Had a lovely 5 day break 2nd to 6th March, hotel is a little dated in places, but our room was very nice clean and recently refurbished, with a lovely sea view room 421. Food breakfast is lovely with everything to choose from the hot and cold buffet, evening meal there is a choice of 3,starter's 3 main courses and 3 sweets and a chefs special all food we had was lovely. All staff were very helpful and friendly, especially the bar staff and evening entertainment was good each night with bingo, quiz and a different artist each night, a special mention to Mark Snow who made the evenings. Could not fault National Holidays at all and our driver for the week Ashley was very informative. .

I visited this hotel last weekend with my family. Our rooms were very comfortable and clean. Breakfast and dinner were both very tasty although could have been warmer. There are lots of local shops and restaurants/cafes too which filled up our days nicely. Christine the GM welcomed us upon our arrival on Friday and Ivone on reception was kind and informative. We had 4 free drinks each on Saturday night which was a pleasant surprise! Isabella the bar manager was entertaining and helpful. This is a very nice hotel, situated in a perfect spot in this lovely town and I will definitely visit again

This budget hotel is situated in a good position on Eastbourne Sea front, it is clean, my bed was comfortuble, and the room was fine The general problems this hotel has are the same as the other Bay Hotels that I've stayed in.
Although my room was fine, and the heaters working, some other guests that I spoke to had a simular problem to myself in another Bay Hotel, namely a cold room. Further to that, the evening meals have much to be desired. Small portions, some soups with a good helping of H.20, packet soups no doubt, but the big laugh was Thursday Fish & Chips. The fish, haddock was fish mush, not a flaky fish, but here is the laugh, mushy peas ! ! Yes, you got mushy peas, no kidding, a teaspoonfull. Before my return,I was in mind to buy a bag of frozen mushy peas as a treat for the guests next Thursday !
No problem with Breakfast, fine, but how long before hole of polo mint lands on Bay Hotels menue's ?

The hotel is good and the staff are pleasant. Our room 106 was very good as it looked it had been refurbished due to fire next door.
The evening food was cold and the veg sparce and full of water in the bowl.
The breakfast was exellent with top quality bacon.
Staff were pleasant as well.
We went on a trip to Battle and Hastings which were good but could have done with bit longer in Hastings ( interesting place. )

Just returned from a great week-end at the Burlington Hotel, Eastbourne on a Shearings coach trip. The hotel is very clean with good decor. Staff were very helpful and polite. I had a very nice single room which was very comfortable and nicely decorated.Food in the hotel was very good and with good service. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment each night while we were there, with a quiz each night and bingo on two nights. Debbie was very entertaining. The comedian on Saturday night was very funny and a lad named Andrew who entertained us with his singing on Sunday evening, was very good. Hotel is not far from the main shops. We had a really good time a and definitely will go back.

Originally booked holiday to stay at Majestic, Shearings changed this as Majestic not open (no reason given). Was not happy (please see review April 2017) but accepted offer as needed break.

As previous journey down and reception/allocation of room efficiently done. Room on 4th floor, next to fire escape but very quiet apart from squeaky floorboards when leaving my room. room good size and very comfortable bed, bit of a draught from window but I survived.

Food V good but small portions. Service also V good as in fact were all staff. Entertainment mainly average and as mentioned in other reviews OK if you liked old time dancing and bingo,

Yes still an old building "creaking" in places but 200 % better than last visit. Would not put anyone off staying but don't expect the Mayfair hotel standards. You mainly get what you pay for.

Went on Shearings coach holiday. The hotel has had some TLC due to the fire in the hotel next door, located on the sea front and a 15 minute walk to the main shopping area in Eastbourne, due to road closure in front of the hotel you need about to walk 15 minutes to get to a bus stop. As a single traveller i had a reasonably sized room with a good size bathroom. All the staff i came in contact with were excellent and were very efficient, felt really looked after at meal times and at the bar. On the negative and this is my opinion was the entertainment seemed dated and stuck in the 70's music put on for dancers seemed to be aimed at couples wanting to Rhumba/ foxtrot and no other type of dance music, this i found strange they didnt cater to other dance genres when only a handful of couples came out to do ballroom dancing. Dated act on the last night was midly amusing a good organ player but again dated comedy and music, atleast other Bay hotels i have been to try to cover more decades of music. This may be there target audience and this may put me off from returning here which is a shame as its the fronline staff that make this hotel a possible 5 star review but i marked it down for the entertainment.

Not one of shearings better hotels. Room and frontage of hotel very run down and dated. Bedding clean. Food ok but far from good. Entertainment good. Still value for money. Hotel hindered by claremont ruins from fire next door and limited access to burlington as a result

Although we have stayed before at this hotel we have never had the whole package of bed, breakfast and evening meal, we were impressed with food, all varied with an excellent choice and plenty of flavour. Every member of staff that we spoke to were friendly and helpful, but one member of staff from the restaurant really stood out for her consideration and attention in making our experience special, her name was Helga and it was a pleasure to meet her.

