Salford, Home of the Reds

Over the past few years Salford has really flourished, welcoming new architectural arrivals all over the city, and really highlighting its potential for the years to come. On the sports side of things, Salford’s rugby team Salford City Reds left the beloved Willows ground in September of last year, leaving behind more than 100 years of rugby history.

From this they moved to their new home, the Salford City Stadium in Eccles, an impressive modern build costing around £16 million to develop and construct. The Reds’ new stadium has the capacity to hold much more than the Willows, and hosts a whole range of new facilities, as well as being available for local or business hire. It is hoped that this high profile new build will bring significant benefits to the city of Salford, both socially and economically. While my family and I have enjoyed many happy years at the Willows, we can’t deny that this move will be good for the club and its future.

Last month it was also confirmed that Sale Sharks will have their home at the Salford City Stadium, sharing fixtures with the Reds. While it may not feel like the ideal situation, having two competing teams share a stadium, in the long run this amalgamation may further help Salford’s economic situation by bringing in both more sports fans and the buzz surrounding two rugby teams.

Why not experience the atmosphere of the Reds’ new stadium for yourself and head to the Salford vs. Catalan game next week (1st June)? Discounts are available for students and seniors!
