
As part of the holiday, we had two coach trips out - to Brighton and to Bexhill on sea. We also paid for an extra trip to Rye, which was well worth it.
Our driver knew the Eastbourne area well. He took us on routes that went past all sorts of historic, quirky or interesting places and he was also a mine of equally interesting information and anecdotes.
Good fun all round. Which is what a holiday is all about, after all!

I must have had a funny turn when I booked a 4 night mid week break at the Burlington!! I paid extra for a superior, sea view room. My wife now feels that I should have funny turns a bit more often as it was an excellent choice and well worth the extra money.

We were self drive, and also paid an extra fiver a night fot our own car parking space!!! Another good choice. Reception staff were always helpful, but must get a bit fed up of having to unlock the chain on the car park with regularity. Never a complaint though.

Our room was large and airy. The bed linen was spotless as was the rest of the room and bathroom. Yes it is old and very creaky, but then so am I, so we were well matched!! A bath and overhead shower was in the bathroom, together with the usual goodies which were replenished daily.

It must be remembered that this is a coaching hotel, and if you are expecting gourmet food you will be disappointed. However, the menues are good, the food is hot and tasty, and the waitress on our table always had a smile. What more could you want for the money??

Mark was the man for the obligatory bingo and compare for the entertainment.I have to say that on the first night we did wonder what we had let oueselves in for, but he certainly grew on you as the week went on. We enjoyed him more than the brought in acts.

The hotel is in a great position overlooking the pier and a short walk to the shopping centre. It is a good place to stay if you want to explore the surrounding countryside of Sussex and I would have no hestation in recommending it. HOWEVER, looking at some of the other Reviews, it looks like you will have to have a funny turn too when you book!! A superior, sea view is certainly the one to go for.

Have a great time.

Just come back from weekend break stayed with my husband, mother-in-law and her partner. Upgraded to superior seaview room which was on 4th floor. Very spacious room and large ensuite bathroom (room402). Room had been refurbished , lovely bathroom. Windows opened slightly. Lovely seaview with pier.
Food quality very good with different choices. Buffet breakfast no longer available now waitress service. First class service from bar staff, waiters and waitresses.
Mark resident entertainer got everyone involved with his bingo, quizzes etc.
reception staff gave good customer service dealing with all enquiries very efficiently.
We paid £5 for the parking space at the back of hotel, well worth the money and secure.
this is the 7th shearings hotel I have stayed in and this is the best of all.

Booked a 4 night Shearings coach holiday for myself, my mother and disabled brother. So glad I upgraded to a sea view room. Room was clean and pleasant and bathroom adequate but was concerned that there was no walk in shower (had requested one), the shower over the bath was usable but I had to help my mother in and out of the very high bath.
My bother was in a single room - oh dear what can I say, it overlooked the car park at the back, was small, dark and dingy. Carpet had seen better days and the bed was oh so uncomfortable.
On the plus side, our stay was very pleasant due to the staff, Maggie our waitress was superb as was Mark the entertainer. The hotel is in a very good position, just across the road to the pier and buses to Beachy Head and the surrounding area.
Would I recommend this hotel, well I think that you have to look beyond the shabby areas to see that the hotel does really try to make sure you have a good holiday and do take your concerns seriously. I would stay again but would always upgrade the room to ensure the best accomodation available.

We stayed here last weekend in a top floor room looking out over the town. It was quiet and spacious. The bedding and surfaces were all fresh and clean. The shower worked well with plenty of hot water and clean towels as required. On the downside, the light level was low, making it difficult for reading in the evenings and the window did not open. I expect the room is on the list for refurbishment but in the meantime it would help if the carpet was washed clean and a new mattress provided.
The food was good, especially the kippers for breakfast. Drinks were poor, no green tea and the coffee undrinkable.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking with the voucher system was easy and convenient.

I had booked a 4 night Shearings coach holiday arriving on 1st October 2012. This was at a reduced price and I took my mother away and paid extra for sea view and front seats on the coach and I was glad I did so. Our driver Chris was a treasure and he knew quite a few of the returning guests on the coach.

Our Room was room 110 which was a large twin with two large windows. The french doors had been opened and the doors really required to be serviced and re hung as you could not shut them. We did report this and the doors were closed shut for us but that did not solve the long term problem. The bathrooms do require updating especially with the elderly population this hotel caters for and should really have walk in shower facilities. We were happy with our room in general and thought it value for the money we paid for it. I agree with alot of comments about the amount of creaking that the floor boards make. Yes it is an old building but when you spend the 4 nights listening to who ever is staying in room 210 above you walking about constantly from 3am till you get up it is annoying!! This can be easily rectified by screwing the floor boards down and that would solve all the negative reviews and unhappy visitors who wont return!!!

The food menu for the day is displayed by the entrance to the dining area and its then your choice if you eat or choose to go out. We did choose to eat out on one night as we did not like the choice of food on offer. I would rather do that than suffer eating food that has no taste or what I consider to be substandard. The service was good and staff busy attending alot of tables and Ewa was a member of staff who was professional and had a great personality.

The lifts are a huge problem at this hotel and I had phoned ahead to shearings after reading some reviews on here that had problems with disablility access. I was given a room close to the lift on the first floor as I did not want to arrive on the Monday to discover I had been given an inappropriate room for our needs. One couple who sat close to us and where wheelchair users too, waited on average 20 mins to gain access to the larger of the two lifts that could just accommodate a wheelchair with someone seated in it!! The larger lift was also used for the cleaners to use and that did cause problems also at busy times. Due to increased disability awareness and independance the lack of lift facilities and the blocked usage for hotel purposes requires re assessment.

The evening entertainment the week we were there was not the usual gentleman as he was on holiday but there was arrangements made. Bingo is the norm every night with acts who are appropriate for the average age of guest. There is table waiter service if you wish to take advantage for it.

When we were there the hotel was clean and tidy and staff were friendly and work hard and a real bonus is that you dont have to worry about your cases as they are taken to the room for you and returned to the coach the morning of departure.

Recently had four days here. Nice room overlooking the prom and pier. Went to sleep to the beautiful sound of the waves on the shore. Food and service good. Pay for the parking - it's worth it. Although not important to us, the entertainment was difficult to see comfortably. We enjoyed walks along the broad promenade and a ride in the road train. Shops are also close by. Would visit again.