We had a 5 day break meeting up with friends. The Burlington is an old hotel and like most needs some tender care.
We had an upgraded room which was huge with huge bed and bathroom clean and comfy.
Staff helpful and always polite food good I’m vegetarian and if there wasn’t a dish I liked the salads were excellent.
We celebrated my friends husband’s birthday and pad extra in the night for steaks and fresh salmon it was superb ( I eat fish ) Good entertainment Mark is brilliant we need more like him in Shearings hotels.
Kevin our driver excellent with so much knowledge and enjoyed all the trips took the bus to Hastings for a day out.
We have stayed at the majestic many times but thought we would try the Burlington and great choice will be back again thank you all ...

Went with Shearings in Jan. hotel is fine, very hot room when I tried to open window it was completely jammed so told reception, was told the windows opened. A maintenance man came and he had a job opening it. Old hotels like this do warp so why make out it was me. Food not bad, soup watery sometimes and the turkey escalates were inedible, even the waitress said they were being sent back uneaten. These are budget holidays so can,t really complain to much about food as the chef has a fixed budget to work with. Room clean, beds comfy. Reception staff pleasant enough except one who thought he was superior so looked down his nose at the bus loads of peasants who turn up in his eyes. Trips out were good and the driver Kevin was very informative, he had so much knowledge of the area, and since we go on coach tours to see and hear about the UK it was a privilege to be on his coach. Would I go back to the Burlington maybe not as I don,t like being treated like a second class citizen.

Excellent hotel, with excellent staff. I went with Shearings with my wife and and two friends. The room was comfortable as was the bed. Meals were very good and promptly brought to our table. Empties were quickly removed by the lovely staff. My wife is Gluten and Lactose free and was catered for perfectly by the staff who understood the problem. Nothing was too much trouble. Entertainment was fairly good in the evening. Quite a few of us danced. We were in room 226 which had creaky floorboards lol. The shower was very good. Decor was fresh and clean as was the room. There is a lift to all floors. All in all a lovely experience, recommended.

We went here weekend before last and found the hotel very good. The dining room staff were excellent, very pleasant and smiling at all times, The food was good, very varied and piping hot. Location was good. Entertainment was fine .Rooms quite big and one of the best we have stayed in from Shearings. Our room was very warm and the only criticism I would have is that there didn't seem to be enough lifts to cope with the amount of guests. Room service was good also very friendly staff. Would recommend

Went on a Shearing's Holiday and can't fault this hotel. The food was definitely the best of any Shearing's I have stayed in. A table was allocated in the dining room and it was ours for the duration (do wish other Shearing's hotels would go back to this method). Had a snack one lunch time which was lovely and fresh and cooked to order.

Room 406 sea view upgrade was well worth the extra. Excellent view of the pier and waves rolling in.

All staff were very helpful and reception always manned, quick efficient book in. We couldn't have wished for a better driver - Kevin - who usually does the Midland tours.

My room 432 was pleasant and warm but the bathroom was best suited to a nimble stick insect as it was very narrow, the bath sides were high and there was little elbow room around the loo - I found it quite difficult to use.
The food was the usual Shearings offering. I generally enjoyed the meals but I found the Saturday night menu rather repetitive: soup, chicken wings, prawn and smoked salmon parfait/ chicken leg, seafood crumble, veg lasagne and a chef's special of pasta carbonara/ orange and lemon sponge, lemon tart, icecream or cheese&bix . See what I mean about seafood, chicken, pasta and lemon all cropping up more than once? Given that I don't like fish nor chicken on the bone, I thought that particular menu could have been better planned.
Tea and coffee after the meal seemed to be a well kept secret! Having stayed before, I went through to the coffee bar which was deserted apart from a staff member collecting something. On asking her if Shearings still did coffee after a meal, I was directed back to my table and advised that the waitress would fetch me one. The following evening, another guest saw me drinking coffee and I overheard them say that coffee was listed on the bottom of the menu - it was barely noticeable in white against a turquoise background right at the bottom of the page and on Sunday's menu it wasn't there at all!
This was my second visit to this well situated hotel. It was good value for money and Eastbourne is a lovely place so I will be returning.

We stayed at this hotel on a weekend break with Shearings . When stepping off the bus the first thing we noticed were road barriers. This is because the hotel next door is burnt out, just a shell remaining. After checking in we took the lift to the 4th floor. (only one lift is working). It is the chattiest lift I have ever been in ,looks as if it has not been renovated since the hotel was built. We followed directions along the the floor creaking ,door squeaking ,corridor .When we finally got there it looked as though somebody had had a go with a jemmy to get in as the door jar was splintered with bear wood showing. However once inside the room it was clean ,tidy and warm and there were ample tea and coffee making provisions. The bathroom was fine with a shower over the bath but there was very little water pressure so the shower hardly worked. This was reported and two days later it did seem better.
The food was fine for mas catering but he wife was a little put off by the rent-a-kill boxes at the side of the table.
There is entertainment of some kind on every night ,and the resident host Mark works hard to make you relax and feel welcome . The bar prices are quite a bit higher than we are used to but I guess they have to make the money somewhere.
Even with all its faults we really enjoyed the weekend and it was excellent value for money.

