No Christmas lights for Taunton

Any hopes of Christmas lights in Taunton Town centre seem to have been dashed this week as Taunton Deane Borough Council say "is not responsible for Christmas lights and has no budget for them.". Local business owners have also decided to opt out of providing any further funds to help add a little more Christmas spirit to the town, leaving only the tree outside of the Market House and the tree’s in Hammet Street as our only hope of Christmas sparkle in the town. Taunton as the county town of Somerset and major investment taking place with new homes and the re-development of the market to name a couple projects, surely to attract more visitors into the town over the festive period would be a no-brainer, OK there may be more pressing issues locally but with all the doom and gloom all around let’s encourage more people and business’s into the town this Christmas as it can only help local traders build for 2013, I for one have to agree with local councilor Jefferson Horsley who says it is a "PR disaster." There was a song a few years ago called “Things can only get better” Let’s wait and see…….
