How to pass your driving test first time

Passing your driving test first time is something many learner drivers hope to achieve, but there’s no magic shortcut. The key is building your confidence, developing good driving habits and being properly prepared before test day.

Take enough driving lessons

Everyone learns at a different pace, so don’t compare the number of lessons you’ve had with friends or family. A good driving instructor will help you identify areas that need more practice and make sure you’re becoming a safe, independent driver rather than simply teaching you how to pass a test.

Practise between lessons

If you have access to a suitable car and an experienced driver, additional practice can make a big difference. Practise different roads, junctions, parking manoeuvres, roundabouts and dual carriageways so that you feel comfortable in a variety of situations.

Know your driving test routines

Understanding what to expect can help reduce nerves. Make sure you’re comfortable with the ‘show me, tell me’ questions, independent driving and the manoeuvres you may be asked to complete.

Don’t rush your test

You don’t need to book your test simply because you’ve reached a certain number of lessons. Your instructor should be able to give you an honest assessment of whether your driving is at test standard.

At Learn With Vern, learner drivers in Bridgwater can develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to become safe drivers and work towards passing their driving test.
