The event will give people the latest facts and advice about Taunton’s regeneration, the chance to meet the people responsible and the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about how the different elements of the regeneration will affect you and where you live. The event, sponsored by house-builders Crest Nicholson, is free and runs from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm – people are welcome to drop in at any time throughout the day. Presentations will include updates from the Project Taunton team, Somerset Wildlife Trust and developers St Modwen who have delivered the first commercial building at Firepool. Taunton Town Centre Company, Taunton Deane Borough Council’s economic development and regeneration team, the Museum of Somerset and The Brewhouse will be among the organisations with trade stands on the day. Previous Open Days hosted by Project Taunton have been well attended with visitors keen to hear the latest on regeneration plans direct from the delivery team. Since the last Open Day, the new HQ for Viridor has been completed at Firepool, Goodland Gardens has been improved, new signs have gone up in the town centre, High Street improvements have got under way with the first phase successfully completed and the Third Way road has opened. The next big regeneration milestone will be the completion of Castle Green, a high quality open space in the heart of the town where a host of events is planned throughout the autumn in the run-up to Christmas. Ian Franklin, of Project Taunton, said: “The Open Day is a great chance for people to hear at first hand about Taunton’s regeneration, to ask questions and get answers.”
