Returned on Friday the 27th November from a 4 night Turkey and tinsel break, which was excellent, friendly and very helpful staff, good food and plenty of it, nice and warm through out the hotel.
We had a lovely room 326, unfortunately there was a plumbing problem, which meant we had no hot water, a receptionist came up to the room and immediately put us in a new room (419) which was an upgraded sea view room. What better service do you require than that!!!.
We will definitely be returning during next year.

Went for just a short midweek break at the last minute. Our room 325 was quite modern and large with a sideways view of the sea. It was fairly comfortable but think it is time for the mattress to be changed as it had 2 large dips in it through wear, neverthe less it was just about OK. The bathroom had no ventilation as the window was jammed tight. I did report this twice and was told it would be seen too but after our 5th night when we left it still hadn't been fixed. What made it worse was no ventilation fan either so no fresh air at all in the bathroom. That was a shame as otherwise the room was lovely.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The food was fairly good apart from one day when the kipper would have been very good for a new sole on a shoe, shame I didnt have a pair of them. I sent it back as it was uneatable and had the reliable bacon and egg as a replacement. I don't think charging an extra 55p for a few mushrooms is justified.

The hotel decor was quite good, except our room had been touched up with some different coloured emulsion in the bedroom and bathroom, looked odd, could not understand why it wasn't the same colour. We, unfortunately were given a rear facing room, which overlooked the Fire escape, this was lit up all the way up, very brightly, which I understand to a degree but the curtains didn't quite meet so it was very bright in the room. The pigeons loved it - cooing all night on the steps too. The quilt wasn't wide enough so a bit of a gap each side. The chambermaids though, were very good.

We stayed here recently on a 5 day turkey and tinsel break and found an excellent hotel with everything we wanted for an enjoyable stay. Our first pleasure apart from the good trip down with our joke telling driver, Peter, was when we entered our room and found it spacious with new furniture and a lovely flat screen tv. The bathroom had a heated towel rail and we got a bath with shower over which was perfect for us as one of us prefers a bath and the other a shower. Despite the weather being cold and raining most of the week we didn`t need our radiator on as the room was always warm enough and we had to have the shower on the lowest setting because the water was always hot.
Our waiter, Francesco, was very good and managed to serve us fairly quickly despite having several tables he had to look after. Food was very good, although the vegetarian choice of a curry on what was supposed to be the themed Christmas day did not seem appropriate and I would have preferred something like a nut roast, so I ended up choosing salad that day as I do not like curry.
The trips out were not bad but the half day to Lewes turned out to be disappointing as it was pouring with rain when we got there and as there are no inside main areas in the town for shopping etc, nobody chose to get off the coach so Peter took us to a garden centre instead about 20 minutes drive away.
The bus service to Brighton is excellent but expect to be on the bus for around 90 minutes. There is another bus that is quicker with limited stops but we returned on this bus and it only took 10 minutes off the journey, but it is worth it when you get there as Brighton is a very large place and the shopping facilities are excellent. The bus provides a free Metro newspaper which I read on the journey there and it was full of interesting news and information and took me the best part of an hour to read, and we also had a very helpful and friendly driver.
Eastbourne itself is a nice shopping area and has most of the large chain shops and the Burlington is only a 5 minute walk from most of them. The pier is across the road which is free at the moment but I believe that when it is restored there is going to be a charge. As it was out of season when we went there was nothing on the pier except a café that was open and the fishing facilities at the end.
The entertainment in the hotel was very good, there was bingo and a quiz for the first 3 nights followed by a cabaret act, then on the last night there was a comedian/musician that we were informed by several people who had seen him before that it was an act not to be missed. We were very glad we didn`t miss him because he was excellent, funny without being smutty and the only problem some people seemed to have on the night was not being able to get a seat close enough to watch the show as the area of the lounge by the stage is quite small considering there were 5 coaches of people staying whilst we were there and also several self drive guests.
The hotel has a policy of guests not being allowed to put items of clothing on chairs in order to get that prominent table booked whilst they are having their evening meal, which is the only fair way to ensure it is first come first served when getting a seat to watch the entertainment, but it is a pity the lounge area was not designed better as there are other seats at the back of the room and at the sides but the centre of the room is taken up with the stairs to the bedrooms, so this could do with being build into the side of the lounge rather than in the centre.
The staff we found were all very helpful, one of the reception staff rang the photographer and arranged for him to come to reception to take a picture of myself and my partner as the ones he had taken in the restaurant the night before were all individual ones, so he came and took one of us together which we were under no obligation to buy, but were very pleased with it so we did.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Room 114 first floor.
Lots of steps into the hotel. 1 lift 8 people, 4 possible, 1 lift 4 people, 2 a squeeze, many steps along corridor. Back entrance to car park via narrow doors and two VERY step steps at rear. STAFF exceptionally helpful, although Wine waiter on Saturday evening non-existent. Clean rooms, staff effective, but building is tired. Its grade 2 listed by James Berry 1851 - but it needs serious modernisation to be fit for purpose. NO WIFI except in reception area - a real annoyance.

