Introducing Charron Pugsley-Hill: Artist, Environmentalist, and Vibrant Voice of the Somerset Levels
We are thrilled to welcome Charron Pugsley-Hill, a passionate artist and environmentalist, to our local creative landscape. Known for her emotionally resonant, large-scale acrylic-on-canvas works, Charron’s art captures not only the beauty of nature but the powerful stories woven through it. Bold, colourful, and unapologetically expressive, her paintings are instantly recognisable and immensely likeable—just like the artist herself.
A Unique Blend of Art and Activism
Charron's journey as an artist is rooted in a deep connection with the natural world. Her work often explores environmental themes with an intuitive and spiritual approach, giving a voice to nature in a way that is both accessible and profound. Her canvases, often bursting with vibrant colour and symbolism, invite viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the world around them.
Over the years, she has built a reputation not only for her artistic talent but for her ability to use creativity as a vehicle for environmental awareness and personal healing. It’s no surprise that her work resonates across audiences and has featured in a variety of public and private collections across the UK.
Artist in Residence: A Deepening of Place and Purpose
Charron held a prestigious Artist in Residence role at Lyvedon, Northamptonshire, a beautiful property held by the National Trust. A position that allowed her to delve deeper into the landscapes and communities she so passionately interprets through paint. This residency has become a meaningful chapter in her career, enabling her to engage with new surroundings while continuing to evolve her artistic language. Her residency reflects not just a role, but a relationship with place—a recurring theme in her work.
New Beginnings in the Somerset Levels
Recently, Charron made a heartfelt move to the Somerset Levels, an area that immediately felt like home. And it turns out there’s more than just emotion behind that sense of belonging: through a journey into her ancestry, Charron discovered familial roots in Somerset. This blend of past and present, heritage and exploration, now informs her creative practice in beautiful and unexpected ways.
The Levels—with their hauntingly flat landscapes, watery horizons, and rich ecological diversity—provide a perfect backdrop for her evolving body of work. Whether she's capturing the shifting moods of the moors or the hidden lives of its wildlife, Charron paints from a place of deep respect and resonance.
A Bright Future Ahead
As she settles into her new home and continues her art, we can’t wait to see what emerges next from Charron's studio. Her infectious energy, compassionate outlook, and creative bravery make her not only a standout artist but a vital voice in the conversation about our environment and our place within it.
