Just spent a pleasant few days in Eastbourne with friends in the Burlington hotel. The food is good value and the staff very pleasant and helpful. The actual hotel is very run down and the corridors and doors need a good clean. We had renovated rooms but fixtures were already needing attention. There was also a problem with the heating which turned itself on in the heat of summer and the whole hotel was unbearably hot.
The entertainment was ok, but the exceptional comedian/pianist Ray Campbell was the highlight.

Stayed here before - Hotel is in need of some refurb but the rooms are pleasant, food good and staff excellent. On the front so very good for elderly folk as the prom is easily accessible - Part of the Bay group so a lot of Shearing coaches coming and going

Visited in July with my Mom and Dad. We stayed there mainly for the location, which is second to none. The hotel caters mainly for the older clientele so was suprised to discover there was no disabled access to the main front door into the hotel, I thought all buildings had to provide full access for the disabled. To access the hotel with a wheelchair you had to go through the restaurant and out through an emergency exit door which gave access to the front of the building. The lifts in the building were also inadequate for the overall size of the hotel. My room was supposed to have a shower but it didn't work. The holiday was good but could have been improved due to the accessability in to the hotel and up to the rooms.

Just returned from our second 8 day stay with Shearings this year and not dissappointed. The hotel is a little tired but very clean. The staff are second to none. The entertainment is always fun hosted by Mark Snow. Reception, dining room, and room maids are always pleasant and obliging. The hotel is superbly placed for the town shops and the beautiful promenade. Walks along the front are a must to the Holywell retreat where a reasonable little cafe is waiting with refreshments. For those who find the walk too far a road train runs along the prom at a cost of £4 return.Hope to see you in the autumn Burlington.

We have just returned from a 3 nights stay here with a Shearings holiday, The hotel is lovely and clean we had a spacious seafront twin room. The hotel is ideally placed for the lovely beach or the shops. The staff at the hotel where helpful and polite, our waitress most days was a young girl with tattoos (sorry didn't find out her name) she couldn't do enough for us and was always smiling and courteous, a real credit to the hotel.
The food was standard for a bay hotel, the bar staff were again very helpful and friendly. I do have a few gripes though
Entertainment was quite poor and the Saturday night cabaret a real let down.
It's great that Shearings collect your cases from your room 45 minutes before breakfast therefore you expect It to be completed before everyone goes down to breakfast 45 minutes later, but no lifts could be used due to the fact they were being used for the cases a lot of people had to wait quite a long while for a lift or attempt the stairs the rush through breakfast to get on the coach.
Lastly reception staff after checkin there was no reception staff to be found at all, after waiting over half an hour with another guest we both gave up and in the evening one of the bar staff kindly helped the best he could with my queries as again there was no reception staff other guests also mentioned this.
Overall a nice place to stay.

Stayed at the Burlington for a week. We drove ourselves down, but most guests were on coach trips. We had a lovely big room overlooking the beach and the pier, with a big bathroom with a lovely large shower. The rest of the hotel needs some upgrading, particularly the lifts and the conservatory. The food was always good but the service could be slow in the evenings, mainly due to the waiting staff having too many tables to look after. The staff however are lovely. The dining room was also too hot, with no working air conditioning. The WiFi service was intermittent and non existent in most of the hotel, not good enough in this day and age. The hotel is in an ideal spot for exploring Eastbourne and the surrounding countryside.

We were a party of six returning for our 4th time. Everything much the same, staff very good, especially Mary on reception who was very helpful, and Mark entertainments Manager an all round good entertainer. But what let it down was the dining. They have changed the morning breakfast to buffet style which is fine if you make sure people have plates and food topped up. The waiters are so rushed off their feet you may or may not get a drink with your breakfast. The evening meals the food was awful, no jugs of water on the table, lucky if you got a roll, and because they are so rushed waited forever. We ate out most nights. Will not be returning to the Burlington.

Because i went with a group of friends and the weather very good , i had a good week break . rainy and on my own would have been awful .
I has a nice enough clean room, comfy bed , and shower.
A side view of the street and could see the sea . Just outside front door of hotel was main road , you need to cross the road for a nice walk along the prom and go on pier .
I found that the rest of the group i went with had awful rooms some had bars on the windows . creaky floor boards above woke me very early in the morning .
The entertainment every evening was better than nothing but old fashioned .
The breakfast was good but the evening meal could have been better .
All the staff very very nice and helpful .

