It's great to hear that Somerset County Council have been praised for the service it provides to local people. Independent inspectors from the audit commission looked at the services provided.
They found that Somerset was amongst the best in the country for recycling with 50% of waste recycled or composted. The coucil have also been working to reduce their carbon footprint with coucil buildings and schools using some of their energy from renewable resources.
The council were also praised for an "excellent contribution to improving health and wellbeing in Somerset" The 94 Active Living Centres for people over 50 were particularly praised. Services to young people and children were also recognised as was the support to local people and businesses in helping them cope with the recession.
I think the council deserve a big thumbs up for their hard work, in helping to make our county a great place to live.
