The managing Director of a Somerset garden centre has recently (February, 2014) taken over as the chair for the Garden Centre Associations (GCA) Wales and West Region.

Mike Lind, who is the Managing Director of Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield near Taunton, will represent the GCAs member garden centres in the region. Mike said: The garden centre industry enriches the lives of many people across all age groups, sectors and demographics.

There is a wealth of knowledge that is shared between GCA garden centre members in each geographical region. It will be my duty to co-ordinate and facilitate the exchange of best practice and ideas in the region to ensure that respective members can continue to provide the best products and experiences for their customers.Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre was launched in 1982 and is now one of Somersetâs leading independent, family-run garden centres.

The business was founded by David and Luella Bellmen and the whole family remain very much involved in the running of the garden centre. Mike, who is David and Luellas son-in-law, took over as Managing Director in 2012. Mike takes on the GCA position from Mike Burks, who runs The Gardens Group in Somerset and Dorset.

The GCA represents nearly 200 garden centres nationwide. Through sharing information and its inspection programme the GCA helps members to achieve high standards in customer service, plant quality and reliability.
