New to Salford?

Will you be new to Salford University in September, or just planning activities for the long summer break? Here’s a few suggestions of how best to appreciate the wealth of culture that the city has to offer! While it is an immediate neighbour of Manchester, an internationally renowned and culturally diverse city, Salford has a rich heritage of its own, and an abundance of activities to be enjoyed by all.

If you’re a lover of art or history, or just need to entertain the kids for a few hours, why not head over to Salford Museum and Art Gallery, also home to Lark Hill Place. Here you can appreciate both classical and contemporary art, dress up as a Victorian, or just get a flavour of some Salfordian History!

The past and present can also be enjoyed down at Salford Quays, home to the new futuristic BBC hub MediaCityUK. Here you can also find the Lowry Centre for shopping, and the Lowry Gallery and Theatre, showcasing the latest productions as well as the best of Salford’s most well known artist, alongside various changing exhibitions to suit all tastes!

Just across the bridge is also home to the Imperial War Museum North, offering several permanent and temporary exhibitions for all you need to know about local and international military history, as well as the opportunity to trace family and friends that fought in the war!

Entry to all of these places is free, and you just might learn something about Salford that you didn’t know before!
