This independent, family-run bistro café on Weavers Lane is on the hunt for an experienced Relief Chef to join their small kitchen team - covering brunch, lunch, à la carte dining, seasonal specials, private functions and their established outside catering business.
Hours: Typically 1-2 days a week, plus around four pre-arranged weeks of Head Chef holiday cover each year
Pay: £15.00-£18.00 per hour, depending on experience
Extras: Additional shifts available through outside catering, weddings, evening functions, busy periods and occasional sickness cover
It's a genuinely varied role. Some weeks you'll be supporting the existing team; during Head Chef cover, you'll be running the show - organising prep, keeping standards high, managing stock, and keeping food safety and allergen records in order. So they're looking for someone who's comfortable taking real ownership of a service, not just working alongside a senior chef.
Ideally you'll have experience at Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, Head Chef or equivalent level, be confident running a kitchen independently, and work calmly under pressure. Reliability and good communication with both kitchen and front-of-house teams matter just as much as the cooking. A driving licence and access to transport would help too, particularly for outside catering work.
Established freelance or self-employed relief chefs are also welcome to get in touch - any arrangement would need to reflect a genuine self-employed working relationship, and can be discussed separately.