We went to the Burlington with Shearings , it was my first visit to Eastbourne and the Burlington and I will be returning. The room which we upgraded to had a sea view and was spotlessly clean. The only downside was the draught from the bathroom window but it is an old building. The staff were excellent , all the waiters and bar staff were friendly and helpful. The Burlington is in a fantastic position overlooking the newly re built Pier and the gardens. The hotel is close to the shopping centre which has many big stores and well known shops . The cafe bar is excellent for lunch time snacks and drinks and morning coffee sat in the conservatory overlooking the sea front. We will definitely return .

Spent a great midweek break at this hotel. Lovely large room freshly redecorated with great sea views. The menu was varied with something for every taste. The food was served by a friendly waiter and was very nice. The ambience of the hotel was pleasant and the staff very helpful. Evening entertainment was good and varied.

Very enjoyable break. Could not fault anything. All staff and facilities were brilliant. Very central and close to bus stops shops and the pier. Visited Battle and Brighton and although the weather could have been better the entertainment at the hotel in the evenings kept us smiling.

We decided on a five day Shearings holiday for our October half term break. We went to our local WA shop, and simply asked what was available. We picked the Burlington at Eastbourne. Booking was quickly and efficiently done and the holiday paid for. We opted to drive to Normanton, our local hub, and pay for car parking there, as we didn't want to do the feeder bus trip around West Yorkshire. Departure from Normanton was prompt, and the journey to Eastbourne uneventful, but rather long (as expected). The coach was comfortable.

On arrival at the Burlington, we were quickly checked in, and our luggage was swiftly delivered to our room. We had booked a superior sea view, and it was. We appreciated the welcome pack in the room. The room was recently decorated, and was very comfortably furnished with everything that we needed. Everything was clean and in its place, and was kept so.

Even though this was still only October, this was a 'turkey & tinsel' break, which frankly we found surreal - the hotel was decorated for Christmas, and 'Christmas Eve', 'Christmas Day', and 'New Year's Eve' were all observed, with a Christmas Dinner (including cracker and hat) on one day. That said, once we got used to the idea, it wasn't intrusive, nobody forced the issue, and it certainly didn't spoil anything. All the food was good - I am the faddiest of people, and I was quite satisfied with the choice on offer. A new touch seems to be that you can have side orders of veg to your preference for a small extra charge, and I did take advantage of that a couple of times. A good idea - appreciated. Restaurant service was good, and the reception/housekeeping staff were on top of their game.

Entertainment was to Shearings standard - we particularly enjoyed Mark's contributions. Apparently he is a Burlington legend and he was certainly very entertaining.

Excursions were good and we enjoyed trips to Lewes, Rye, and Battle. Our driver, Tony, whilst not at all a conversationalist, provided an informative commentary and looked after us very well.

We enjoyed Eastbourne, and we also went independently to Brighton, by train. This was easily arranged, and there are plenty of trains available. The train journey takes about 40 mins, as opposed to 1hr 10 by bus (at best).

We were significantly delayed on our journey home by traffic conditions, finally arriving at Normanton just after 7pm. The feeder buses had gone, and Shearings had a fleet of taxis waiting for those needing them.

A fully satisfactory holiday which we enjoyed very much. We look forward to the next one.

We stay often at the Burlington, although we didn't this last time, but just popped in for drinks and entertainment in the evening. The bar staff are all very efficient, super friendly and some of them are hilarious (particularly Ross, who is a great little mover...!!). Scott Free is the Saturday night singer and his show is very good indeed (swing music - Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, etc.). Mark Snow (Marky Mark) the hotel's resident host is very good too and extremely popular with the guests. Seafront location.

A typical shearing hotel.Service was good, room was clean and functional staff were helpful and pleasant.Shearing management should send all their chefs here to learn how to produce a runny fried egg.Perfect runny egg every morning, congratulations!! Excellent driver on coach knowledgeable and pleasant, although jokes need upgrading!Only minor criticism was heating at times became a little overpowering.

Great location, facilities good, within easy reach of town and great walk along promenade. Meals good and entertainment in evening. Problem with shower, not strong pressure and last day no hot water. Hotel clean but the lifts NOT reliable.

We upgraded our room to a sea view and had a large, comfortable bedroom that had been refurbished. There was a problem with hot water for the shower, but that was a minor issue. If you have a sea view, however, be mindful that the hotel almost faces the pier and the main road can be quite busy with traffic and nightclub revellers will pass by at the weekend.

We also found the food good compared to other Shearings hotels and we had a lovely waitress called Maria. On our first evening a couple complained to the restaurant manager about her poor service. This was quite unjustified. Everyone had one down to dinner at once and Maria was working like. Trojan. We think she got reprimanded, which was most unfair.

The included trip out was a bit hectic, because we visited three towns. Two would have been sufficient. We didn't go on the optional tripod to the entertainment.

