There are embranes in green leafy vegetables called thylakoids and scientists at Lund University in Sweden have found that an extract of these membranes reduced food cravings by 95% and boosted weight-loss by 43%.

The 3 month study involved 38 overweight women who all craved “unhealthy” foods such as sugar and refined carbohydrates.  Half were given a thylakoid drink before breakfast and the other half a placebo.  Both groups were instructed to eat a balanced, 3 meal per day diet, and not try any other weight-loss method during that period.

The control group lost an average of 3.5kg, and the thylakoid group, 5kg.  However, the thylakoid group found it easier to stick to 3 meals per day and didn’t experience any cravings.

Supplementing your diet with fresh vegetable juices make from kale, spinach and watercress is a great way to put this into practice. The vegetables can be mixed with carrot, celery, fennel, cuecumber, ginger or beetroot and small amounts of fruit such as apple, lemon, blueberries to  make them tastier.
