So what will you do to celebrate New Years Eve, the very last hours until Big Ben will sound bringing in the New Year? Will you party? There are many exceptional venues that are waiting to help you enjoy dinner or drinks, dancing etc and maybe head into town to follow the countdown?

Have you made New Year’s resolutions? Maybe, in a quiet moment one could think of one or two. Live healthier, get fitter, get involved in something to broaden the mind or help society? Look for a new job, a change of career, recycle more and be more aware? This is a fine time to work on ones priorities.

For many of us New Years Eve is still a family time when we gather in our homes and party safely in the warmth and where we can have a ‘wee dram’, or two, to welcome in the New Year without worrying about drinking and driving.

The business community has experienced many ups and downs, with major business closures and the tough trading times that have tried us very hard. We have also seen some outstanding examples of entrepreneurial innovation with small producers and retailers et al creating excellent local produce, amazing quality venues, restaurants and eateries including street food and wholesome niche products that are exciting to see and even better to try.

New Year is about drawing a line under all that is past, out with the old and in with the new. The New Year allows us to start afresh, Spring will soon be with us, meanwhile the planning and execution of those plans can begin. New business ideas, old ideas revisited and refreshed. Horticulturists are doing just that, the bedding plants that we will buy in the next few weeks are growing now. At the same time folks across the UK are planning Summer holidays, our friends in the hospitality industry are already thinking about preparing for summer tourism.

We can’t wait for the New Year and all the opportunities it will bring!

We hope you all have a wonderful New Years Eve, eat drink and be merry.

Happy New Year to all, May 2020 be all  that you hope for!

The Best of Taunton and Bridgwater.
