This was my sister and I's fourth stay in a Bay hotel and the Burlington did not disappoint. Brilliant location on prom by pier and a few steps away from main shopping centre. Our room at the rear had a view of the South Downs and an unusual bathroom accessed by a few steps down. Good comfy bed, good linen, hot (very, very) hot water. Half board three course meals as ever, always consistently very good. The four free drinks each on the Saturday night were a bonus. Staff very friendly and helpful. The only criticism was there was not a 'quiet' lounge to sit in other than the few seats in the sunlounge. Main ballroom had bingo, then a quiz then the entertainment at 9.30pm, it was a little too brightly lit and noisy for our taste. All in all a Bay Hotel is still brilliant value and we will book again.

Just returned from a long Weekend Break organised by Shearings. Shearings were from start to finish outstanding.
My review is for The Bay Burlington Hotel, a Beautiful Old Building set in an Idylic position in Eastbourne.
Yes is some areas there are signs of shabbiness. But it is Clean.Bed Linen and Towels were just fine. The Hotel is very Busy so it is obvious that wear and tear will occur.. I do have a few gripes. We upgraded to a room with a view overlooking the Pier and Gardens.,lovely..... But please there is room for a Chair in the Bathroom to avoid the Balancing on one leg syndrome I am past my tender years so there is a risk of falling. There is no place to put toiletries apart from the floor. It is obvious the lifts are inadequate for the amount of Clients, many people in wheelchairs or using walking Aids...The Hotel everywhere was unpleasantly hot.Entertainment was good.
Food..... I personally found a very hit and miss in quality. I returned two main courses from Evening Dinner. Burnt Lasagne, and inedible Mushroom Stroganoff ( the latter was quite dreadful)... There was much confusion, first courses wrong orders delivered to table. Chaotic ! ..Breakfast was like bun Fight......This was brought to the attention of Restaurant Manager..who did not apologise or rectify, he just disappeared....
I do think the Food was the most dissapointing feature of the Weekend.. Quality not quantity is what counts. The Food Failed this...... Eastbourne is a lovely Resort.. I will return but not sure if it would be to The Burlington.

A pleasant late winter break with shearing hotel is quite clean standards in rooms vary our room looked to have been recently modernised next door had not food was excellent with plenty of choice staff excellent friendly couldn't do enough for you we had a young lady called Beatrix super my only concern was security while we stayed here a room on the 4 floor was broken into and staff told us this was not the first incident the reception is set to the left of the main entrance and the access to the stairs and. Lifts to the right couple this with a bar and cafe open to the public means little or no control over who has access to the bedrooms and the locks on the doors are nor substantial our room 300 looked like if you put your shoulder hard against it it would go an there appears to be marks where someone had tried to jemmy the door a worry that while on holiday you don't need

We enjoyed a lovely Shearings Midweek break at this hotel in February 2017 and from the bus trip down to the bus trip back it was brilliant. The hotel Manager, Christine, welcomed everyone on arrival and the receptionists booked all the guests it quickly and professionally. The room we were issued was very comfortable, clean and modern. The view from our bedroom window of the promenade and pier, and of course the rolling waves that lapped the shore, were spectacular. The hotel dining room is large and beautiful as is the bar area and lounge? Some areas of the hotel were still in need of renovation but all in all we were very happy with the hotel and the accommodation. The breakfast was very good and as it was self service you could choose your own mix; the evening meal was served by your waiter/waitress and was well cooked and well presented. All the staff throughout the hotel were attentive and very polite and nothing was too much trouble, the receptionists in particular. The entertainment manager was a good laugh and the guests joined in with the bingo and the quizzes which made you use your brain a bit. The acts were also good and worth listening to. All in all we would like to thank Christine and her team at the Burlington, and to Peter our Shearings driver, for making our midweek break very enjoyable. Well done.

Just recently returned after a 3 night weekend stay at Bay Burlington and were very happy right from the start which was the good welcome at reception and then to our sea view room which was very clean and plenty of room and seating, well worth paying the extra for a sea view. The receptionist even met us at the car park to unlock the barrier, car park was also extra but saves looking around side streets. The food was excellent, well presented meals and again excellent service. The rooms were well maintained every day. The entertainment was superb, many thanks to Marky for that, he is a super star and a lovely person. I would have given 5 stars but the shower was terrible, only a trickle due to no pressure, water into the bath took forever. This was on the 4th floor (417). All in all, super hotel, staff and all aspects of the hotel.

