Yet another Oswestry Food and Drink Festival over for another year, but what a festival! The only year in seven we didn’t get rain, in fact we were showered with sunshine!
There was definitely a refreshingly laid back theme this year – more delicious street food and lashings of lemonade to quench the thirst when it got really hot, together with summery cocktails and cooling ice creams.
The streets were alive with music and laughter, the smells of chorizo risotto, tandoori chicken Moroccan spicy lamb and frying sausages fused into a heady, foody heavenly mass.
The soundtrack to the weekend was a cool mix of laid back jazz from The Jazz Syndicate, impromptu a capella (Jools and Kate – aka the Test Match Specials) and various young buskers, with a fantastic Sunday which saw loads of people enjoying the Peoples Vinyl Collective’s laid back Reggae in the Park.
What makes all the hard work in putting on the festival worthwhile, is seeing the streets thronging with people of all ages taking life that little bit easier, smiling and chatting and just enjoying the moment. We forget, in our daily clock driven lives that the Dolce Vita – the sweet life – is about taking time to enjoy our lives, using all our senses.
Highlights for me tastewise -the Socca with grilled vegetables from Da Vinci’s and a glass of chilled Commonwood White Wine; a reviving perfumed Summerberry Cocktail from Monkhide Wines, and visually – the great paella pans of Su Casa bubbling away, the awe-inspiring stall of artisan bread from Swift’s Bakery and (of course) the various delicious cake stalls – all deeply, deeply lovely.
Behind the success of the festival is a group of people ready to help at the drop of a hat: Tony (Traffic Meister) , Jools and Kate (womaning the festival stall with aplomb and a song) and especially Dave Clough – Oswestry Markets Manager and his frankly fantastic team – Anthony, Charlie, Mike and Gordon, a huge thank you for all your hard work!

Charmed to my boots by Oswestry and the Welsh Marches. I happily do my best to support the fantastic independent shops and businesses in the area through The Best of Oswestry.