The hotel is relatively cheap for a short stay, but you don't get any frills. There is no shower gel in the rooms, and only one pillow each. If you want extras you have to ask for them. We did request a mattress cover, as the bed was rather hard, and were promptly supplied with one. Breakfast too if you wanted things like yoghurt and fresh fruit you had to ask for them, they weren't on view in the dining room. Personally I would prefer to pay a bit extra and have these things supplied, but I assume that this wouldn't suit everyone.

We spent the weekend at the Bay Burlington Hotel in Eastbourne and what a nice stay, checking in was very smooth even when we had turned up early. The room was on the 2nd floor towards the rear. The room especially the bathroom needs updating (refurb) but it was clean, quite and the bed was very comfortable, the TV was out of the dark ages, reception poor. The food and service were excellent especially the waitress Mariann who was great nothing too much trouble and always had a smile. The entertainment on the Friday and Sunday was very enjoyable the quiz is a great idea and the bar prices were very reasonable for a hotel. The hotel is a short walk to the town center where is plenty of choice for shopping, eating out and good value pubs. We will visit again.

This is a Shearings Hotel and as such you can expect good service normally.
We had a Standard plus room with sea view, it was excellent all that we could have wanted. This came to a stop when we went down for dinner, the waitress on the first night did not know what she was doing it took 3 attempts to get our meal correct. the next 2 evening service was OK but on the 3rd night we waited 1 hour for the starter course and a further 45 mins for the main course (the restaurant manager couldn't care a less) 5 tables in total were treated like this, the sweet course was virtually non existent as they had run out of sweets. Would I stay there again YES but only for the position.

There is no air con in our stuffy room. Hotel very hot inside. Only one lift ( holds up to 8 people) for all of the guess and cleaning staff to use. The smaller lift is for hotel staff only to porter luggage.
We stayed in this hotel for two weeks and found the menu in the hotel Dinning Room is the same every week even the chef specials, the mashed potatoes in the cottage pie tasted of powder mash. Chicken noodle soup was like yellow salty water, there was no evidence of chicken or even one strand of noodle. The cooked breakfast are good with varied selection. The staff were excellent from Reception, in the Dinning Room and the cleaning staff.

Have done a few Shearing hotels as a self drive, this was no different from most.
We were on the top floor no issues for us, lifts a little rickety only used them to go up to our room, used the back stairs to walk down at all other times.
Bed was a little hard for us but put up with it, lovely hot water all the time, took a while to work out the shower (needed more cold than hot) no worry as over the bath, yes there was a little mould, but what the hell I know how hard it is to remove it.
We had a nice view (sic) it was of the car park to the rear, it did not bother us, it was a room to sleep in, spent most if not all our time out and about.
Food no issues, slight hiccup on first meal switched us tables.. waitress very good and attentive, no real wait for meals at any time we went in, even if it was like feeding the five thousand, - very large dinning room.
Did use the bar for a single drink every night .. did not pay much attention to the entertainment, other than we heard the droning voice of the bingo caller ugh.
Check out very easy.
Only grip access to car park appeared to be via a staff door !.
But overall good for us - no real issues.

A very nice Hotel. This was our 2nd visit to the Hotel. Food is a very high standard. Very friendly and helpful staff. We were there the Week of the Eastbourne Air Show, it was very warm and 'Muggy' and the Hotel was very warm. We were supplied with a free Fan for our Room. There are Ceiling Fans in the Restaurant. Smokers have to go outside and they congregate just outside the Main Entrance Doorway on the Steps and the downside of this is the smoke can drift in to the Bar/Lounge area, just inside! I have to use a 'Mobility Scooter' and there is a room on Ground Floor next to Lifts where Scooters are able to be charged! Wheelchairs are allowed in the Lift. We had a room just next to lift for this reason. There is regular Evening Entertainment should you wish to see it. The Rooms are big and spacious, the rooms on the front have Sea View. The Hotel is right on the 'Front', a minute or so from the Pier.

My husband and I along with my sister and brother in law spent bank holiday weekend in the Bay Burlington as a last minute break. Right on the seafront, opposite the pier, the location was perfect, we walked all the way along the coast to Beachy Head, had lunch and came back. The rooms were fine, clean, plenty of hot water and fluffy towels with well stocked tea and coffee making facilities. The food was extremely good, hot tasty and fresh and our young waitress a total delight, nothing was too much trouble for her and her smile never left her face. We had been advised that there was entertainment in the hotel and that it was aimed at the older guest, we are all in our 40's and found Marc hilarious and infectious, we laughed along with him all weekend. It had a feel of a hotel from a bygone age (oh dear, it's lucky we didn't need to use the lifts) and gave us a warm fuzzy feeling, will definitely be back

Have just a fabulous 7 day break which was so enjoyable that I forgot about the horrible weather. The whole experience gets more enjoyable with each visit. The food gets even better and the service from all staff at this hotel is fantastic. The location is ideal and the surrounding areas are magnificent in all weathers.
