Record festive season for Shrewsbury based caravan dealership

The magic of Christmas rubbed off on a Shrewsbury caravan, motorhome and campervan dealership which welcomed a record number of children to its Santa’s grotto in December.

Between November 26 and December 24, more than 1,200 children gave their Christmas present wish lists to Santa at Salop Leisure’s Emstrey headquarters – 15 per cent up on 2015. The company also sold 850 Christmas trees during the festive season, double the number sold the previous year.

The business boom continued between Christmas and New Year, as sales of touring caravans and motorhomes over the period were the best for a decade.

“The fact that we were very busy between Christmas and the New Year is an indication that more people are intending to holiday on in caravans and motorhomes this year,” said Tony Bywater, Salop Leisure’s chairman. “Many of the customers said they were put off from holidaying abroad by the higher costs associated with the currency exchange rate and the threat of international terrorism.

“The build up to Christmas was the best we have ever experienced. Many caravan dealerships close over the festive season, but we have always opened to provide a service to our customers and we were rewarded with the best sales for a decade for this time of year.”