Hotel with a great location for seafront, shops and public transport.
Brought a coach party (not Shearings) to the Burlington last week and first impressions were of how helpful the staff are. From their new recruit Jack who moved all of our bags to our rooms to lovely Anna the assistant manager and everyone in between they could not have been more helpful and willing to please. Yes - the hotel needs some improvement. Yes - the temperature in the hotel was too high (we were lucky with the weather). Do not listen to people grumbling on trip advisor - we did not pay for a 4* hotel - what we did get was what we paid for and more. The food while not cordon bleu was more than adequate especially the breakfast. Our party of 38 were given a private dining room and two dedicated members of staff, George and Francesca, who gave us first class service and are to be commended for their hard work and friendly faces. The bar staff working under Sean and Ewa did an excellent job. Housekeeping were on the ball and we had fresh towels every day! Mark Snow is a gem and we had a lot of fun during the evening - "Did you get it?" is our new catchphrase. Wifi a bit temperamental. Very comfy beds. In room lighting could be brighter. This is not a hotel for youngsters - our average age was a very young 70 odd and if we return to Eastbourne this is where we'll go with a smile on our faces :-)

We organised 38 bowlers to stay at the Bay Burlington Hotel Eastbourne on the seafront.
We have just arrived back on friday afternoon I must say the staff at the hotel tried their very best to make us all very welcome.
The hotel is located in a great position on the seafront very close to the pier and a reasonably short walk to the town centre.
As we have not paid 5 star price for the hotel you cannot expect a luxurious hotel, however the rooms were very clean ,the food was very nice , and we had entertainment most evenings.
I must now say how wonderful the staff were to us,Anna the assistant manager came out to welcome us and said a few words of welcome on the coach, as we are no spring chickens all our baggage was taken off the coach for us and put in our rooms.
We were very lucky and they had a separate dining room which catered for all of us and we had sole use of during the week which allowed us to give our daily prizes out without disturbing other guests.
George who was our waiter could not have been more helpful ,the staff behind the bar were also very friendly ,and Francesco was really good.
Now we arrive at Mark the entertainer he was brilliant just helping to make our week at the Bay Burlington the best he could we even had a group photo with him.
Well done you lot you made it a great week .

Last Aug/Sept, we stayed at the Burlington and it wasn't great, in fact, i said i wouldn't go back. But.........we've just come back from an 8 day break with Shearings and this time we had no complaints. We did pay for the upgraded room with a Sea View and it was well worth the extra as the room seemed recently refurbished and did have a great view. The bathroom was a good size but the shower did seem to lack pressure. As usual the staff were all very friendly & helpful. We had a trainee waiter for the first couple of days who was very friendly but a bit on the slow side but after they changed round, service was a lot quicker. All the food was very nice (the beef was a bit tough) and i liked the self service breakfast, the chef kept everything topped up well. The hotel always seems pretty hot so we asked for a fan in our room. One improvement i would suggest would be be to stop all the smokers standing on the steps outside the main entrance, not only is it horrible to have to walk through the smoke, it doesn't create a very good image for the hotel. We had a lovely time (the weather could've been a bit better) and would return to The Burlington again but only if we could upgrade the room.

Went with Shearings to this hotel on a mid week break. The hotel is large overlooking the sea. Was clean, tidy. Just needed a bit of updating here and there. We were in room 229 which was lovely. We had to pay extra has my husband needs a walk in shower. The food was ok nothing special. Like the new buffet service for breakfast, is alot better.

We enjoy staying in the Coast & Country Hotel chain around the UK so we decided to try their sister group, Bay Hotels as they are in different locations. We wanted to explore the new South Downs National Park so Eastbourne was a perfect choice.
A 3 night break, half board, with a sea view, and a parking spot, all for £300!
Our room was well decorated, spacious, with flat screen TV, and 3 single chairs and table, and a view to watch holiday makers on the pier! All very good.
The breakfast was self selection and tasty, whilst the evening meals always had a good choice, and was always presented nicely and served hot. (Unusually, there was always two potato dishes with each meal, any 2 from new potatoes/chips/roast/sliced).
Staff were always cheerful and helpful, plenty of lounge seating, and an opportunity to watch The Euro's in the coffee bar! There was entertainment each night although we skipped the opportunity as we don't play bingo, and enjoyed a promenade walk to The Band Stand to listen to the evening tribute band!
The only negative comment is the lack of lift space, as one lift has a maximum 4 people, whilst 'the coffin' holds 2. The hotel has 4 floors and 20 rooms per floor occupied by many 'over 75,s' who are unable to use the staircase.
Overall, if you don't mind staying in a hotel that needs a little TLC, the break is very good value for money!

