This discovery was published recently in the American Journal of Public Health. Researchers from the University of Warwick and the University of Queensland analysed the diets of over 12,000 people over 2 years and found that the well-being improvements of eating up to 8 portions of fruit and vegetables a day were evident very quickly – more quickly than physical health benefits. The researchers found that happiness increased with every extra portion of fruit and vegetables eaten daily.

One of the researchers, Dr Redzo Mujcic from the University of Queensland said, "Perhaps our results will be more effective than traditional messages in convincing people to have a healthy diet. There is a psychological payoff now from fruit and vegetables - not just a lower health risk decades later."
