Running a Family Business:  What it means to start out on your own.  Plumbers Pollard & Sons who started their own business during Lockdown talk about how they started up and what their business offers.

Starting a business is always a challenge, and starting one in Lockdown must have seemed like lunacy, but Damian Pollard, MD of Pollard & Sons said it made perfect sense.  After working for a large part of his life in the Royal Signals for HM Forces, Damian had made the transition back to Civvy Street as a part of another plumbing and heating firm.  Working and qualifying in several disciplines related to the trade for them for several years, he felt very strongly that he wanted to set up his own firm.  There he could set his own quality control standards, set his own levels of customer service and to train and employ his own son Ciaran.  Establishing Pollard & Sons in 2021 he has done exactly that.  Ciaran is now a Third Year Apprentice and working for the firm, another fully qualified plumber joined in January this year, and Damian now has his own first Apprentice: Max.  Job done, you might say.  Lockdown was the perfect time to set up, we could see a need for a service that was smart, efficient and in a face to face trade, personable and friendly.  People needed that reassurance during those unusual times and we prefer a customer friendly approach, making clients feel at ease right away.
