Oswestry Cheese of the Month from Radford’s Fine Foods -  April

By George, its gorgeous!  Words that should be evoked by a taste of superb Cheddar.

Here at Radfords Fine Foods, we love all our cheeses, but a corner of our heart is for ever English and specifically Cheddarish.   Not your cheap plastic cheddars but the strong, mature, and every so attractive classics of this lovely land.

What makes a fine cheddar? Its age, how its created, matured and stored and, what you serve it with.

We sell a cracking variety of cheddars from around the country and are happy for your to taste before you choose your grand fromage,  including Westcombe Farmhouse , Black Bomber, True Grit Horlicks Extra Mature and the more local Nantwich Extra Mature.

Cheddar is at its best at cool room temperature (not sweating in its plastic pack) and sharing space on your plate with foods that will bring out that slight savoury salty tang: a little side of tangy homemade chutney, a crisp pickle, perhaps an apple or pear and nothing more than a fresh glass of water or cooling glass of LPA to wash it down.  It is even better tasted in the warmth of an afternoon sun, whether on a day by the sea, or in the delights of your own garden.

Why not celebrate the arrival of Spring, St George’s Day and The Bard’s birthday with a picnic over the  holidays?

Pop up to see us and grab a selection of good cheeses,  perhaps  a variety of the sourdough or other artisan breads we sell, and maybe a few yummy pies.

Stop off at Stonehouse Brewery and pick up some light beers and you’ve got yourself sorted for a typically English picnic (in which case – don’t forget the brolly along with the picnic rug).
