The Olympic Torch comes to Salford

As the 2012 games draw ever closer, the Olympic torch is en route to Salford, and will make its way through the city this weekend. Carried for around 8,000 miles by 8,000 well-deserving local people and celebs, the torch is something the people of the UK have come out to see in their thousands. With a turnout of 25,000 in Bolton a couple of weeks ago, nothing less is expected in Salford.

With the likes of MediaCityUK creating an ever-growing profile for Salford, there is a real buzz around the arrival of the Olympic relay, and like the Queen’s visit to the city earlier this year, this historic event will unite all the locals as they welcome the torch. The flame will start out by the BBC’s headquarters at around 6am on Sunday morning, so get up early to catch it! It will make its way around MediaCityUK, the Quays and past the Imperial War Museum, before moving on to the Trafford area and around Old Trafford.

Along with the Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics coming to the UK certainly have made this summer a patriotic one, so join your fellow Salfordians this weekend to celebrate London 2012!