Stayed at the Burlington on a weekend on a Shearings coach tour. Lovely hotel on the seafront. Close to town centre and bars. Hotel was warm and comfortable. Staff very friendly nothing was too much trouble. Food was nice and always hot. Breakfast was buffet style and excellent choice of cereal, porridge, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, tomatoes, eggs, which you can have poached fried boiled scrambled. Toast, jam tea and coffee. Entertainment, hosted by Marky, was very good. Rooms were very nice. No complaints from us. Will definitely visit again.

My husband and myself booked this S hearings break as my husband is recovering from stomach cancer I read a few different review sites and was becoming concerned I had made a mistake. But what a surprise the hotel facilities and staff so far are excellent. When I checked in I was given a upgrade and the room is perfect room 109 spacious clean and has a feature so special to us as previous to my husband getting the cancer we loved the sea and this room has a full size window that opens facing the sea so we are able to hear the waves perfect. The first nights meal was excellent and suitable for my husbands condition. We spent the evening in the entertainment area and was so relaxed we enjoyed the entertainment from Mark and laughed all night. The buffet style breakfast I have just eaten was also lovely. I am here until Friday and expect these standards to continue . The moral of this early review is do not be concerned about other reviews you read as what I have found with Shearings is if something is not to your standard speak to them as they try there best to make everything brilliant. Good value for money and will return.

We stayed here after another hotel cancelled our booking last minute.

We booked through late rooms and was a little worried when we got there and they have no booking on their system. Thankfully the very helpful reception staff sorted this out.

The corridors looked a little tired but the room was lovely, really spacious and with a lovely view. All clean and had everything we needed.

A problem we had was that the room was super warm. We turned the heating off and opened the windows but still felt like we were cooking. This could of course, just be our preference and we could have been surrounded by others in their rooms who had heating on.

Also, the bed was too hard for us...but again, there was nothing wrong with it...just what we prefer.

Thank you for a pleasant stay.

We have just spent a three night break at The Burlington on a Shearings coach tour.We have visited many Bay hotels but i think that the Burlington is probably the best.It is very well situated on the seafront about a ten minute walk from the town centre which is a very good shopping area (Arndale centre, T J Hughes wetherspoons etc )
The hotel itself is a typical Victorian building, A lot of refurbishment seems to have taken place, other areas i,e the corridors do need attention. Our room on the third floor was of a good size with plenty of storage it was at the back of the hotel, very Quite and heated to a very pleasant temperature. The bedroom and bathroom appeared to have been recently decorated, my only small complaint would be the lack of a decent shelf in the bathroom.
Food in the restaurant was good with a reasonable choice and exceptionally good service, the buffet breakfast was top class, well cooked warm and of good quality.
Unlike the last couple of Bay Hotels we have stayed in The Burlington has a resident host / compare (Mark) who works very hard to make the evenings enjoyable
with the usual Bingo,Quiz and Cabaret act, he certainly succeeds in creating a good atmosphere,Bar prices were as you would expect in a South Coast hotel - beer £3.75, bottle of wine £15,
Overall for its value for money, good service, food and Exceptionally pleasant staff the Burlington is a hotel i would not hesitate to recommend'

I was a bit worried about some of the reviews I had read before going on this Shearings coach break about this hotel ,but I was pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel has a few issues here and there but that adds to its charm ,the staff are all nice ,its clean and warm ,and the entertainment is the evening is great fun ,and the food is good ,what more do you want for the small price you pay .And best of all its right on the sea front .
The only down side for me was our Shearings coach driver did,nt know anything at all about the places we visited on our excursions ,she was one of the poorest drivers we have had .but never mind it was still a nice break.

I went to this hotel for a weekend break, it included drinks vouchers on Saturday. The bedroom was comfortable with a good bed, but the room was sea facing and not double glazed, noise at night from passing vehicles. The shower was poor lacking power, reported to reception but did not improve. There were two lifts, but one was very small and remained out of service most of the weekend. The food was good, buffet breakfast with a good choice, Evening meal was waiter served. I would probably not stay here again.

I have just retuned from a pleasant stay in this hotel.
I was delighted with the location....almost opposite the pier and close to the shops.
The staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and friendly.
I was in a single room (437) for which I had to pay a supplement. It was quite small with a single bed. It had a very narrow bathroom. Anyone over a size 14 would struggle to use the loo it's so narrow.
The room decor was a little 'tired' but was immaculately clean.
The towels were clean but very tatty. The 'bath towel' was very small, frayed and had a big hole in it. Such a shame this was put in the room, it created a bad impression. With hindsight I should have asked for this to be changed.
My main concern was the shower. The hot water became dangerously hot very quickly, and with no proper mixer unit on the tap...it was almost impossible to regulate the temperature. I gave up in the end and ran a bath. There is a tiny sticker on the wall stating the water is very hot, but it could easily be missed. It would have been good if this had been mentioned on the hotel information sheet that is placed on the bed.
The meals provided by Berties and the main restaurant were very good.
The buffet style breakfast was excellent with lots of choice.
The bar was well stocked and the bar staff were very pleasant. They handled a couple of rude customers very well and showed great patience with customers who found it hard to make a selection.
The evening entertainment was great.
Overall, for what I paid for 3 nights Half Board, this well located hotel offers excellent value for money, with the added bonus of great staff.
Yes, I would stay at this hotel again.

