Cushion cover knitting classes at garden centre

WHO/WHAT: PEOPLE from Somerset with an interest in knitting are invited to a workshop at a garden centre in the county this Saturday (June 9, 2012).

WHERE/WHEN: The ‘How to make a Cushion Cover’ class takes place on Saturday, June 9 from 2pm until 4.30pm in the Craft Centre at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre, which is located just off the A38 at Monkton Heathfield between Bridgwater and Taunton.

HOW/WHY: Miranda McPherson, Craft Centre Supervisor, explained: “We host the classes on a monthly basis for anyone who would like to learn how to knit covers for their cushions and add a personal touch to their homes. The club takes place on the second Saturday of every month.

“The classes will focus on the colour and the texture of the cover. People can choose several unusual and simple ways of including these in their knitting.

“During the classes, people will be shown how to use several stitching techniques, including bobble, brick, cable, geometric and sea flower.

“Varied lengths of King Cole merino wool and a 12 inch cushion pad needed for the class will be provided.”

The How to make a Cushion Cover classes cost £20 each and include tea or coffee and biscuits.

Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The award-winning, independent family-run garden centre was launched in 1982 and is run by the Bellman family with the help of nearly 100 staff. Some have been with the business for more than 25 years.