This hotel has a great position right opposite the seafront and gardens and very close to the pier. We travelled with a group mostly over 60 years of age.I would say this hotel is more suitable for the older holiday maker. Our room was very clean but also very hot for some reason. We were there for one week and towels were only changed once which I found very unusual.
The restaurant was also very warm and rather crowded. The breakfast was the best meal of the day, but I feel there should have been more choice. The only fruit on offer was grapefruit, The cooked breakfast was very good , if you like that sort of thing every morning.
The evening meals were not very good at all. there seemed to be little planning of meals so therefore there was a lot of waste, The evening entertainment every evening was also very much the same. All in all not a bad holiday but I would not return to the Burlington.

I went for a 5 day break. Hotel in great position on sea front near the pier and close to all amenities and bus stops. Short walk into town with excellent variety of shops, banks and restaurants. All staff very friendly although on my first morning one of the waitresses was a bit huffy! Luggage is delivered to room by hardworking porters and housekeeping staff lovely and friendly. My room was immaculate and bed very comfortable. Curtains need to be properly hung at the top and bottom shelf in wardrobe should have been dusted after last visitor. Although only minor points. Floorboards are creaky but added to the ambience for me. The negative point for me was the porridge which was watery and of a 'glue' substance and the fact that my room was above a Cafe Bar which I found very noisy of an evening. I know that Eastbourne has a vibrant atmosphere with its many bars but I personally would not have wanted to stay above one. I did mention the noise but was not offered the chance to move rooms as previous reviewer.

Stayed here for4 nights as part of a Shearings coach holiday midweek break. Great location right on the seafront overlooking the pier and the carpet gardens. Very friendly and helpful staff. We had a recently refurbished room at the back of the hotel which was perfectly fine. The bedroom and the bathroom were however very hot and the window only opens a few inches (presumably for safety). The dining room was also uncomfortably hot. The food itself was good, especially the buffet style breakfast which had delicious bacon, sausages and very fresh eggs. The service at dinner was sometimes a little slow and it would have been nice to have larger portions of vegetables with the evening meals. Bar staff were excellent and the selection of wines was very good. We didn't experience the evening entertainment as this is not our personal taste but the live singers and bingo were very popular with the more senior guests at the hotel. I was disappointed to find that the bathroom towels were not changed, even when I left the used towels in the bath in the usual way. I did ask at reception for a change of towels but this did not happen and I didn't ask a second time. Overall a satisfactory hotel but not one for a special occasion.

From checking in to leaving the staff were friendly, approachable and professional. The day we checked in is obviously a busy day as several coaches also had arrived. We drove to the hotel but we were still offered help to our room by the busy porters. No hassle getting to our room. Room was tired but spotlessly clean and that is what matters to me.
We had breakfast and evening meal. Breakfast buffet was fresh and plentiful. Dinner was a set menu but very good each night. Vegetables served separately which was really nice. We liked the fact that you didn't have to book for dinner. All the staff were lovely, you can see that they work hard but still had a smile. Thank you Bay Burlington Hotel staff for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Had a two night stay here was supposed to have bought our mum with us but she didn't come ,as we had initially planned this around her wasn't sure if we'd enjoy it, but we ended up having a great weekend, Our sea view rooms were adequate, so was the food, Our only comments are , yes the hotel could do with bigger lifts, and on the weekend we visited the road to get to the hotel car park there was a diversion in place, so got a bit frustrated driving round to find it then were faced with a chain across it!! One this was sorted we had nice relaxing time

The room was clean but sparse, not enough drawer space. Bathroom had nowhere to put toiletries.
The lifts and corridors are scruffy and need a refurb.
Rear exit to car park not really suitable for anyone elderly or infirm, perhaps this should be noted.
The main complaint about our 4 night stay was the disappointing food. This is our 4th stay at the Burlington, but this year the quality of food has definitely gone down. The quantity was not a problem but the quality was very poor and everybody was sending lots of the food back wasted. We will not be returning to this hotel and would not recommend to others.