This was a return to the Burlington Hotel and I was very disappointed. The room we had was very nice and looked newly refurbish, with a lovely double walk-in shower and lots of hot water. It was the resturant which was the great disappointment. The service was very bad, having to wait 35/45 minutes for our main meal, and with parts of the meal missing or not available. The food which had always been excellent was of poor quality and tastless. It certainly made us not wish to return

Having done many Shearing breaks over the years, we decided to take our dad for a break on the 1st weekend of January. Despite asking for a room with disabled access, the room had a small step leading into it. Also, the toilet and shower had no handrails so it was quite difficult for our dad as he is used to a shower seat at home. He did manage to shower but only after we put plastic over the chair in the room and put it in the shower tray.

There was no wheelchair access to the reception area. Instead, you have to enter through the dining room. This proved quite difficult on arrival as the taxi driver did not know about this entrance. Dad can fortunately mobilise but it was difficult to negotiate suitcases, a walking frame and and a folded wheelchair up the few steps.

The meals were ok with a reasonable choice for the 3 courses. The breakfast service is much better now it has become buffet style. Even though there is a very wide variety of cereals and cooked food, there is also an option to order something from the kitchen.

As we have been on other Shearing holidays, the entertainment can be hit and miss but on this occasion,it was very good, if a little cheesy.

You have to sign up to cloud for WiFi access. Despite signing up, I didn't get access but I wasn't bothered by this.

The reception and eating areas were very welcoming. The bar was also reasonably priced with a good choice of wines, spirits and cocktails.

Some of the TVs are very old, showing only 5 channels. Some of our group had modern, flatscreen TVs with Freeview so there is evidence these are being replaced.

My biggest concern are the hallways and rooms which are in need of refurbishment. The corridor where the majority of our group stayed, including my dad,had a musty, damp smell. The carpets were also worn. I also understand, a few of the bathrooms leaked causing problems for the properties above and below.

Overall, a very pleasant weekend break, but rooms and corridors are in need of refurbishment. Also needs a ramp as well as steps by the main entrance.

Returned to the burlington, we had a bargain 5 day break, with national holidays this time. Once again no complaints whatsoever. Our journey down to Eastbourne was quick and easy, no hold ups or delays and the same on our return although bad weather had been predicated. As always experienced in our previous visits we had a good time. The hotel was warm and the bedrooms are quite comfortable, and the food is more than adequate, buffet breakfast, with cereal etc., full English always plenty for everyone, toast etc, the waitress service was good, bea, was a lovely girl, pleasant always smiling, and a word for everyone, couldn't fault her at all., she served the evening meal with a smile every night. The entertainment was good, bingo, quiz dancing and cabaret every evening, mark is the main man, he is liked by everyone and tries to make everyone enjoy themselves. The weather was good, a bit rain, but it is January!! All in all a very good break, will return again without any hesitation. See you all soon!!

The Burlington is supposedly the best hotel in Eastbourne however it is sadly in need of some serious money spending on it since internally it's really sad and in dire need of brightening up.

I can't fault the food in the restaurant; both the breakfasts and the three-course evening meals offered enough choice to satisfy the pickiest eater and the quality of the food was superb even if a little on the cool side at times.

By far the worst thing for me was my bumpy, lumpy bed resulting in poor quality sleep on each of the four nights I spent there.

The floorboards shook each time someone walked along the floor.

The water pressure was so poor in the shower and it was very difficult to control the temperature resulting in extremely poor bathing experiences.

This hotel is ideally situated along the seafront and in very close proximity to local buses and the pier.

We stayed four days & had no hot water or heating we wasn't inform by staff we were told by other guest , manage not helpful sound bored when talking to you,
We had a Sea view room which we paid for was very nice & clean very dull in decor
Food was ok not much choice, waiter was rushed of his feet so food just put on table for us to sort who's was who's ,
Entertainment wasn't much on new year eve there was a dj , comedian & a guitarist player who were ok but they all did the same songs so we heard same songs 3 times ,
Then they were still playing music at2.30 in the morning some guest complained saying it was staff.
No soft seating down in tepee lounge area so couldn't relax with paper & cuppa
We been to 4 different hotels with shearing & this was the worst , that bad we never going again,