Went to the Burlington hotel with shearing's 13th December to meet up with my sister and brother in law for our Christmas get together they also booked in the hotel as well. We were a bit worried as to what we would find with the hotel next door having such a bad fire. We found that there had been some water damage to the far end of the hotel but it was closed off to the rest of the hotel. as usual all the staff were very helpful, food was of good standard and plentiful. we upgraded to a sea view room that was very clean and big. The entertainment was very good to. The man on Sunday evening, sorry can't remember his name, he was excellent and kept us laughing all night. We have been to this hotel many times to meet up with family and looking forward to return later this year. Highley recommend it

Hotel was warm, clean and staff were helpful, pleasant. Meals were varied with a good choice. Most of the guests were of a mature age but could certainly move when the dining room doors were opened. Day trip to Brighton included and I can recommend a visit to the Pavilion.

Just back from another very pleasant stay at one of our favourite hotels. Every time we go we find that something else has been added to our creature comforts. In our humble opinion the hotel has come a very long way indeed since our first visit back in 2006. Those who are complaining should have come in those days! We have never had an issue with any member of staff in all these years. You will never please all of the people all of the time and sadly it's too often the very few moaners who shout loudest. Congratulations to all, especially the regulars who have been on the team for ever and have coped admirably with the knock on effect from the disasterous event next door. Thank goodness the Burlington survived. See you again no doubt.

We had a wonderful Christmas at the Burlington Eastbourne. We did a Shearings self-drive parking was brilliant behind the hotel.

All staff were brilliant from reception, bar staff, our waitress, and cleaning staff, everyone was so polite, helpful, and made our stay extra special.

The food was really good, if you were a large eater than maybe the portions were small, they were ideal for us, but I saw others request extras and they were always very accommodating.

The bar prices were good, the entertainment was not to our taste, but as everyone else was enjoying it, and it was our choice not to join in.

The hotel was very hot in places, but we understand that it was something they were trying to regulate.

Lots of the hotel had been refurbished due to the forced closure for weeks before our arrival, due to the hotel fire next door.

I will admit there was a musty smell in parts of the hotel but we understood they were drying out some rooms having water damage from the necessity of dousing the flames at the adjoining hotel. This did not ruin our stay.
Lots of people staying returned time after time and the staff treated them like long lost friends it was wonderful to see.

We will definitely be returning to this hotel and maybe even book next Christmas again.

Thank you to everyone at the Burlington Hotel.

Lovely staff, good food, great entertainment hotel brillantly situated by the pier, bandstand, beech and shopping centre. Next door to the hotel destroyed in the fire but everyone has worked very hard to get the hotel back up and running
We will be back next New Year!

Excellent value hotel, good food friendly staff. Marc Snow compere is the real reason we visit this particular hotel. He interacts with his audience in such a friendly relaxed manner.
Overall can't fault the Burlington, you certainly get what you pay for.
We try to visit 2 or 3 times a year, it never disappoints.
We'll be back soon.

Arrival/check-in:- Arrived with friends for the 3 Night New Years Break deal.
Pre-paid Carparking simple, check-in smooth, Standard Room clean but very basic & very dated. Only 1 antiquated lift for 4+ floors & a hotel full of OAP's.

Entertainment:- Function room does not lend itself for more than 30-40 people, other than that your sat in separate areas listening via a crackly speaker. Marky Mark the compare was jolly & amusing. One big issue we found was one "management" favoured regular family were allowed to reserve sitting in the Function Room? (don't give the excuse that one was disabled, because we noted that he walked when it suited him & there were plenty of other people with mobility issue's), everybody else it was a Texas Scramble to get thorough dinner ASAP or else you were sitting away from the "Entertainment", we never managed it. You were lucky if you could any seats.

The other big issue is being told sssssssh when ever they were playing Bingo, if the venue doesn't lend itself to this type entertainment why bother. The 1st night Cabaret Showtime vocalist was mediocre, New Years Eve night entertainment Pianist/singer I believe Ray Campbell, was alot better, The Piper was good but 2 hours too early. New Years Day "Show Time" with Comedian Ray Campbell was two fold rubbish, firstly because we couldn't hear clearly from sitting in the corridor / bar & secondly because he wasn't funny.

Meals:- evening meals were quite drawn out, with the few waiting staff run ragged, food was passable but nothing special. Breakfasts Buffet(s) had plenty of choice, but the hot food was piled up to high in the Baymarie's that most of it was luke warm.

Staff:- in general were really good very helpful & chatty.

Summary:- Value for money - doubtful, stay again, - no. If this is Shearing's standard won't be bothering in future.
