The future looks bright for Salford

Earlier this month, Ian Stewart, a former MP of Eccles, clinched the title as Salford’s first elected mayor, winning in the end with over 50% of the vote. Stewart was the Labour candidate for the mayoral role, and has proved once again that the Labour party is a prominent favourite in Salford.

Our new mayor seems to be a man of the people, and believes the most important thing is giving the community a voice. He also has plans to improve the employment situation in Salford, by implementing new education and employability schemes.

After choosing his cabinet a couple of weeks ago, Stewart now believes they are on track to building a better future for Salford and its community. He is responsible for any investments and schemes for regeneration, and claims he will endeavour to bring about real change for the city, both economically and otherwise.

Mr Stewart also supports protest against spending cuts, and has said he will help local employers and areas most affected by the changes. He is hoping to learn from previous experiences and pitfalls, and work alongside alternative political parties to provide the best possible leadership for Salford.

Along with Ian Stewart’s plans, and regeneration creating a new profile for the city, there looks to be a bright future for Salford.
