Week 1, Part 2 of  The I Love To Buy Local Campaign in and Around Sudbury

This month marks my 5th year in business, as owner of thebestof Sudbury; a business that promotes and shouts about all the brilliant businesses and events that take place in and around Sudbury and surrounding villages.

To celebrate my Business Birthday, rather than sitting in my office, scoffing cake, I thought I’d share some of birthday love and try and get to see as many local businesses and organisations as possible, give them a I Love To Buy Local sticker for their shop, office or car and take a photo to promote on social media at the end of the day.

Here are the wonderful people and businesses I met in the second part of the week

Here’s a bit more about them….

Day 3:

I was mainly out and about in Sudbury on Day 3. First stop was Torque Bikes

Torque Bikes

Torque Bikes has been mending and building bikes for local cyclists for over 7 years, but 5 years ago they moved to their larger premises in Ballingdon. Still building and fixing bikes, they also sell everything related to your cycling needs, including electric bikes. You can find out more visiting their website. They have a YouTube channel here

Duck in Boots

There are some VERY exciting plans afoot for Sarah at Duck in Boots as they’re moving later this year. As well as selling unique products from local artisans, Duck in Boots can provide you with cake and coffee whilst you take part in their many wonderful workshops; from making pasta to photography or slim workshops for the kids to Harry Potter inspired craft parties. Duck in Boots was our runner up in the Business of The Year Awards.

Jo Burnett Coaching

Jo has recently moved to the area and runs an NLP coaching business, specialising in habit change. As a former English teacher and education professional, she also works with young people helping them deal with stress. Jo also runs GoGetSober, a website that offers advice, help and support to those wanting to quit drinking. Take a look here

Market Hill Photography

Joe and his wife Natalie will be celebrating 9 years in business this month. They moved to Market Hill from North Street a couple of years ago and offer professional photography services, including family portraits and wedding photography. They also can take your photo for your passport to the exact specifications. They can also help with your photography printing from phones and tablets. Their website is here

As well delivering beautiful flowers to lucky recipients, creating stunning creations for weddings and funerals, Juniper, owned by Anne, also runs flower arranging classes and sells amazing vintage clothes and organises vintage shows. Rafi’s SpiceBox

Rafi Fernandez first opened the doors to her first shop in Sudbury in 1989 and broke the mould in Indian cuisine. Creating delicious curry packs, enabled us to cook restaurant quality curry at home. Now people from all over the world can enjoy a Rafi’s Curry. Although Rafi sadly passed away 5 years ago, her legacy lives on not just in Sudbury but in York, Harrogate, Leeds and Newcastle as well as online

Modifier Clothing

Matt Francis first opened Black Hanger Clothing on North Street in Sudbury in 2017 and a few months ago rebranded as Modifier Clothing to relect their growing range of  discount brands and the Mod clothing. Do pop in and say hi to Matt and his lifesize cardboard cut out of Liam Gallagher. Matt’s also running the London Marathon this year, raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust. If you fancy donating a few pennies, you can donate here

The Brewery Tap, Sudbury

The Brewery Tap, on East Street in Sudbury, host monthly comedy nights with Suffolk Punch Comedy. It’s free to attend, but they do ask donations to Prostate Cancer

Day 4

Nicky wants to help businesses showcase their staff’s personalities and expertise via photography that can be showcased on social media, PR and on the business’s website. Nicky as been doing all the photographic work for thebestof Sudbury since its launch 5 years ago and photographed many of the local businesses

Luxstone Stonemasons

Did you know the official Stonemasons for Highgate Cemetary is based right here in Sudbury? Well they are! Neil Luxstone is an experienced and amazing stone carver designing and carving amazing headstones,  personal commissions and stunning creations made from stone. Some of the work you might recognise, is the drinking trough outside St Peters to commemorate Sudbury’s link with Dodie Smith’s book, 101 Dalmations. He also runs courses on how to carve stone. These are held both in London and in Sudbury. Want to find out a bit more about Luxstone? Click here. Neil is also in local band The CCJs

Day 5

As I spent most of Friday at Thomas Gainsborough School taking part in their Mock Interview day, I only managed a couple of Buy Local Sticker love

Hunnaball Funeral Group

Sarah Waterson is Hunnaball Funeral Group’s Community Manager and works with the Sudbury branch, as well as their other bases in Colchester and Ipswich.

Sue Ayres, Mayor of Sudbury

Sue is our wonderful mayor and was taking time out to  interview some of the students, before she had to rush back to her mayor duties.

If you know a business, or indeed if you are business, charity or society that would like a sticker, just get in touch!

Thank you to all the businesses and individuals that got involved this week. There are so many great companies and inspiring people in our community that it makes me very proud to do what I do.
