Apples are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and contain only 95 calories each. Each apple also contains about 4 grams of pectin, a soluble fibre that forms a gelatine-like consistency when added to water. This helps food move more quickly through the intestines.  As well as aiding intestinal motility, it has also been found to lower cholesterol. In addition stewed apple is easy to digest and can calm an upset stomach.

Many other fruit and vegetables also have cleansing and detoxification properties, helping to remove toxic build-up for the liver, colon, skin and other organs of detoxification.
